The full moon is on February 16 so maybe that is their reveal date?  I'd be happy with Werewolf Lupin, Sirius & a new Dobby set among the releases for this year.

I think the fill moon + Siriusly (Sirius reference) = Shrieking Shack remake.

Not sure about Dobby's sock...could be the $20 set.

Maybe both. They could be waiting for the fill moon to reveal the new and improved werewolf head mold with the Shrieking Shack. That would be pretty epic

We need something soon or people here will go mad.

Listen, I sacrificed a goat to ancient demons from a different dimension, went into full conspiracy mode based on a vague hint, somehow two members here are after my bank account now, I got featured on promobricks‘ IG story, and all of that happened in the span of two days. How much more mad can it get?!? :laugh_hard:

You can if they actually make a Deathly Hallows set and you lose that bet

I truly hope that the D2C is a Gringotts set even loosely based on DH, because if not...

Two? I'd say the rest are just keeping schtum as to their nefarious plans... Don't count them out.

What was your half of the wager, btw? It's been too long (and @THELEGOBATMAN doesn't tend to mention your potential loss nearly as often as you do ). Weren't you going to eat a broomstick? (lego-sized or real?)

I honestly don't remember if there was a side of @BrickBob Studpants' wager. I just remember saying I'll eat my own hand if we don't get any DH sets this year.

Well that's an excellent reason not to mention it  but also a horrible wager if so. I get the sense that Slytherin is underrepresented on this forum...

I am a Slytherin. Just an awfully optimistic one

There actually wasn't, muahahaha :laugh_hard: Soon we finally get to see a live re-enactment of Wormtail's noble (?) sacrifice on this very forum *oh2* I've been looking forward to this all year long

And no, you're not getting out of this with a puny loophole like that Trelawney outfit

I can't wait to see your smile fade when it turns out every set we're getting this year is based on Deathly Hallows

Well at least tying the news release (leak) to an actual full moon takes a bit more creative thought than just coinciding with the season finale episode of a SW show.  Maybe Lego should consider doing the same like actually releasing some new SW sets on May the 4th.

So besides Back to Hogwarts & Harry's birthday, which are fairly close together, what important dates should be considered for HP releases and news?

None. That's not how LEGO works.

Or maybe Whomping Willow remake based on werewolf scene from POA

I don’t think that is a coincidence. Sirius-ly and a full moon… It may be a stretch but I think they’re hinting that we are finally getting Shrieking Shack with a new Sirius and werewolf Lupin!

I’ve already expressed how much I’d love a Whomping Willow remake here, and I think at this point I think the Shrieking Shack is about as guaranteed as the Fluffy encounter and Chamber of Secrets were last year.

The thing is, I don’t think Lego would put werewolf Lupin in a Shack set the same way they did with the first version. Besides the obvious screen accuracy issues, I expect both less than a full Minifigure from Lego’s new version of the werewolf, which obviously takes up a lot more budget than the generic wolf head cover they added the Shack back in 2004, and given that there are already 7 human characters that appear in that scene I highly doubt the new version will be able to squeeze in a werewolf when Lupin doesn’t transform until they get back to the Hogwarts grounds.

Now, a PoA Willow remake, that would be a good place for a werewolf.

And another possibility - I’ve seen a bunch of people pointing out the the piece count of the upcoming $20 set indicates a large animal and speculating that it’s Buckbeak, but I’ve only seen people mentioning the CoMC class and not the Buckbeak v. Werewolf Lupin fight right before the movie’s climax. It might be a film only scene, but it ticks off a lot of things that would make it very appealing for Lego: it takes place in the forbidden forest (and we went a whole year without a Harry Potter tree build, so we’re overdue), it’s an action packed scene with a decent amount of play value but nobody dies, two of the three required minifigs already exist from the Hospital Wing, it gives them a new set to make Buckbeak available in (which will be an automatic draw to anyone who didn’t get Hagrid’s Hut), and if the Expecto Patronum set from 2019 managed a new stag mold and the prints+recolors for a new Sirius then I think a new screen accurate werewolf is definitely within budget (which will draw in anyone who already has Buckbeak). I can really see Lego doing it, with the actual build being a tree or two filled with bats.

Gosh I hope we get news soon, I’m clearly going stir crazy.

I saw a custom lupin wolf that used the Demogorgan’s legs and claws. I think those pieces and a new head mould like the original would be good enough for me, the werewolf design is a hard one to translate, I’d take that compromise. I just hope we get a new dog mould for Sirius/The Grim at some point, would be nice to put that with the Knight Bus to make it a true 2004 remake.

If there isn’t going to be any Deathly Hallows set this year, I do hope they continue on from the 2021 sets by covering PoA and GoF. I’m pretty much using the new Hogwarts sets as Minifigure and accessory packs at this point so whatever they produce would be good. (I’m thinking a dark tower with buckbeak and Sirius though)

outside of Hogwarts sets though, all that we really need from PoA is the Shrieking Shack, they could maybe even include another Hogsmead shop to add to last year’s set. For GoF, the Durmstrang ship is a must, would love a good Horntail remake, but I feel it’s too close to the last one. The second task hasn’t been done in the new era so that could be on the cards too.

as for the D2C, if it’s not Gringots or the Ministry…what the heck could it be? It’s not a Hogwarts expansion, they’d Ben stupid to do another Hogwarts icons-style set with that still out. It’s gotta be Gringots, with a dragon and maybe extra shops like Borgin and Burkes? Or the ministry, which would be amazing.

I personally doubt the Ministry is a contender for the D2C. The entire thing is underground, which means no proper exterior, which isn’t very good for an 18+ display piece. Not to mention that the Ministry just isn’t quite iconic enough for Lego to be confident enough to put the highest Harry Potter price tag ever on it. I think the Ministry would work much better as a series of vignettes or even quote set dioramas (“You’re lying Delores. And one mustn’t tell lies”)

My money would be on the D2C being either Gringotts (just because they have to know we’re all foaming at the mouth for it now, although personally I’d rather it came as it’s own $120-$200 set than getting another large Diagon Alley section), or a motorized Hogwarts Express with multiple carriages, a complete Hogsmeade Station, thestral drawn carriages, and the Hogwarts grounds gates with their winged boars.

I wouldn’t completely discount the possibility of another sculptural set (the most likely candidate being Dobby) but I agree that it would be unfavorably in competition with the Hogwarts Icons set, so it does seem less likely.

I do not remember the exact wording, but could you not eat a Lego minifig hand and be home free (kids do not do this at home:tongue:)?

You mean a set that was less than half the price of the upcoming Harry Potter D2C (and therefore half the size), has a natural cave interior that gives it a lot of wiggle room with the design, heavily features vehicles, and only has a single level beside the entrance? Yeah, not the same thing as far as technical execution goes. :snicker:

And that doesn’t change the fact that the Batcave >>>>>> the MoM as far as significance to their respective franchises goes. People were willing to put up with a less than pretty wall of taupe studs because the whole sliding down the pole to the Batcave thing is iconic enough that it’s been parodied countless times and even non-fans will immediately recognize the reference – the Ministry of Magic will just never have that clout.

Exactly  That‘s what I‘ve been saying the whole time: it‘s the biggest HP set ever, whatever the subject matter is it has to deserve that honour without the slightest shadow of a doubt  Not sure why people think the MoM is even anywhere close to being a contender here. It‘s simply not iconic or important enough in the grand scheme of things.

Just look at the flagship sets of other themes:

  • Star Wars: Millennium Falcon
  • Marvel: Helicarrier
  • DC: The abovementioned Batcave
  • LotR: Orthanc
  • HP 2018-2021: Hogwarts / Diagon Alley
  • Jurassic World: T-Rex + gate

Hard to find anything more iconic in any of these cases. Exceptions include Barad-dûr, the visitor centre, and the Avengers Tower for LotR, JP, and Marvel respectively, but the three we got are still worthy of the flagship title
