SO, that is why I am so stoked about getting the Dark Tower. OMG yes. Even though 1+2 has the music which makes me think of HP the most (Hedwig's Theme, Hogwarts Forever!), POA had some gorgeous music. I wish A Window to the Past had become a theme for the series. The later movies missed John Williams so much, although I have grown to enjoy them. Edited February 21, 2022 by BrickFunatic Quote

Not sure if I’d really want another quidditch set the size of the last one, but I’d definitely snap it up for those two. I do think we’d be better off getting an accessory pack or battle pack type set with at least one player from each house, mainly because it’s the only real format that would allow up to build up a Ravenclaw team as well. nicknack116 Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 Catching up on a few pages of commentary on the Summer set descriptions, and it's exciting to finally have news. It sounds to me like the Ministry of Magic set will be OotP-based. The Hall of Prophecy supposedly being included seems to point that direction. If the dementors are really dementors, could they be included with the idea that they be used to recreate the attack on Harry over the summer? Because that's the reason he even goes to the Ministry in the first place. Umbridge, Lucius, and Arthur are all present in the scenes around Harry's trial at the Ministry. Ron might even be Percy, who's also in that scene. Or maybe we're given Ron (if it is Ron) and a death eater or two (with Lucius) to also recreate the Hall of Prophecy fight. But then again, I'm surprised to get a Ministry of Magic set that doesn't include Dumbledore and Voldemort fighting in the atrium. I've also seen lots of comments saying the big D2C set is obviously more Diagon Alley. I feel like we were saying the same thing last year on the Mario discussion that the D2C "had to be" Princess Peach's castle, and then we got something entirely out of the box...er, block, as it were. I wonder if something similar is happening here? I'd love to get a set with Gringotts and The Leaky Cauldron, but I wonder if there are any more recognizable Diagon Alley buildings to make? And it seems like both of those could be standalone purchases. But I'm surprised to see hardly any mention of a minifig-scale Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch. It could easily give us full rosters of all four house teams and any number of random/requested students/staff as spectators. Not to mention it would be an impressive display piece on its own. Quote

Given then number of minifigs we got in Diagon Alley, I don’t think four full quidditch teams are in the cards, but otherwise it’s still a possibility. I think the reason most would consider it less likely is because it’s not as in your face as we’d expect the most expensive Harry Potter set ever to be. I think Lego could definitely make the idea work (they’re on what? The third international stadium set?) it is hard to imagine they’d do it at such a high price tag. But then, that’s the issue with pretty much any D2C theory right now, isn’t it? What new thing could Lego possibly do for that price? Quote

There are three options in my mind: It's purely based on OotP: the "Dementors" are Death Eaters, "Lucius" really is Lucius, Umbridge is in her Wizengamot attire and the mystery figure is Tonks It's purely based on DH: the dementors really are just that, "Lucius" is Yaxley, Umbridge is her DH version (perhaps with printed locket) and the mystery figure could be Scabior or Thicknesse It's a mix of both I have no idea which is preferable. What I want the most are Tonks, Death Eaters, and Yaxley, but those rule each other out DH is preferable because then we will get 3 other figs than the trio and that is a rare treat If it is OotP where are the fighters on both sides? If it instead is from the trial where is Fudge, Dumbledore etc? Quote

Beyond the Leaky Cauldron and Gringotts (which I agree make good standalones), Eeyelops Owl Emporium where Harry gets Hedwig Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions where Harry first meets Malfoy (in the books) and they all get their school robes Magical Menagerie where Ron goes to get medication for Scabbers and Hermione acquires Crookshanks (both of whom put in an appearance in one of the Shrieking Shack scenes, whether they're in that set or not) Slug and Jiggers where students go to get potions ingredients Wiseacres Wizarding Equipment, Broomstix and Potage's Cauldron Shop are some that stood out visually. Rosa Lee Teabag's or Sugarplum's Sweets Shop also come to mind. I'd rather see Borgin and Burkes in Knockturn Alley than some of those, though. And while it didn't serve a role in the stories, another shop that really stood out visually was Dystyl Phaelanges. I think they could do something special recreating that. That's the sort of store that's perfect for a set like DA (II /KA), because it's highly atmospheric, but there's no scene you're 'missing' by not having it in your collection. People would be happy to get it if they can afford it, not enraged they're missing out. Those are expectations they wouldn't have to manage, so it seems a more judicious choice than a location like Gringotts, say. As for a D2C Quidditch pitch, given all the time the movies spent there, an excellent argument can be made for it, but I also don't think we'd get so many minifigs in a set like that. If anything it feels like more of a display option for figs you have than a way to get us the missing minifigs. For one thing they don't seem to do that (28 minifigs just for the four teams?), and for another, having demonstrated a willingness to give us unnamed minifigs as part of the collection (first in last year's AP and now in the trunk), a Quidditch team is a great way to increase diversity, which they've stated as a goal. In fact, it's more suited there than usual as the gloves the players wear solve the hand colour issue more organically than students wearing mittens in the Great Hall / their common rooms / dorms does in the trunk set. (Plus I just can't see them gating the Ravenclaw uniforms behind such a high price tag again; people would go barmy. ) That at least feels like AP material, which would also help get around the fact we don't know who was even on most of the teams most years. MOCing is required. Edited February 21, 2022 by krimimimi Quote
drewdotexe Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 (edited) Wow, a lot of conversation to be had, seems that most people are seeing a good reception to the sets. I'll leave a few thoughts, although I'm not trying to guess too much until we get images etc.. alas I'm trying to keep my hopes low, with a more restricted budget in my life now I need to be more selective with what I buy. However any selection of good design/minifigures/stickers/unique pieces could sway me! 76400 - Hogwarts Carriage with Thestrals Got to say for a budget set this could be promising, it's only a small package too. If we get a new torso for Luna I'll be picking this up as it's so cheap. 76401 - Hogwarts: Sirius' Rescue I'm glad we're not leaning in too hard to the modular system this year. I'm not a fan of the modular style, it's too neat and 'boxy' for my liking, so I'm being a bit stricter on myself buying these sets going forward. This might be a get for me, not sure yet will have to see the build for unique pieces. I'm assuming that Ginny will be in the set for some Gryffindor robe representation as well. 76402 - Dumbledore's Office OK so I have actually acquired a lot of the 2002 sets through moving in with my OH (who I did not know had all these sets?!? Baffling but also very exciting) so I will have the original to compare to! I wonder if they are going to differentiate any of the minifigure builds in this one. 76403 - Ministry of Magic Now this is where it gets interesting for me. Not sure what film this is based off, or if it's a Diagon Alley situation where we're taking 'moments' from the films to form a cohesive set. 76404 - LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar This could be anything. For the price increase I'm hoping for six completely new minifigs but that's unlikely to happen mwahaha. 76405 - D2C Set No idea. Krimimimi has shown that a DA expansion is possible (let's remember that the first set had Scribbulus of all shops included, only the diehard fan would recognise the name alone), kinda hoping it is, at the same time though I built 3 out of 4 of ScarletPatronus' MOCs for DA (can't afford the next one, however I have the stickers and instructions so it's just down to me to get the bricks), and it's such a beautiful MOC that I kinda want LEGO to stick to Gringotts and the Leaky Cauldron lol. (Would also retrofit some of last years AC, result). Won't get my hopes up too high. Fully expecting another Hogwarts Icons moment to be honest. Could almost see a Horcruxes display (Diary, Ring, Locket, Cup, Diadem and Snake), motorised Hogwarts Express, that kind of thing. 75946 - Hungarian Horntail Not massively excited for this, the brick built Fawkes and Hedwig are repetitive to build and I can never get the wings right lol. Probably an easy pass for me at this point. 76407 - Shrieking Shack This... is probably a must buy. Oh I hope we get a werewolf Lupin, but in the style where his head is just on his suit lol, it's so silly and ridiculous. I made a custom Lupin this way using the Vidiyo Wolf head so if they want to do something accurate, that's fine too, although I hate the film werewolf design. I feel that due to the number of parts this might just be the Shack and nothing else. Harry, Ron and Hermione are probably going to be old figures, Sirius may be reused here and in the Dark Tower, so pls pls pls give us a good Lupin, a dog and a new Pettigrew. 76408 - ??? Price sounds like brick built Ron +1, pass if so. Overall I'm really happy with the selection of sets this year! Edited February 21, 2022 by drewdotexe Quote

My main problem with a minifig-scale Hogwarts Quidditch pitch is that I can't really imagine it, compared to a Diagon Alley II or even to a diorama with Hogwarts Express, Ford Anglia and the Viaduct that are something I manage to imagine. Last years I digital designed a possible Quidditch pitch moc (if someone interested, on my Flickr there are other images). It's strongly based on 75956_Quidditch Match, but it's absolutely not complete (no baseplate, no stands behind the goalkeepers area, no minifigures, no objects) and it's not very big nore movie faithfull (only 8 towers, each one with two seats; only 6 stands, each one with 11 seats). Said this, anyway, the building is 60cm long, 44cm wide and 23cm high with 2330 pieces. How big has to be a proper minifig Quidditch pitch stadium ? And consider Diagon Alley is 102cm long, but only 13cm wide. And what about minifigures? Lego would have two main options: represent a single match with 2 full teams (14 minifigures), but it would disappoint some of people (a lot of people if one of the two House excluded would be Ravenclaw) or 4 full teams (28 minifigures). Add Madam Hooch and some specific or generic pubblic, maybe 11 minifigures, and you would have from 25 to 39 minifigures (ok, not so many different torsos, but still a lot of minifigures!). I repeat myself, I can't really imagine this set . Probably LEGO could easily do it, maybe they have already prepared it , but I really find difficult to imagine this set as a real one. The SW D2C & UCS sets are mostly way more than I'm willing to spend on any one Lego set although I'm sorely tempted by the Cantina. Diagon Alley was a stretch but cashing in VIP points really helped. I already got 4 of the 2018 Quidditch set to try to create the whole pitch at some point and I've got enough Gryffindor & Slytherin players. I think I have about half a Hufflepuff team so Ravenclaw is the tough one at this point. If they ever did give us a Quidditch Player accessory pack I'd end up with half of them being a lot of unnecessary extras unless they change the uniforms to the later version once Ron was on the team. I'd prefer just about anything else for the $470 D2C set. Quote

It can still work without her as Hospital Wing for students, but you can’t say the same about cabinet which would be just pointless empty room without professor who could sit there. Reminder that technically all six minifigs in the 2021 AC were exclusives. The one I consider the least exclusive (if that's a thing) amongst them is Harry who appears with a different head piece, and even then the only other version of the minifig is in a very expensive set. So I wouldn't rule out some cool minifigs for this year's AC. I too splashed out for a Madam Malkin's and Pottages MOC, and I haven't even built DA yet. That street is highly captivating. A Horcrux D2C (excellent idea; perhaps including Gryffindor's sword, the Sorting Hat and maybe a Basilisk fang?) seems not unlikely at some point if Icons does well, but the inclusion of Riddle's Diary in that set probably makes it less likely we'd see it this year, aside from having sculptural sets two years in a row. Sirius' Rescue, can't help thinking this set is in part to get us a Sirius and a Buckbeak this round, reducing the number of minifigs we need in the Shrieking Shack set and freeing the inevitable Hagrid's Hut remake up to include Fang and Norbert(a). 47 minutes ago, Textorix said: I don’t remember any Hogwarts set since 2018 that had certain professor’s office, but not have him as minifigure.
