The thresals appear even less that the QWC and look at what’s coming. The Thestrals appear in several extremely important scenes. They are necessary to both the plot and characters. AND so far they've been relegated to $20 sets. The Quidditch World Cup is an intro hook that has little bearing on the rest of the story, and we don't even SEE THE MATCH. If we did, I would at least entertain the idea of getting a smaller QWC pitch down the line, but even that is extremely unlikely thanks to it being skipped in the movie. There is zero chance they'd pick it for the largest HP set ever. Quote
Bugbot20082 Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 (edited) Whomping willow in the SS set for me confirms the warwolf is I included, why else would it be there given how physically far apart they are? Lupin transforms in the Hogwarts grounds under the willow, not in the SS in the film, so they probably have it as a side build to make the figure inclusion make sense. Perhaps the tree is a play feature similar to the rock in the PoTC set ‘Isla de Muerta’ : it spins around to turn one figure into another Edited February 22, 2022 by Bugbot20082 Quote

It would be a good and relevant way to include that features, even if the Willow isn't as good as the old one as a result. Quote

IIRC it wasn’t supposed to have worked very well, but it turned Sirius into the dog and Pettigrew into a rat. It would be a really fun callback to do something like that for the new one, provided it worked. Quote

If it’s 3x plates wide and two storeys high, will it be set out like two halves of courtyard with the tower in between them? I hope the courtyard can connect to the Hospital Wing somehow. Sounds like it might be three stories high. The courtyard / arcade with a width of 24 studs (coincidentally the same width as the hospital wing, so theoretically stackable if it has the proper depth) and then it said there's a two story tower on top of it, which would help with the tower visual otherwise fairly absent. Not sure what they'll do with those 8x8 cubicles, and no information was provided. 16x8 could have made a decent enough common room, 8x8, not so much. Quote

And are symbolic to one of the overarching themes of the entire series??? To say nothing of how they’re enough of a fan favorite to be used as a hook during the opening of Crimes of Grindelwald. 53 minutes ago, Bugbot20082 said: Whomping willow in the SS set for me confirms the warwolf is I included, why else would it be there given how physically far apart they are? The one thing I was worried about was that we wouldn’t get a new werewolf because Lupin doesn’t transform there, but clearly Lego are actively working around that. And the only thing I didn’t like about the transforming box from the original set was that it was a solid block of plastic that didn’t really blend in with anything else, something built in to the Willow or Shack would be perfect. PotterBlocks Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 No idea if someone may have suggested this already but... buildable Hungarian Horntail - Hedwig & Fawkes both came with a minifig-scale version of the animal. Could we see similar with this? Get Harry in his first task outfit, and a mini version of the Horntail to represent the model he pulls out of the bag. That could mean a nice new mould for a small dragon, that could maybe also be reused for Norbert somewhere down the line... Quote

I can’t remember if it’s been specifically mentioned in regards to this set, but I know that the idea has been brought up before. I’m also wondering whether the higher price and the fact that it reportedly doesn’t follow the same format as Hedwig and Fawkes (according to that stonewars article) isn’t a sign that we might get more than one Minifigure. Because the most obvious choice would be first task Harry, with the golden egg if they don’t want to do a new mold, but he was already released in a cheaper set three years ago, so that hardly fits the pattern of including exclusive figs with these sets (and as the closest thing to a ‘remake’ we have this year I can’t really see Lego forgoing an exclusive minifig to entice collectors). Now, a First Task Harry with a new mini dragon mold and an exclusive Barry Crouch Sr. with the sack mold recolored purple, that I can see pulling in collectors to a buildable dragon set that apparently doesn’t have the same wing flapping function as Hedwig and Fawkes. droobles Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 Regarding the idea of Quidditch Pitch D2C, I do see this as iconic enough to be a candidate for a very expensive set. (Although I see it behind Gringotts, Diagon Alley, or Ultimate Hogwarts Express in terms of likelihood for this year) If they did D2C Quidditch, I could see them getting around the lack of four full teams by instead including just 14 players but putting extra torsos of Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff into locker rooms under the stands so you can switch them out if you want. A similar concept, with much was present in the Queer Eye set which had extra torsos and legs and a changing room. If it was a $400+ plus set, that could reasonably command 20 minifigures + 14 extra torsos. Daily Bugle is $300 and has 25 minifigures. Perhaps 7 Gryffindors (Wood, Fred, George, Harry, Alicia, Angelina, and Katie), 7 opponents (Draco, Flint, Cedric, Cho, Slytherin Lucian Bole, Hufflepuff Zacharias Smith, Ravenclaw Roger Davies), Madame Hooch, Lee Jordon, McGonagall, Hermione, Ron, Hagrid. (and still there could be room for a grab bag of more students and professors, but given that Diagon Alley only had 17, I don't see a much higher figure count in this theme.) Of course they could just not do a full team, but if it was an all-out D2C in the style of Diagon Alley I really would expect them to include all the Gryffindors. Obviously Wood and Harry are the most iconic Quidditch players as they have been in previous sets. Next most iconic would be Fred and George. But LEGO does seem to make a point to increase the gender diversity of minifigures, and in the story of the set, someone needs to be throwing the balls through hoops, so I can't see them not including the female Chasers as well. (Insert Name Here) Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 Just saw some other people talking that the Whomping Willow is presumably in the Shrieking Shack set. Makes sense to me, as in PoA you exit through the fountain courtyard, down to the Whomping Willow which its secret passage goes to the Shrieking Shack. I just hope it's a good size enough, as the last one wasn't the best imo. Since I don't find the Shrieking shack to be the most amazing building I don't mind if the set has a good amount of other stuff. Quote

Personally, I’m hoping that the lack of having to make sure a car can be securely balanced in the branches means that, even as a side build, this year’s Whomping Willow will be a bit more menacing than the 2018 one. And since the Shrieking Shack exterior is only ever seen from a distance and it’s ultimately more known for the scene that takes place inside rather than its lovely architecture, I think that lego can get away with a pretty bare bones build for that. The biggest thing is that I don't feel like a D2C Pitch would be as interesting for people to get (though with the number of sports stadiums, who knows at this point). While the Express would be great, it likely wouldn't be that much larger than the one we have - it would just have extra cars, so making a $470 D2C centered around a ~$140 - value train, even with a large station, would be a lot. I’d love a new character like Barty Sr and a new small dragon piece would be even better but I think there’s a much more likely exclusive option - battle-damaged Harry with rips on his robes and scratches on his face. Also I think the news about the Ministry of Magic means we’ve got the best chance so far of getting a Deathly Hallows Gringotts. With how scattered the focus is this year I think Lego could feel happy putting out two big sets to represent two of the most distinctive settings and set pieces from the two Deathly Hallows films. They / the company clearly don’t want to dedicate a whole wave to it and honestly, I can see why when they’d just be representing a lot of intense action sequences without the whimsical magical creatures or pleasant party scenes. There are reasons for Lego not to make a flying motorbike, tent, Malloy manor and the battle of Hogwarts and honestly, gringotts and the ministry would probably be the only deathly hallows sets I would be interested in anyway Quote

This is a really good point I hadn't thought of before. I've always felt like there aren't many scenes from DH1 or DH2 that LEGO would feel comfortable making into sets given the lack of action or that the action is too dark. But being able to pull double duty by having the Ministry of Magic also be a DH1 set and Gringotts be a DH2 set is a brilliant way to adapt scenes from those movies. I also feel like the creative energy behind adapting the wizarding world (as in what becomes LEGO sets and what was chosen for the Harry Potter theme parks at Universal) means that we're more likely to get a Gringotts with an option for displaying the Ironbelly on the roof, which means DH2, too. Micmac Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Stonewars is guessing that the $120 set might be the continuation of the big fig Harry and Hermione and might be Ron and Dumbledore. Sounds plausible as we have a lot of minifig scale sets this year and only the Dragon is different so far. http://itools.com/tool/google-translate-web-page-translator for anyone who doesn't speak German you can use this google tool to translate the whole stonewars web site and not have to translate individual portions of text using normal google translate.
