TurinTheGreat Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I am suprised the Mario movie won't get sets or they are 2023? Quote

Lyichir Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 (edited) Oh, neat! There's a fair number of "repeat" characters in this wave (Kamek, Red Toad, Toadette, Green Yoshi, and Bowser), though that makes sense since many of the sets with those characters got retired at the end of last year. There's still enough "new" here to keep things exciting. The Peach starter set DOES include another Koopaling (Lemmy)! That makes three of them available so far—it's beginning to look like we might really get all of them in time if they keep up at this rate! Cat Peach's suit is just the second power-up designed specifically for a character other than Mario (the first being the Poltergust). It looks like it's even more elaborate than Cat Mario, too—there seem to be paw attachments for the hands! If only we had a Cat Luigi suit to complete the set... Yoshi's House is VERY cute and recognizable from games like Super Mario World. The Goomba's Shoe is also a clever idea for a small set (like the Clown Car from the first half of the year. There's a couple cool new parts visible in some of these, including what looks like a column with a spring in it (for bouncy mushrooms), a beanstalk, a new roof on Peach's Castle, and a 1x2 half-circle jumper on top of those. Portal Out Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I’ve never bought any of the course building sets aside from a few of the character packs, but I seriously can’t pass up that Goomba boot. I’m sold. Quote

Borex Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Great characters, would have loved if they made Bowser a variant. I mean there are just more than one of all those small baddies, but not Bowser. Quote

On the one hand, that would've been neat... but on the other, I get the appeal of wanting to make "classic" Bowser available now that his castle's been retired. Quote
remachinate Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I couldn't believe it about the castle price point! Some of those other sets look great--the Kuribo's shoe and Spike are highlights--but I don't really see the value proposition for the castle. Supposedly the piece count is similar to the airship and bowser's castle, but unlike the previous two big sets, it just seems like a mishmash. The bad guys are just kind of... there, and number of play features/barcodes seems low outside of them. I agree that a Bowser without even even cosmetic alterations--even Goombas get different expressions--feels especially lazy for the most expensive non-D2C to date for this theme. I hope there's some features hiding behind the castle walls we're not seeing. Quote
Surge Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 is it just me or do the paws/hands for cat peach look kinda fuzzy? Quote
Bkidd92 Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I'm hoping the 71410 is series five of the character packs and not another 5.99 one-off like the fuzzy/mushroom, or power shroom sets. We still need baby Yoshis, a Yoshi egg, Subcon, smaller Spike, Phantom, and so many others! I am excited about the frozen tower just because it will be a great expansion for the rest of Peach's castle. Still need Birdo to make an appearance at some point. Quote
The_Fiery_Rooster Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 This is probably the first wave of this theme that feels kind of meh to me, and I think it's because it feels the least 'new' of all the ones we've gotten so far. I don't really care for the Peach starter course since I'm happy with Mario and Luigi and don't really think a third character adds anything. Honestly, I would have much preferred Princess Peach be a character like Toad or E. Gadd than what we got, but I also understand why they went with this route instead. As for the set itself, it feels smaller than the other starter courses for some reason? I appreciate the more elaborate builds, but it feels more like a collection of disparate builds than a small level like the others did. I would have preferred another maker set like last years instead of another starter course. As for the other sets, I love this trend of the small $10 dollar sets, and I hope we get more in the future. The boot is a fun build, and will hopefully have some fun interactions with the characters too. Maybe next year we can get one of the koopa car? (From Super Mario Maker 2) The springy mushroom (Fuzzy and Spike sets) looks interesting, I would like to get my hands on one, but the fuzzy set isn't too interesting and the spike one is pricey, even though Spike himself looks fantastic. The Yoshi set looks fun, I wonder how Yoshi interacts with the fruit, and I appreciate the trend of including suits in bigger sets. but the ice tower doesn't do it for me. Peach's castle looks great, the trapped cake is a fun feature, and with the description mentioning some really cool features (bob-omb painting, Bowser fight, etc) I'm excited to see some different angles and videos of this set. I don't mind the reused characters. They're such classic characters (in the case of Yoshi and Bowser) that I think it's good to give more than one way of getting them, and I think these sets are different enough that it doesn't feel like a complete rehash. So yeah, I guess there's a few things I'm excited for, but not as much as the previous waves. Hopefully the next one can impress me a bit more! Quote

Bkidd92 Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 I feel like they are a bit disjointed with their branding in terms of releasing cohesive collections at the same time. With the exception of the soda jungle sets and Luigi's Mansion, they seem to try and cover multiple bases all at once and seems a little all over the place. We got two very small desert sets a couple years ago and NOTHING else for that biome since. We got the one sky world set (and tbh I still have issues with the scale of that Lakitu), and then nothing until the upcoming sets. They could have done so much more with the beach/water theme, but instead it all seems a little disjointed. Quote

It looks like the new one is made of individual rigid segments like the candle piece, rather than one long rubber hose like previous vine-type pieces! It's certainly an interesting choice, and one that might make this new component useful even for smaller plants like sunflowers. In fact, I can't help but wonder if it might show up in this year's LEGO City Farm sets as well! Quote
TheLegoExperience Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Already glad Peach was added, she’s such an important and it’s good to finally have her (Especially with an outfit of her own!) Now the whole Super Marios 2 roster is finally here. (I’m sure the other playable characters should come as well). Also very glad to get 2 more Koopalings, it felt so weird to only have one for so long. Can’t wait for the rest! I gotta say even if they’re the most common enemy I love the special Goombas in these sets, i.e. Cat Goomba and the one in the cake, too cute! Yoshi’s house being the one at the start of Super Mario World is very very nice. Can’t wait until the D2C announcement is released! I’m so excited for that Quote
strangely Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 I would have preferred Peach as a brick built character, but I'm still okay with what they went with. I like the castle, I just wish it were more complete. The price is too much for me though, I'll probably wait for a sale. Quote

I had only looked at the pictures on Instagram thus far, and the quality wasn't good enough to see the seams. I'll definitely be adding those to my running B&P want list! Quote
Borex Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Please help me remember in what game the princess’ tower is frozen. Or is it just frozen by that Kamek? Also i can’t really make out what is going on in that fuzzy set? i really love the boomerang bro, and most likely we will see a hammer bro in a new wave i guess. come to think of it, Peach was playable for the first time in M3, so i think we really needed a Birdo set, and a set with a mounted Shyguy (on an ostrich <- prince of persia) Quote

The closest I can think of is Super Mario Galaxy, where the surrounding town was attacked and some of the Toads were frozen in crystals. Quote

I know Nintendo shoes away from having anything to do with Wart, but a Wart boss battle with the vegetables coming out of the large tubes would be such a great set, as well as a Phanto mask and key. If they were going to do anything substantial with SMB2 it will be the next wave since when Luigi was released we got the poison pond sets which featured heavily in Super Luigi Wii U and then we got Luigi's Mansion. So SMB2 and 3D World make sense for the waves surrounding Peach. I assume next summer will be a playable Rosalina and then some Mario Galaxy sets? Quote
Portal Out Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 A UPC for set 71412 just popped up for $39.99 and a fall release date. Seems weird that they’d hold back on revealing a single set like that unless it was something special and wasn’t associated with the rest of the wave. The numbering is a bit weird too, since it comes numerically after the D2C (which is 71412). Did anything ever become of that minifigure pack rumor or did it just turn out to be hoax? Quote
