Originally, I didn't like the rumors of this set when I heard it, then I saw it and moved to a "meh, but that's cool", but then....I found myself going back to the pictures and now it's one I'm DEFINITLEY planning on buying. I'd buy it now but I need to recovery financially from this years sets already!  I live in a tiny apartment for having this hobby so have to rotate my sets but i'd keep this one a permanent display in my office. I'd recommend it.

I feel the same way. I hated the rumours, then when I saw it I loved it. But I kept talking myself out of buying it (and just couldn't afford it). But I keep coming back to it and I really want it in my collection.

Huh? Big Gringotts building with dragon, Leaky Cauldron with brick wall entrance, Borgin & Burkes with a bit of Knockturn Alley would easily make $470 set for me. All of them pretty iconic, in fact more iconic than half of buildings included in 2020 DA set :D If that wasnt enough they could add Madam Malkins shop to make it more colorful, but I think it would be already at 6000+ pieces without it, considering Gringotts and even Leaky Cauldron should be bigger than regular DA buildings.

You've only listed three buildings (the pervious set had four and was $70 less) and only two of those buildings are actually from Diagon Alley. There just aren't enough buildings to justify another $470 set. Another DA set would just be Gringotts, the Leaky Cauldron (although considering LEGO won't even do DH sets for the HP line I'm not sure they would do a bar), and a number of forgettable shops to pad out the set like Scribbulus and the Daily Prophet in the 2020 set. I'd rather see Gringotts get a stand-alone $200 set compatible with the 2020 DA than an entire second street also featuring rejects from the 2020 set and maybe a Leaky Cauldron if we're lucky.

Yes, only 3 buildings (plus big dragon) but in pieces it would be bigger than 2020 DA set, which would make for that price... You have to realize that Gringotts would be probably 2 times the size of regular DA building.

Just go for it! 😈

Gringotts shouldn't be much bigger than WWW.

It shouldn‘t be taller, but a lot wider, and deeper too  A $300 Gringotts (including interior), a $50 dragon and $120 shop (Leaky Cauldron?) combined in a single set seems feasible to me :shrug_oh_well:

@Micmac made a Gringotts MOC some time ago that isn't that much larger than WWW, it's pretty much perfect in size imo.

Maybe it’s just me, but this looks a lot larger than WWW though

It uses the same 16x32 baseplate all DA sections so far were built on.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like for it to fit in with the current DA’s “alley” arrangement style (32x64 instead of 16x128, shop fronts facing each other) would have to make it on at least a 32x32 baseplate. It doesn’t necessarily have to fit the whole think, but Micmac’s got a photo of that version with the others lined up like that and it’s just sitting there. At the very least, it should connect to the sides.

It isnt a lot taller but it is still taller than other DA buildings and as BrickBob Studpants said it is also a lot wider. On average regular DA building had like 1370 pieces, Gringotts would have over 2,5k. So yeah price is not the problem really even with only 3 buildings as few people here mentioned. I wish there were set names leaked already to prove if I am wrong or not, but sadly we will wait months for that, specially for D2C set.

I actually used a 32x32 baseplate for a diagon alley extension moc - I had a normal shop in line with the others on the first 16 studs and then I have Borgin and Burke’s behind it

Also apart from Gringotts I’m pretty happy with the Harry Potter stuff I’ve got now so im sort of passively curious to see what the designers come out with:

Yey. Happy building! What movie did you go for?

I watched the Christmas films as I can watch HP any time. I only built the accessories and figures so far (not the books or owl) but I think it will be a fun (and long!) build. :moar:

Very true. The books are an interesting build and I love how Hedwig slots on top (you'll see when you get there).

Question about the Hogwarts Moments from last year: did anyone else have problems with the Charms book closing flush? The other three are fine, but Charms seems to have a gap when closing both sides together. It's not a huge deal, just wondering if anyone else ran into this when building.

I got it! Debating whether to watch HP 1+2 or Home Alone 1+2 or Miracle on 34th Street while I build. :grin_wub:

Watch all of them! You just have to build the set very, very slowly

I'm thinking of buying Hogwarts Icons tomorrow with my Christmas money. Would anyone recommend it, or not?

Definitely buy. I am building it and it is a joy. It's great as a display and I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a build this much. Lots of variety, not too repetitive, etc.

I find the furniture doesn't stay in the charms book as well as the others. It close flush if the furniture is lined up properly, it's just a bit tricky.

If we‘re lucky, we might hear the set names for the first half of the list rather soon, but three conditions need to be met for that to occur:

  1. The toy fairs can be held, which is far from a certainty at this point
  2. Some Bothans are willing to sacrifice themselves to bring us this information
  3. The sets actually get released in June

I'm surprised there are any Bothans left after all this time, but I do hope there are some still lurking in the shadows willing to take the risk.

Hi all, decided to share some of my thoughts and predictions regarding the new sets after a lengthy break from the forum.

I reckon the smallest set will be another Hogwarts module, possibly Lupin's classroom or the Gryffindor common room, the former being perhaps more likely due to the dormitory GWP and chest set.

The 50$ set could be a remake of Hagrid's hut or yet another Hogwarts set. Interior-wise it could include either of the previously mentioned in addition to a hallway with the crouching witch statue. New variants of Fred and George would be natural minifigure choices. The Fat Lady could also be included as a tie in to the possible common room. It would also be nice to have a set below the "Clocktower"/Hospital wing set, although none of the aforementioned interiors would work ideally on the lowest level.

The 80$ and 90$ sets could be the Shrieking Shack and Durmstrang ship, assuming that both sets are for HP. Both sets are classics due for a remake but the Shack is more likely imo purely based on prominence in the story. Very hyped for the Shack and a new werewolf Lupin!

At least one of the 100$ and 120$ sets will probably be a Hogwarts set. Interior-wise it could once again have all of the aforementioned in addition to a proper Dumbledore's office. I wish the exterior has at least some rocky foundation to connect naturally to the Chamber of Secrets. The lowest level could have the dungeons and the secret passage below the crouching witch statue. The other set, once again assuming both are HP and not FB, could be (I hope that is) Gringott's. I'm rather sceptical of the low price point but I reckon it could be done.

The 470$ set could of course be a Gringott's + DA expansion and it would serve the build better, however, I hope that is not case as the price is ridiculous. I believe it would be odd not to sell Gringott's individually as a more affordable set due to its iconic nature. The set could be a micro-scale quidditch world cup stadium in the vein of the football stadiums. License + the Leprechaun etc. could result in the higher price tag. However, the lack of screen time makes it feel very unlikely. I just wish I could get a Gringott's for max 200$. :hmpf:

And of course, the other 50$ set is likely a buildable creature. My money is on a niffler.
