I wonder if those design ideas from the concept macaque mech went into 71772: The Crystal King instead.

4 legs, 2 arms, and a color scheme not too far off.

We missed out on a pink pirate ship mech? ☹

I finished building the Heavenly Realms set today! Very impressive set, extremely well designed.

I'm tempted to try to come up with a small expansion of sorts to it (even if it doesn't connect directly) with the heavenly stables Monkey King was assigned to before he began his "havoc in heaven".

That'd be awesome! Post pics!!  :moar:

A Gautama Buddha's Vulture Peak, or Bodhisattva Guanyin's Heavenly Realm MOC would complement the set well too, since Sun Wukong was constantly visiting both locations on his cloud in the novel

Is Monkie Kid having another wave next year?

Yep, it was leaked back last year with the instructions portal. It is gonna be continuing as it was also confirmed by set designers, it’s just a shame the sets are so hard to get a hold of. I don’t like buying from Lego.com because the delivery’s slow, sets are pricy at full price and the GWP aren’t usually good enough.

some sets are on sale currently so if you want to get them you can, but my budget doesn’t permit it now. Mei’s car, the lion disco battle and the drone copter are on sale now.

Sadly no sales in germany, but I ordered the heavenly realms on monday with double vip points and the two GWPs - I already own one Castaway GWP, but now I can sell the second copy to get some sort of "cashback" for the MK Set (and no, I'm not counting myself to the sort of people who demand very high prices for GWP Sets, I'm happy when I maybe get like 17€ which will mean 10% of the price of the MK Set).

Having just finished a marathon build of both Flower Fruit Mountain & Heavenly Realms....I really hope we get more sets like them. Not only are they great builds with fantastic minifigs, the lore behind them makes me curious & now I need to track down the book(s).

Also got Dragon of the East & the namesake minifg has a neat misprint, one side of his crown isn’t painted gold.

Intriguing that they still haven’t fixed that misprint, I wonder now if it’s actually part of the design, although I don’t see why. This has been happening since the sets release.

Oh really? The instructions show it as two gold painted parts. So it must’ve been a whole batch of the part...which makes it even worse. Here I thought I had something special.  I asked for a replacement,...we’ll see.

Yeah this misprint has been in production since the first batch, which can mean a couple of things. Either the set isn't selling well and they are still making their way through the first production wave, this issue is too hard or cant be fixed, or the team are just being lazy and not bothering to fix it. Can you update us when you get the replacement and see if its any different? You can look at bricksbyminds video review of the set and it still has the misprint I think.

Definitely will. I checked out 4 reviews on YouTube(the first four that showed up) & only 1 had the misprint.

I looked up my Dragon of the East - no Misprint.

As I`m writing, I look at my nearly finished Heavenly Realms - three Bags to go, but I have to continue tomorrow. I`m already excited. :D

I wonder when we'll see leaks of the 2023 MK sets?

I might be misremembering, but I feel like MK hasn't had a lot of leaks so far. The whole first wave got leaked a week or two before the official reveal, but that's the only major leak for the series that I can remember.

Yeah first wave got put up on a Malaysian toy store website a month in advance and Lego went on a complete purge for a while, since then it’s been all quiet. We get set numbers some waves but generally as it’s a mainly Lego store exclusive (in the west at least) we know nothing until the Chinese international show that happens around this time of the year where they reveal the Chinese New Year sets and a monkie kid set. They showed off the drone copter 2 years ago and the moon rocket last year, so fingers crossed we get some great builds this year. It really is a bummer and the main reason I don’t get MK sets that they’re exclusive to Lego.com, I just can’t be bothered to go through the whole process. I’d have a lot more interest if I could just walk into a store and pick some up.

On a side note, I have just finished my rewatch of season 3 and I stand by my original feelings, it is by far the best season, although I’d say out of the 3 specials it has the worst special (special was amazing, but the others outshine it). The sets for this wave are amazing though and I’m still yet to get any, although I should be able to get the city of lanterns by the end of the year. The one thing I want now is a soundtrack release, the music is beautiful and it’s a real shame we haven’t had any music released yet. I’ve emailed flying bark productions (the creators) and had no reply. The masters of brickjitzu YouTube channel seems to have gotten its hands on some of the soundtrack as backing tracks in recent vids, I’d love to know how they got that.

Well as predicted we have our first info from brick clicker, many thanks for that! 5 sets coming, one of which should be revealed at the Chinese expo event happening on the 5th of November with the Chinese New Year sets. Sets are being retired like the HQ and monkey mech (which I still need to pick up, hopefully on sale on Black Friday) so maybe a new HQ set, or maybe a static base could be more interesting. Apparently it’s now an evergreen theme so there shouldn’t be an end for monkie kid, which I’m happy about. As we haven’t had any new villains in the current sets, I’m gonna guess that the set revealed will give us our first look at the tone of the series plus the enemy faction, I’m excited for that. One thing I’d like to see is maybe a static base for the crew, so far all the bases have been mobile, (not counting FFM) so a static base could be cool. Maybe a shipping yard, if they’re keeping in theme with containers (I absolutely love the container premise).

A static base could be interesting! I've also thought that the container theming of a lot of their vehicles could make a freight train work as an interesting mobile base.

Personally a part of me hopes that now that the main White Bone Demon "arc" is complete, we might get some assorted demons before focus shifts entirely to a new major faction. I'd still love to get characters like the Scorpion Demon and Goldfish Demon in sets, but we haven't really gotten many minor villains unconnected to the main enemy faction since Yin, Jin, and Spider Queen back in 2020. And there are so many interesting potential "villains" in Journey to the West, so it'd be nice to get more than just one of them and their underlings.

Another thing I don't think I'd mind getting would be a big castle for the Iron Bull Family. Red Son is one of the most popular characters from what I've seen on Twitter, so if he and his family are going to continue to be recurring characters in the story, it'd certainly be nice for them to appear in a new set now that the 2020 sets are all retired.

Agreed, one of the biggest misses with the show so far is the fact that all the characters (aside from season 3 MK) usually keep the same clothing, which means that if most of the characters where introduced in season 1, their set counterparts are only in season 1 sets. Take red son, as you mentioned, he has kept the same outfit since season 1 but he has popped up in other newer sets such as the dronecopter sporting some sort of fire exosuit looking build. Luckily he is still available in the cloud jet, but other figures such as Tang and Mei have stuck to roughly the same print/outfit.

A freight train would be interesting but it would also mean that the team would be restricted to just tracks, which may be interesting, it may not be. I don’t know how to feel about that. Apart from that though, there’s not many other ways I can think off to get the containers in. We’ve done truck, we’ve done drone (maybe a sky crane helicopter? It’s a little to similar to the drone though) and we’ve done a container ship. A train or shipping yard is really the only thing I can come up with now. Unless the designers figure out some wild vehicle like the tall container stacker trucks that pick containers up in the centre, that would be very cool and intriguing to see how they pull that off. Either way, we will probably see the flagship set at the Chinese Expo, so there’s a good chance it will be a new base or something.

As for what’s next, the show ended on a happy note but teased something that looks like a stone or wood tablet laying on the ground, that flips  over and reveals a bunch of symbols. Not entirely sure what that could mean, but it looks like it’s something to do with LBD as it’s got the same colours.

Considering Sandy's Speedboat was used on land in the Spider Queen Episode. I doubt train tracks would stop them from going anywhere.

Sandy can just mod the train to be all terrain.

Road train! Pump enough air in the tires and maybe it will be water adventure friendly!

I am interested to see how they would work a train into the mix. Maybe their next enemy is a train pirate demon, who robs passing freight trains.....

Came today with two gold painted crown bits.

Does anyone own the dronecopter and is willing to provide pictures of what it looks like with out the landing legs? I’m curious about what it looks like as I like it’s look in the show but the set version feels underwhelming, and I’m not a fan of the spindly legs under it. Maybe I can mod it to have the supports under the wings.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the larger monkie kid sets currently available? Drone copter is on my radar along with the city of lanterns and TEA truck, but I’d like to know what general thoughts on the other sets are. I’d like to get tang and macaque, sadly they don’t come in a set together. I own the bone demon and Team HQ, and the heavenly realms doesn’t really interest me. I know FFM is highly recommend but Im half and half on it. I’m hoping the set that’s revealed at the Chinese expo tomorrow peaks my interest, maybe something container related as I love the concept, the team HQ did it really well. Hopefully some sets go on sale for Black Friday.

Can't get pictures right now as it's put away, but to me the legs look fine (they are located under the wings and fairly sturdy). Removing them and adding more subtle supports under the main body might be possible, but without supports underneath the wings might not bear the weight well and the containers wouldn't necessarily have room to attach properly.

Regarding currently available sets, there are few that I WOULDN'T recommend (the designs in this theme are consistently strong). Tang's classic design is only available so far in the Dronecopter, so if you want that version of him (which is IMO the best), that's another point in its favor. City of Lanterns is so good that I bought two copies to double it in size. Flower Fruit Mountain and Heavenly Realms are both great, but definitely more display-oriented than your typical Monkie Kid set.

Apart from the sets you mention, the Spider Queen's Arachnoid Base is super-cool and reminds me of Exo-Force at its absolute best. The Monkey King Warrior Mech is a little less appealing figure-wise than it was back before Monkey King himself was as widely available, but the mech is still incredibly cool and the noodle shop side build is fantastic. Monkie Kid's Galactic Explorer is one of my favorite spaceship sets in recent years, with a design that looks great either vertically or horizontally (plus spacesuits for all the main cast members save Pigsy, who appears separately in the Chang'e set). Nezha's Fire Ring has two cool vehicles plus Macaque and Nezha, even if it's a little less outstanding than the others I've mentioned IMO (which might be just my preference toward vehicles with roomy interiors over a big and impressive set that nonetheless only seats one per vehicle).
