Yeah this statement caused me question as well as I'm sure I have some in LBG in addition to the light grey. I'll have to check when I get home.

Far be it from me to question Bricklink, but LBG started to come on the scene in about 2004. The last set to use this part in light grey was started in 2004 (9794 for instance has all parts as LBG except for the Cam). So it wouldn't be surprising to me that the color transition took place and Bricklink (I can't believe I'm saying this) missed the change for a couple sets.

Either way, the additional of this part is a welcome addition. I love those little cams.

This set with its new wheels will give us the possibility to do better than with the smaller tires we had before.. Don't expect him to be the only one to motorize this - see my RC Superbike as reference - going from scale 1:6.5 to 1:5 will make many things much easier than before..

Ok, I get what you mean. The sticker causes the trouble.

As I do not apply the stickers, the model just feels correct in my eye. I just consider the DNR lever to work the other way, and the ratios of the gearing are correct (except for reverse).

As for the set, if I were a bike guy I would certainly buy it. As a non-bike guy I'm still impressed, and I love the new parts. If I get a good deal I might even buy it, and I will certainly buy those new parts separately soon. So much new goodies to get from B&P...

Thanks for the review @Milan. I am more inclined to get this set now than before. The new color chain links sure could come in handy.

 

The only thing I feel left out is the incorrect piston placement. LEGO always makes the same mistake with their inline 4 cylinder engines (See the initial car chassis and the tractors): The pistons should be "up down down up" and not "up down up down".

I wondered about that too, but I imagine it won't look good, I'm sure the stickers are here for a reason. The number of them is pretty absurd though...

I was able to find one review without stickers, over at Techlug. It doesn't look great. 

 

Still a pretty cool set for sure, but it loses shelf presence without the stickers. It ends up looking like a half-baked MOC.

I like how they have a big scale bike 

good on LEGO for heading in this bike direction but for me...

I think the scale is too big for the panels and it just looks awkward and bitty... to phrase it poorly.

they should have given the design team a bit longer to refine the looks or come up with some more bike friendly 1:5 scale panels that could work for future bikes also, the aesthetics is not working for me. mishmash.

I’m not a gearbox person for LEGO when it comes to vehicles but as has been said LEGO need to employ better more realistic gearboxes for cars/bikes. These monstrosities take up so much room. These current gears are no doubt around to produce other gearboxes switching between functions so they have to be big and robust but in vehicles like this there is no need for so much robustness and bigness surely?

Im not sold on this even after trying hard I just think 1:5 scale should be way better with more visible inner workings I mean $300+ for a shelf display... those Tamiya 1/6 bike models are looking very nice compared to this with almost the same functionality but way better shelf display, well if you can paint them right of course, Oh it’s LEGO I may miss the point here but... we’ll like others I’ll be getting the parts but not the bike. Look forward to a hopefull better next bike and all the bike MOCs that we will see soon that will be something.

great review btw thanks @Milan for your time for us! well deserved to keep the set but probably not enough compensation for the time committed. Only bit I miss was the compression rate of the shocks like others asked.

ohhh dude im so hyped for this set :D I'll surely buy the set and some separate pair of wheels and shock absorbers! I'm quite confident that with the size it has it could probably fit an RC 2 speed gearbox inside. The only thing is that i need to step up my turning system
This guy made a cool counter steering system like it is on real RC bikes, I'm already working on it :P

I love the new shocks and huge wheels, but like others said the mechanisms are nothing special for a $230 set. As someone else, working brakes (maybe using the old flex system) would have been a great addition. I'll pass on it given how many other great sets they have these days.

So, the gearbox seems underwhelming. To me, at a very high level, it seems like they have recreated the look of the original reasonably well. My big problem with it is the real world bike has zero visual appeal (a hot mess of random colours and panels), so the same applies to the Lego version, no matter how well done. 
In contrast, the red Ducati looks great, and after some tinkering, so does my Lego copy, sans stickers. 
So it’s a no from me.

This one is tricky, as the bike is both a racer and a street legal bike. So, I guess people will buy it and use it as a street bike, too.
So, this bike has an option to choose the shift pattern.

Regarding compensation vs time committed, I like to think there is also the joy you get for doing somehting you really like - Lego, and a vehicle type you really like. In this case - a motorcycle.
Other than that, it really depends on where you live, I guess.
In my country, the average monthly salary (converted to the BMW bike set) = 1.75 BMW bike sets. In other countries the average monthly salary might be closer to 8-12 BMW bike sets.

It's not for everyone, agreed. As noted, I would like to see some Japanese racers next, or a chopper bike.

If we take in consideration that this will be a new "like 1:8 supercars" line, then remember that 42065 also had some flows, and it wasn't cheap either, but I love that car. And I hope that in 2 years we will see some big improvements in this new line.

Tahnks and all good, I personally just have the hope for more people trying such approaches to make more out of bricks than just diplay models.

Also I think esp. LEGO is missing oppertunities here.. If you think about it, rc hobbies are nowadays like "buy model x of brand y - and if something breaks or you want to tune you also just buy prebuild parts from the manufacturer" - so tbh no real creative process needed for the customer and also spare parts cost what they cost - in the brickworld you can easily exchange whatever you need or like.
I guess in general the "brick rc hobby" category could be another market to for the brands to have additional sellings - if they would take it serious and not mess around like some brands do with their "supercars", which more or less just slowly creep around so you have to be emberassed when you show it to friends.. :D

Buwizz is nice, but the use of Bluetooth stack is so limiting in resonsiveness and range - I would hope for some manufacturer to give some brick-compatible REAL rc components in the future.. just a plain 2.4 GHz analog system and maybe speedcontroller included already in a brick-compatible housing.
This would open some real new dimensions to the brickworld - but enough from my dreams :D
