Flitwick’s moustache looks goofy

In fairness that part's true to the films! :pir-grin:

I'd actually never seen the 2010/11 Flitwick before so I looked him up, and... wow. Is it my imagination or are the eyes out of scale too?

Using regular legs for the kids was also an odd decision, considering short legs were already used for a kid character (Boba) the very year they were introduced.

... the 4L bars really don’t work as wands...

I think the wand length is at least one reason why the legs remained adult size

His stache isn’t THAT ridiculous though :laugh_hard: I really liked that minifig, until the 2018 version came along to show us how it’s really done.

The only thing the first reboot has over the current second one is Bellatrix’ dresspiece, or rather its print, not the skirt piece itself. The skirt moulding introduced in 2018 is just so much better than the old slope piece

True!

I would make the case that the old Marcus Flint face was better than the new one. Odd, since everything else has been a win - but imo the newer Flint print seems more like a Neville Longbottom prototype.

They really weren't in the old days! Ron with a blue sweater over a grey shirt appears in three Philosopher's Stone sets (it's the only non-uniform Ron from the first film's sets in the original run) yet he only wears blue in one scene in the entire film - and then, he's got a brown jacket in the film which isn't present on the minifig. In fact, I don't believe any Hogwarts student's representation in the original wave is movie-accurate.

It's excusable why the lines for the first couple of films weren't accurate, given that they were developed before the films were out and it was only LEGO's second ever full fledged Licensed theme. Those lines had more in common with other pre-film Harry Potter artwork and merchandise than they did with the films themselves.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they were designing the figures based in the Warner Bros style guide. It's very consistent with the stuff that was coming out during those days. Especially Dumbledore and the portrait of the fat lady were very accurate. But also things like Snape's skintone, Ron's hair and face.

Katana Aragog was laughable

Completely forgot about that build until you mentioned it. That was dreadful. Mine never stood up right, I remember Shelob from the LotR theme blowing it away only a couple of years later. Also from the same set was gold windows for Hagrid's Hut! Truly some...interesting decisions in those waves. Still love them, I remember seeing the Toyfair pictures in early 2010.

Even though it was more fragile due to the material of the piece, I still prefer the look of Dobby's head from the 2010 version. It nails that wide-eyed, droopy-eared expression much better than the current one in my opinion.

I saw it two times already and I love it :D But yeah, it's a little hard I think to create lego sets for it (still really want it tho :grin_wub:). I hope, when there may be a 3rd minifig series, they give us some Fantastic Beasts characters like the first wave.

Well I'm glad you liked it, personally I think it's about on par with 2. Has some good acting, music effects etc but the plot and especially the way it was put together was a bit of a mess for me.

The capes with the stars on the inside were also clearly based off of many of those pre-movie release artwork. Pretty sure characters like Hagrid and Norbert were pulled more from that too.

There are literally pages and pages of people telling me and other Hogwarts Express theorizers that it wasn’t going to happen because lego wouldn’t be able to stretch it to that high a price.

You’re all lucky you didn’t promise to eat anything this time. lol

(and this is why I refused to get into the ‘it has to be Gringotts’ camp)

Wow that’s really interesting. The link of the second picture seems broken, but I looked up that 3D book and it seems that they even created 2002 Hermione’s hair mold and face based on that *oh2*

The Hogwarts Express has to be motorized for that price point, yeah? And possibly a large scale like the DeLorean? Hoping it's bigger than minifig scale with nothing too exclusive so it's an easy pass

Gringotts should have just been included in the 2020 DA set. It’s clear that the Hp design team have no idea on what their doing.

We could excuse Icons cause it was a part of the anniversary but an almost $500 Hogwarts Express?????

And here I thought 2022 HP was gonna be a redemption from last year.

Start with the Disney Train and Station that sold for $330 and start looking at what could add $100 Inflation from precovid to post can cover part. A second station build could cover it as well. So Train, 9 3/4 and a Hogsmead station would do it.

I wonder if we’ll be seeing Arthur with the cast and purple crown in the advent calendar 🤔 That would be perfect to complement grimmauld place. We could also get a new Ginny, and a recycled Lupin or Sirius. But then there’s the leaked Tonks head too..

I find it odd we already had one angry Hermione face and they went ahead and designed two more of those, one looking almost identical to the first one *huh*  And Ron didn’t get a single brand new face. Odd indeed.

I wonder what minifigures could be included at such a pricepoint.  I don't see them leaving out the Trolley Witch, and the Hogwarts Express conductor and King's Cross station guard seem like they have a decent shot at appearing.  And of course, some variations of Harry, Ron, and Hermione are basically guaranteed.

Could Tonks and suited Voldemort appear to explain the leaked heads?

I doubt they would go such a route, but I would be hyped if the minifigure selection was based on the epilogue.

With any luck, the designers will use the high price point D2C format to give us a ton of students to populate the train. Lee Jordan (with tarantula) in particular would be a good choice as a callback to the book, since his main appearances are in the quidditch pitch and he’s unlikely to make the cut in a regular quidditch set. Augusta Longbottom would be a fun addition too. Pansy Parkinson, Blaise Zabini, and Cormac McLaggen also have notable train scenes.
Really, any student character who we should have but don’t yet could easily fit on the Express. We could also get a decent selection of owls and cats that students are bringing along to school, and maybe even the much desired pygmy puff?

And of course, there’s a decent chance that the designers will take the opportunity to give us some bonus Epilogue minifigs (I think we’re pretty safe from the entire set being 19 Years Later though).

Here we again, no Gringotts… Well, I can’t say many people here didn’t predict it, but I still didn’t expect Lego would release a train set for that price. I guess I underestimated how well train sets sell. Now I’m hoping there will be minimum of exclusive minifigures and most of them will be some generic students, because getting like 10+ minifigures from 470€ D2C set from BrickLink will hurt. On the other hand this year is already really expensive with with like 3 sets being in 100€ price range, so at least I’m gonna save some money… again on D2C.

Will you also make a "3D" version with the new sets (without MOC) when they are officially released? Thank you for your work anyway, it helps <3 !

I don’t exactly know what you mean, but I already made version with new sets.

if this has suited Voldermort or epilogue characters this could be good. If it’s just train workers or random students, this may the second easiest pass. Second to only the maxi-figs. This means I will be able to focus on the incredible wave we have in our hands. They should have made the ministry or 12 grimald place the D2C. Never lose hope. We will get Gringotts eventually!

Do all parts currently in sandgreen come in grey?

Majority of them yes, that is why I replaced them. The only one that doesn’t exist in dark bluish grey is cone 2x2x3 jagged - step drill piece which I replaced by just regular cone.

I'm of an age where I had the books right from the start but by the time I was old enough to really pay attention the films were already out - so I had no idea there was art released before the films! I always thought we'd only ever seen official images of the trio and Dumbledore (from the book covers).

I wondered where the glow in the dark Snape came from...

Well I don't have the space or budget (or interest) for a 500 EUR train, but I do love that they're willing to go there. It's great to see that kind of attention and care lavished on the theme. Plus I think if they kept cranking out sets I felt I 'needed' to keep my little Wizarding World up to date, I'd end up bailing sooner. This way it doesn't seem an impossible goal, and I'm more wiling to stretch to keep up. And with that kind of set budget for the Express, I'm confident they'll get around to the locations and sets I want eventually. (More DA, KA, and Hogsmeade, please...)

I'm just going to join the ranks of those hoping there aren't too many exclusive figs that aren't appearing elsewhere.  I did get Cedric (and the Hufflepuff uniform) and Lucius Malfoy from Ameet and I like that they provide other pathways to the figs. Of course it helps that I have DA now, too...
