So there's a new 63 page book available on S@H titled "50 Years of the Lego Brick".

It includes a copy of the patent from 1958, reprints of 1963 and 1969 System catalogues, six red 2 x 4 bricks, golden brick stickers.

Looks intresting and is probably a perfect conversationstarter. "Oh I remember how fun I had with LEGO as a kid...". One complaint though is that I would have preffered real golden bricks, even if it's only one, instead of golden brick stickers and six red bricks.

i bought this one at the event in Billund. it's not all that interesting, honestly... I guess it's nice to look through once in a while, but nothing more...

I want it, but the (German/English) catalog looks more interesting. Eventually, I will buy them both... But 30 EUR looks quite expensive... And the catalog costs 25 EUR, if I remember it well.

Is this thing different from the collector's catalog in the other thread?

Well, in the Collector's Catalogue you'll find every set LEGO has made the past 50 years (am I right?) and in this book you'll find:

* This book celebrates 50 years of the LEGO brick with history, fun facts and pictures!

* Includes 6 red LEGO bricks!

* Includes a copy of the patent for LEGO brick from 1958!

* Includes LEGO system catalog with promotional material from 1963!

* Includes a copy of the LEGO System 1969 catalog that features the electric LEGO railway!

* Includes LEGO gold brick stickers!

* 63 pages.

So: the catalogue is worth the money and not this I think.

I was thinking of writing a review of it once I receive mine in a week or so; that's it if anyone's interested.

The Collectors' Catalogue is just that what it says it is, a catalogue of all sets the past 50 years.

Freddie I would be intrested in a review, it looks intresting but I'd want to look at it before I buy one.

A review would be nice, but just pics are also okay. I can't see find any on brickshelf and I would like to SEE what's inside.

It isn't available in Belgium. Anyone know if it ever will be?

I also would like to hear more about what is inside...

Thanks much and God Bless,

Nathan

I'd also like it if someone did a review or took some pics of the inside. I'm curious as to what exactly is in there at just 60+ pages. It's not something I'd put a special order in for but I might get it with something else from S@H.

Mirandir, I agree with you about the bricks - even the 50th anniversary gold brick key ring is a tan brick chromed gold rather than the type used in Town Plan :sceptic: .

Wait, isn't this exactly the same as that collector's catalog?

As stated above the collectors Catalogue is more of a set reference and this book is a summary, I think, of the LEGObricks history.

I've though of it like this:

product_im...1-4255134dt.jpg

Its a star wars collector archive book that contains 50 interactive, rare and some never-before-published memorabilia, including reproductions of Lucas's own handwritten script pages, flip-through catalogs, swag, posters, T-shirt transfers, tattoos, stickers, blueprints, production notes, animation cells and much more!

(copypaste from official site)

That's the basic idea of the 50 years of the lego brick book, just a collection of interesting memorabilia, that might apeal to enthusiasts who want a slice of lego history.

Personally, I'd get the Collector's Catalog instead of this.

I swear, we Americans get nothing. You Europeans got the Castle sets first, and now this! I envy you all!

You know that we Europeans can say exactly the same about you Americans. ;)

Not only do you get some sets long before we do. You also get sets that we won't get at all(!) and to add to that you get your LEGO much cheaper than we do.
