Well that’s definitely saved me about £500!

Was so looking forward to the big Marvel D2C set this year, like everyone else I was hoping for Avengers Tower or a Helicarrier. I was even warming to the idea of a hulkbuster after seeing how well they nailed the recent Bowser model, but instead what we end up with is very underwhelming!

Between this and the Black Panther bust I can’t see them shifting many units at all. I really hope that doesn’t harm the chances of an Avengers Tower in the long run!

I feel the same way.

But for those that like it and get it, I hope they have a fabulous time with it. I'm glad I don't feel conflicted about whether to get it and can peacefully concentrate on other sets.

I have been looking at the hulk buster photos for a while now, thinking “am I being too harsh?”  No, no I’m not.  The UCS Falcon would’ve been universally panned if it was out of proportion by this much or had an overly bulbous cockpit, as would the Star Destroyer, Razor Crest etc. For this very serious amount of money this level of torso inaccuracy just doesn’t fly, whether it be to put in a play feature of it opening or not.

WOOOO! THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM! UCS MORBIUS IS GONNA BE OFF THE WALL!

But yeah, I have no idea how they messed up this badly.

The thing I can’t wrap my head around is why we’re getting yet ANOTHER rendition of the Mark 44 a mere 3-4 years after the last one? And at nearly 5x the price point!

It's the mk48, isn't it? I mean, it's a weird mix in some places, but that gold padding on the forearms is pretty mk48 looking to me.

Ignore this, I forgot the mk44 had them too. To be fair, 4 1/2 years is a fair amount of time, but yeah, it should have been an avengers tower, or quinjet, or helicarrier, or milano, or...

The legs on the Hulkbuster look fine but then it gets progressively more confusing for me as it moves up the weirdly pronounced codpiece into its weirdly-elongated upper torso, resolving in its funky shoulders. This was out of my price-range anyway, but I expected it to be prettier to the eye. Maybe the scale really makes it in real life; as it stands I find this a really hard sell for even the target demographic at the $550 pricepoint.

I find it funny how we're following up what I would consider to be the best year for Lego Marvel (2021 gave us the Daily Bugle, our first CMF series, our first Advent Calendar and the fantastic Infinity Saga wave) with one of the weakest years yet. The only especially interesting sets to me have been the two Doctor Strange ones, Goat Boat and the Wolverine mech for that figure alone. Some other sets, like the new Iron Man Armory and Baby Groot, have been decent but are either overpriced or unexciting, if not both. (I do still want to get those two sets from Costco though.)

Just like the BP Bust, it's really ballsy of them to include a photo from the film on the box to directly compare with the model.

The huge amount of photo touchup to make the plastic look metallic on the box/promo pictures is going to end up just being a mismatched dark red and pearl gold fiasco I fear, especially if they still aren't done transitioning to the darker gold.

Were all these huge sets approved and budgeted during the lockdown surge? Should we expect another year of mostly unwanted badly-priced D2Cs before they read the room and accept the recession?

It's amazing how hard to see is D2C stuff in minifig scale. At this point I'm expecting the LotR D2C set to be just a big ring.

Seeing how LEGO Mario is going, Marvel with this, yep.

Looks like it’s worth $300-$350. Not $550

For real? Also, I love how everyone just glossed over your post and moved on with complaining about the price lol. $350 would be MUCH easier for me to stomach if you are correct.

They’re just saying that’s what it looks like, not what it is actually going to cost

After some time, the only parts where I feel it failed are the Torso and Head.

Every other aspect is done fairly well in terms of design, it's just a matter of some of the angles and small aspects like the shoulder pads not being orientated.

If it was a more realistic price, say £400 for 4049 pieces + three light bricks + exclusive figure + Stand. Thinking it could be anything drastically lower is probably unrealistic given comparisons such as Bowser.

I knew I wouldn’t be into the build but I’m surprised by how bad it turned out. Just huge and overscaled for no reason. I have never been a fan of oversized display models and I still think this price point would be better off providing a Stark Tower.

My hope is Lego listens to feedback and chooses Avengers Tower for the next superhero D2C at this price point. I don’t see Lego Marvel dying anytime soon so we’ll likely have other D2C’s at this price point in the coming years. The Daily Bugle has a great scale imo and was around $200 cheaper than the Hulkbuster. With a price hike like that they may be able to give us a Tower with a landing pad wide enough and sturdy enough to hold a Quinjet. Hopefully they don’t add a Quinjet and lower the piece count of the tower but thats just me getting carried away. I wonder how a building made from technic parts would hold up.

At this point I’m just excited to see if they reuse an MCU design for rocket for the mech, or provide a new design. Even if his comic suit was made to mirror the MCU design I’d still love to see Lego’s take at a comic Rocket Raccoon figure. I guess confirming whether we get blue flamed Ghost Rider or any other figures in that GR set is also something to look forward to. I’ll shut up now but the fact that both sets are exponentially cheaper and are likely set to produce more desirable figures than the D2C’s… a win for cheap consumers I suppose … (but a bad business model).

That's probably the most frustrating thing: It comes so close with the legs and arms and then the whole torso makes it go completely off the rails proportion wise.

It's just kinda baffling. As an +18, $550 set, it's probably meant to be a "come, non-devoted-customer adults, and look at this cool thing; wouldn't you like this cool thing in your home?" set and if so, why would the folks at Lego think someone who's willing to spend several hundred dollars on a Hulkbuster, any Hulkbuster, buy one that's so clearly inaccurate? At $550, we're talking premium product, bells and whistles, and if I was on the hunt for a Hulkbuster statue, I'd probably look further without giving this set a second thought.

I'd like to echo: Happy for the people who like it and who're gonna buy it (seriously, the size alone should be insane), this is just me speculating about the non-Lego consuming market TLG's been trying to court.

I thought it looked cool at first but I'm not a huge Marvel fan. Then I looked at a picture of the mk44 and whoa, it's not good. Looks like hulkbuster started doing steroids and skipped leg day.

Is there really that much pent up demand? I’m perfectly happy with 76105, which I’ll be sticking with.

Agreed, not sure why there was so much hype for another Hulkbuster when it seems like we’d recently had one.

Yeah, the Hulkbuster looks pretty bad. This did not need to exist. Period. I do not understand what LEGO is thinking with these $500+ sets. It just seems like they are throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. Someone who is in the market for a $500+ Hulkbuster is not going to get this, they are going to get a high end collectible like any of the Hot Toys figures that have tons of accurate detail, articulation and accessories and if I recall correctly, are significantly cheaper. This isn't like the Atari that can get by with charm and the fact that it's made of LEGO that would make someone consider buying it over a real, working Atari for much cheaper. This thing looks worse than the last UCS-style Hulkbuster which was cheaper, had a better exclusive figure and had a bunch of neat accessories.

LOL, I guess we can all say this set is definitely BUSTED.

A few points to note:

1) LEGO will get the wrong idea.

This set is not going to sell well. Not because we don't need another Hulkbuster. It is because of the atrocious design. Yet, LEGO will think that we Marvel fans don't like LEGO Hulkbuster at all and LEGO will stop making such sets.

2) The set is bad. I mean , REAL BAD.

What the heck with the chest proportion? It is even worse than the previous one. You bet your sweet big behind that some MOCers can definitely make a better set out of it. And, I don't want to talk about the ridiculous price. You cannot beat a horse to death TWICE.

3) LEGO Marvel needs to change direction.

I can never understand why LEGO cannot have a well-designed big-mech for us all. Whatever the reason is, if you cannot do the job, then let others do it or do other things. That is to say give us vehicles or modular buildings.

Looking at the photos again, I noticed that the underside of the "crotch" area (don't know what else to call it ) simply looks like a plain dark bluish-gray plate. It looks so bad and sticks out like a sore thumb once you notice it.

I think the Hulkbuster and the Black Panther bust are subjects that in theory are popular but that probably aren't popular enough to sell many copies at the price point LEGO picked for them.

I suspect a new UCS Helicarrier or an Avengers/Stark Tower (with a similarly comprehensive minifig selection as the Daily Bugle has but focused on Avengers) would sell much better at this kind of high price point than either the Black Panther bust or the Hulkbuster.

I suspect the Black Panther bust would sell much better if it was just a mask/head similar in size/price to the Venom and Carnage masks or the Iron Man helmet (although the gauntlets and necklace are an iconic part of the Black Panther costume so I can see why they wanted to go that way rather than just a mask/head)

Oh, no, anything but that!

Im thinking the sales would be low for the black panther bust and hulkbuster then lego would say that people dont buy marvel anymore and quietly kill it like they did DC!

…something tells me a successful theme with 20+ sets every year will not be killed simply because two sets underperform (if they even do so in the first place)

THE HULKBUSTER DIDN’T SELL? SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE THEME FOREVER
