xwingyoda Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Hummmmmm, I don't really know what to think about those !!!! Its Mini scale on a huge scale *wacko* It would be interesting to have as parts sets but I am like you Jay, I feel that the price will be just OUCH !!!!! Quote
eDeevo Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Those all look GREAT! Although I agree, the prices may be a bit steep considering the piece count... hopefully not though, as I know my daughter would love to get those... :-D Life is Good. Quote
SuvieD Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 My thought is that they will cost $10-15, $20-30, $40-60. Reason being, they are basic parts meaning no minifigs, no weapons, no new molds, no new colors, no stickers, no prints, no instructions (instructions are online), no jumbo parts, no baseplates, no animals, no rare parts (at least not hard to make or find molds), and finally the sets have so many of the same part that it would make it very cost effective for LEGO to make these. Basic tubs and buckets have 500-1000 parts for $10-20. Why shouldn't the same basic piece counts apply to such generic building parts. Though my price estimates lean more toward the higher guesses of $15, $30 and $60. This is very good news and I am looking forward to the opening up the factory contest to standard sized sets. I want to see some awesome castle sets come out of this program. I can see it now "castle life" with 1500 parts making a town well, a candle maker shop, a butcher shop, and a farm. Quote
The Middleman Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 I thought it over for a while, and SuvieD's post basically sums up my conclusion, although I would like to add that all the pieces are really, really small, even smaller than bulk buckets' bricks. However, we must take into account LEGO's desire to make money - which might hike up the price $10-$20. ;) The one thing I REALLY like about these sets is their heavy usage of one of my favorite pieces - the 1x1x2/3 slope. Mr. Lego-builder Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Thanks for the news, Bloody Jay! These sets look really interesting. But what I noticed is that these mini-models aren't all on the same scale. For example, look at the "Amusement Park" and the "Airport." The vehicles are not the same scale. IMO, the prices won't be too high, as SuvieD said, as these are all basic parts with little or no special/<insert that tiresome argument> parts and no minifigures. Quote
jindroush Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Why do I think you're all mistaken. These are not bulk bricks. Expect the prices at least twice as high as your worst estimates posted :P Quote
eDeevo Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Why do I think you're all mistaken. These are not bulk bricks. Expect the prices at least twice as high as your worst estimates posted :P If they are that costly, I would definetly pass... or just wait until they are on clearance ;) Life is Good. Quote
SuvieD Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 :$ bad guess at cost. So much for optimism, the prices for these are awful! Quote
LegoBMW Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I do not really care for mini scale. But i would buy those for pecies. Quote
LegoBMW Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 The monorail car are really neat. PS sorry for the double post. By the time i reallized it it was to late. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 These are horrible. Nothing in any of these three sets appeal to me. These are like "micro-machines" to Hot Wheels. Definately WILL NOT be buying even for parts. I've been quite impressed with what Lego has been coming out with this year but these sets knock them back down a few notches. Quote
Akkhraziel Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I'm hoping the price stay reasonably low and these sell well, though I'll admit they are not my cup of tea. What I really hope is that the program continues, but with increased guidelines and an all in all better run contest. I heard far too many complaints of unfair advantage and manipulation of votes to be entirely satisfied with the results of the first contest. add in to the fact that half the sets are designed by the same person only lends further credo to the rumors and complaints, which is unfortunate if that one individual just happened to have a talent for designing mini-sets. Actually, speaking of such things, how did they every settle on that one Caste MOC set to produce ? Akkh Quote
snefroe Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 it's hard to imagine the skyline set having more than 2500 pieces. it's even harder to imagine that it would only cost 60$, basic parts or not. i think we're looking at 100$ at least... this would probably go to 140 Quote
Christian Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 The three factory sets are now available at S@H! 5526 5524 5525 Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Yikes! Look at the prices! Definately NOT what I expected! :| I guess I won't be getting any of them just yet...However, it is a nice feature that the models have free online building instructions. This way I can see the different designs and I can easily make an inventory to get the parts from Bricklink. (Maybe this will be a cheaper way? :/ ) Quote
chewie Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 free online instructions? where did you see those mrbuildr? EDIT:i found it never mind Quote
sam89 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I don't see why people are moaning at the prices of these sets. If these were system scaled, peole would be saying they were great prices! I think Quote
The Middleman Posted July 19, 2005 Author Posted July 19, 2005 The thing is, they're such... SMALL pieces. Nary a large piece to be found, save the plates at the bottom. With something like the designer sets, you have lots of large pieces as well. Quote
chewie Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 i like all of these..but for one the price and two as mrlegobuildr said you can view the instructions for free and you could then just buy the parts off of ebay or bricklink Quote
languages Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 One of the set designers, Glen (the race track) was on the Inside Tour with me. Hes a very talented designer, even if the sets are expensive..... Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I'm just curious, do you know what Glen built for the Insider Tour Building Contest? Quote
Mini Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 They're not that badly priced. I just ordered one of each. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 If these were mini-fig scale, they would be great sets, but definately over-priced for mini-sized sets. Interesting that these would honestly sell for over $100. I can't see Lego selling a lot of these at this price (even considering the large piece count). I DEFINATELY will be saving my money for Vikings and the new HP sets! Quote
languages Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I'm just curious, do you know what Glen built for the Insider Tour Building Contest? Yes I do as I was there. He built some of the cars featured in the amusment park set and also he built a red barn. He also brought along some of his awsome mechas........Hope this helps Quote
