Good to see you back! How did your surgery go? :classic:

Too bad we're not gawking at new descriptions right now :sceptic: I hope this coming week will be it!

Thank you! Surgery went okay. Just a couple of hiccups, but recovering well. I'm so excited to hear what we're getting this year! Can't believe it's been two weeks since we thought we might get them soon. I so hope it's this week. :moar:

I really like this idea. Could be some great colours and characters. Definitely would be a fun scene to re-create. Not sure anyone has mentioned it before on this forum either (apologies if I am mis-remembering)

Because @Yope didn't mention it, I thought I would :tongue:, they'd done a vastly improved revisit of Snape's class 4705 in the new modular format (only better :wink:) combined with the twins loosing their fireworks. (I liked the use of fish and whips... Shockingly, not a combination available at your chippy.) It's a smaller scale set than the one proposed by RBR but very cute, thought you might like it.

*waves @BacktoBricks* Good to see you back and on the mend. :classic:

A new week. A new chance to be disappointed. :pir-laugh:

Yes either leaks will come and we'll have some disappointed (inevitable) or nothing will leak and we'll probably all be disappointed lol.

I'm not making a wishlist, I'm just hoping for a creative range of sets and, what I really want, is a handful of new minifigure designs. Please don't let me down LEGO. :moar:

Come on, please be a little more optimistic! The set descriptions are likely to drop any day now! :laugh:

What do you mean the leaks will be disappointing? Is it because of the sets we got last year, because I still thought that Hogsmeade and The Chamber of Secrets were very solid Lego Harry Potter sets.

I do have a wishlist, but maybe I shouldn't, because I might be disappointing. The two sets on the top of my wishlist are an updated Shreaking Shack and Gringotts Bank! I also think a new Durmstrang Ship would awesome to see!

I have faith that Lego won't disappoint us this year, unless you're disappointed about the fact that we probably won't get any DH sets. I feel like Lego Harry Potter fans have a rich selection of sets to enjoy! I'm ready for Promo Bricks to reveal the summer 2022 lineup and as Dumbledore says "Let the feast begin!" :moar:

Sorry, I meant that people will be disappointed if nothing leaks, and if something leaks, some people will still be disappointed.

Personally I wasnt blown away by last years waves, so I set my expectations accordingly :) Hogsmeade and the Chamber were highlights particularly Lockharts section. This year, just some interesting new minifigs will be enough for me as I am running out of storage space anyway.

I am sure that I will not be more disappointed than with last years summer wave. I just hope that there won't be many Hogwarts castle sets or brickbuilt creatures/figures, the rest can only suprise me in a positive way.

Agreed, they‘d have to try HARD to make this year’s sets disappointing :laugh_hard: Nobody‘s expecting DH sets anymore and we know the new Hogwarts style is here to stay, so most people’s expectations should be pretty realistic by now

I also expect the first remakes of sets like Hagrid's Hut, Qudditch (hopefully with different team than Slytherin) and maybe even Hogwarts Express.

That‘s what I‘m afraid of the most :distressed: Hagrid‘s Hut would be a great set if it‘s the PS version with Norberta and Fang, but other potential remakes don‘t have much to offer minifig-wise.

I guess we were very lucky (and spoiled) so far in terms of remakes. I hope our lucky streak continues for a little while longer :grin:

I don't think we'll get a Hogwarts Express remake this year. The current one is due to retire in December so I could see one next year, but would be odd to have two on shelves at the same time. I know the Ford Anglia was in two sets at the same time for a while, but that wasn't the main part of the set. I could see a Quidditch remake happening though (Ravenclaw robes with blue cape would be nice) and even a Hagrid's Hut, although I would like to see another year before the later happens in all honesty when we're still missing buildings such as the Shrieking Shack. Overall, I just want to know what we're getting and will only be disappointed if the majority of the sets are brick built creatures or objects, because I'm not expecting DH sets (not even letting myself think we might get Gringotts) and can deal with the new castle style for the cute vignettes it provides.

It also looks like all the Moments books are due to retire by the end of this year, even the two releasing in March, so I'm thinking that might be the end of that novelty. Whilst I think there is the potential for at least a couple more it will be good if that opens up more spaces for more traditional small playsets, but I hope it doesn't indicate a dwindling down of the theme instead.

Hopefully this is just because Potions + Transfiguration will be out for 2 years then, and perhaps they just don't forecast DADA and Divination being popular enough for longer than a year. I kinda wish they did a couple of extra DADA books (Lupin at least, Lockhart has had a bit of coverage with the CoS set this year) though, but I understand why they wouldn't want several DADA books clogging up the market.

The new Hospital Wing set gives me some hope. It looks like they've begun paying a little more attention to the façade. Even with the new format, a decent rendition of the Bell Towers isen't out of the question. The 2021 modular format "allows you to rearrange, to mix and match. Gives us also an opportunity to tap into locations and moments that we haven't before because maybe they weren't iconic enough in itself and now we can actually go into those locations." - Marcos Bessa in the zusammengebaut interview (last May I believe). Putting a lot of hope in "haven't before" not just being Fluffy's chamber.

If it isn't Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw, I can do without. What I'd love is a four pack, one from each House with Ron in a Keeper's uniform. Make it one set of printed legs, one pair of shoulder pads and a helmet, and you could easily swap the Keeper to be from any House. Three other printed heads, three/ four hair pieces and you've built in variety. Make it so, lego!

Betting on the Knight Bus instead of the Express. PoA and all. Makes more sense now than later.

I'd seen the expected EOL on the Moment sets, but thinking of it this way makes me unexpectedly sad. :sad:

I love the look of the new Hospital Wing, it shows that the 20th Anniversary style of Hogwarts sets can have good interior and exterior details. This Clock tower set isn't as good as the 2019 one, but it shows that the 2022 Hogwarts sets have some potential to be really good.

I would love to get another Quidditch field set with Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw this time. Even a minifigure four pack would be great, I just really want more Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff Quidditch torsos. It could also give us a way to get new characters that haven't been done before in Lego.

I could see Lego doing an updated Hogwarts Express and Knight Bus sooner rather than latter. Personally that 2019 Knight Bus was perfect and doesn't really need to be redone. The Hogwarts Express makes sense, because it's more iconic. Maybe this time around we'll get a Hogsmeade Station instead of Kings Cross Station.

It's sad to see the EOL on those Moments sets, including those newer books, I personally really liked those sets. They're sitting on top of my book shelf next to Diagon Alley and Hogwarts

Well the first floor has some details and I kinda like the white windows but the Clock Tower itself is still quite ugly and very inaccurate. I know that many of you don't care about accuracy at all but for me it is quite a big deal. I understand why they named it the Hospital Wing and not the Clock Tower, because the set just doesn't look like the actuall building... even if you add one more floor like some people suggested. That being said I don't wanna sound like some whiny boomer here, because I still find something to be happy about on these sets, even if it's just minifigures. I just wish they would put more care into displayability and movie accuracy with this new castle system.

I'm definitely in the camp of wanting some nicer movie-accurate designs like we had in the 2018-2020 line. Hopefully that will come with the summer wave a bit more, but I suppose that's just left to see at this point.

While I get that we’re getting to the point of getting remakes of subjects that have already been cover since the reboot (and indeed, the Chamber of Secrets and Hospital Wing sets are partial remakes already) I really can’t get behind the idea of Hagrid’s Hut and Quidditch remakes at this time.

Hagrid’s Hut is an inevitable remake, but the problem is that Lego seems to be gearing up for a year of sets based on PoA/GoF. And since the set that just retired was PoA based, the only way they could do anything really new with a 2022 Hagrid’s Hut would be to make something based entirely off the books - like Hagrid having a depressive episode in his hit while Grubbly-Plank teaches the students about unicorns outside. I’d much rather they hold off on making it for a bit so they could do something based off PS, OotP, or HBP.

As for quidditch, while there is a quidditch scene in PoA that would allow them to do something different, it’s not a scene that would really give us what we want when recreated. I highly doubt that a PoA quidditch set would include many more players than Harry and Cedric, since the dementors and Dumbledore are much more important to that scene than any of their teammates. I can’t think of a single person who wouldn’t rather get a quidditch accessory pack with one player from each house, so they could build entire teams if they want.

Now, if Lego is going to do a remake of a post-reboot set do you know what it should be? The Whomping Willow.
The 2018 Willow set was mostly focused on the castle section and Ford Anglia, leaving the titular tree rather neglected by comparison. Add on the fact that the flying car had to be able to perch in the branches and the Willow ended up looking positively anemic, and had a tendency to she some of the decorative twig pieces when you made the branches swing around. A PoA themed set that focused solely on the tree would have the opportunity to significantly improve the build and between the two different scenes that happen there in PoA there’s a very promising character lineup (including Padfoot and Lupin’s werewolf form, which are admittedly both high on my personal wishlist). I just think it would be the best option if we’re going to have a remake of a recent set this wave.

(there’s also the possibility that the fabled $470 set is a motorized Hogwarts Express, but that’s an entirely different kettle of fish)

I understand why people really dislike the 2021-2022 system of Hogwarts, because the 2018-2020 Hogwarts sets were more displayable and movie accurate. It is a shame that Lego isn't bothering to expand upon that system anymore. I'm always on the optimistic side of things and I feel that the 2021-2022 system of Hogwarts has given us good minifigures and a stackable interior. Maybe it's just the nostalgia side of me kicking in, because these newer sets remind me of modern interpretations of the Lego HP sets from the early 2000's.

I want movie accurate designs also like what we got from 2018-2020, but in the new lineup. I feel like the summer wave should be able to make every HP Lego fan happy. 2021 was a different year for Lego HP, but I think that the designers can bring back some of their mojo and bring us some spellbinding new additions to our collections.

I never thought of that, but a Hagrid's Hut could be remade, but I would want it to be based off of The first film, so it could include Norbert and Fang. If they did remake the Whomping Willow section of Hogwarts, maybe they could make the tree connect with a passage to the Shrieking Shack. Assuming Lego is making a Shrieking Shack this summer. Lego made a smooth passage between Moaning Myrtle's bathroom and The Chamber of Secrets last year.

I'm hoping this week will be the week we get those Lego Harry Potter summer 2022 set rumors, because I'm very anxious for those to be revealed by Promo Bricks

Maybe you could even through in a new Unicorn, even though that might be a little dark, but they added Buckbeak in the set where the Hippogriff dies.

I think you might want to rewatch PoA - because there might be a scary executioner, but they spend a good chunk of the movie explaining very thoroughly how the hippogriff didn’t die :snicker:

I do sympathize with wanting to get a unicorn in some way, though I think we’re out of luck with the Harry Potter theme (maybe the Fantastic Beasts franchise will throw us a bone one day?). But Fang and Norbert(a) are definitely the big draws to a Hagrid’s Hut remake - although theoretically a OotP version could still have Fang and also feature thestrals.

I think the problem with fully connecting them like Myrtle’s bathroom and the Chamber of Secrets is that the latter just needs a trapdoor entrance and chute, which is pretty easy to manage with the new format, but the passage between the Whomping Willow and Shrieking Shack is an underground tunnel between two fairly distant ground level locations. I don’t think we’re likely to see the actual tunnel constructed out of Lego in a set, but maybe we’ll get the entrances (which, admittedly, the 2004 and 2018 sets both did cover). I would be cool to see sets of both locations done though, if only so Lego could be strategic about which Minifigures they include where.

I know that Buckbeak survives, but it was dark having an executioner in the Lego set. It shows that Lego doesn't mind tapping into a little bit of the darker side of the HP universe.

Look at the Rise of Voldermort Lego set. It included a bone,a hand, and some blood alongside little Voldermort to do the ressurect the dark lord. I know Ninjago made that Oni Temple of Ressurection set, but it's still dark and doesn't prove why Lego can't do DH sets

It’s not that Lego can’t do DH sets, it’s that those last four movies (yes, I’m including OotP and HBP) are harder to market to that 7-9+ age range that the standard play sets are rated for - or more accurately, the parents of those 7-9 year olds. That’s why we only got two sets each for OotP and HBP in 2020, and why none of the featured the prominent death scenes from those movies.

From what I know, Lego hadn’t planned for more than 3 years in the rebooted theme, so when that 4th year came along and was also the 20th anniversary they just rolled with it regardless of the fans preconceived notion that it was ‘supposed to be’ time for DH.

Personally, I’m near certain we’ll eventually get DH sets, just not a full wave of them, because Lego will want to balance them out with so ‘friendlier’ sets like they did for OotP and HBP two years ago. Either that or they’ll just start dropping a random DH or two set every year or so (except not this year, because WB probably wants them to do something Fantastic Beasts related and that’s a similar kind of risky).

We must not forget, though, that in 2020 regular sets were based on OotP (Room of Requirement and Forbidden Forest) and HBP (Astronomy Tower and Attack on the Burrow), but there was also the CoS 4 Privet Drive. So, I would not be shocked in seeing a wave based on PoA and GoF, but with a set from PS or CoS.

Talking about Hagrid's Hut remake, in my opinion more and more possible the more time passes (in this new reboot of the series we haven't had regular Hagrid untill now, just the gold one, and in 2021 he appears only in the very expensive Diagon Alley set), there are not so few scenes that LEGO could represented:

- PS: Birth of Norbert(a) (Dragon Egg/Baby Norbert + Fang with Hagrid, Harry, Ron, Hermione and Draco);

- CoS: Hagrid's arrest (Hagrid, Dumbledore, Caramell, Lucius, Harry and Ron + Fang + a little outside part with spiders);

- PoA: Buckbeak's Rescue (a pure remake of the 2020 set);

- OotP Hagrid confronts with Umbridge (Hagrid, Umbridge, Harry, Ron, Hermione)

- HBP: The last memory (Harry, Hagrid, Slughorn + Fang + Aragog)

- HPB: Attack on Hagrid's Hut (Hagrid, Harry, Draco, Bellatrix, Snape and a Deatheater);

I don't remember other main scenes with Hagrid's Hut (but it's a long time since I watched the movies the last time) and I'm not saying all of these scenes are equally likely (I would eliminate the pure remake, for example) or equally enjoyable, but there's material at least for 5 Hagrid's Hut sets :snicker:.
