Yes, the dumb hub/battery box has an axle coming out of one switch which is blocked by the slide rail for the side door. The other 2 functions can independantly be reversed via their clucth rings in the gearbox, and the third funcrtion (the blades) has a HI/OFF/LO selecetor again using a clutch ring. Hope this clears everything up. Quote
technicfanatic Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Thank you for posting @LvdH. I'm a bit underwhelmed by the swashplate. As @steph77 mentioned and I agree, and we can now actually see, the pivot sleeve for the swashplate is lacking, allowing it too much freedom, so it looks rather sloppy. It was very useful for me to get a good view of the swashplate mechanism in the video. The build looks to be fantastic however, and I can see this being an extremely popular and iconic set. Quote
thekoRngear Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 As Sariel said and I declare: it's a masterpiece and [arguably] the best TLG Technic that ever [officially] happened in this decade so far. Quote
nerdsforprez Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Day one purchase for me. Excited. I am sure there will be some maj improvements from the AFOL community. Great Review from @Sariel. Though I can't see how resembling the real thing is a problem or weakness (identified "problem" #1). Much like a supercar moving at high speeds, you can't see much steering turn of the front wheels when it navigate corners. Same with the pitch of the rotors moving at high speeds. You really are not going to see the pitch change much. Very clever camera use though (23:53). Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 What a fantastic set. It’s a must buy for me, and it has been a long time since I’ve thought that about a Technic set. The opening engine cowling and fake turbines are the icing on the cake. I would not have expected that in a TLG set. The amount of play in the rotor head and pitch/collective mechanism is a bit of a bummer. I think a lot of that could’ve been resolved with a second mini turntable below the existing one and a longer beam up to the rotor head. Overall, the set is great, and it gives me a renewed confidence in the Technic lineup. Quote

allanp Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Yup! Definitely day one purchase for, I'm glad to see from Sariels review there's no major issues so overall very happy. Of the minor issue he mentioned the biggest for me is the wobblyness. The main rotor shaft in particular is very wobbly. I wonder if the vertical beam that is used for the shaft could be extended down through the turntable and secured at a second point below the turntable. This would make it much better but I wonder if there's room below the turntable for that. Quote

howitzer Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Coooooool. Day 1 purchase indeed. I wonder if the wobbliness and the overall looks could be improved with some recolouring, perhaps making it single- or two-coloured build... I don't particularly care for the neon yellow so perhaps using only red in the tail would allow for more rigid construction? Quote
Polarlicht Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 After seeing Sariels video, i definitely won't getting this set. I really like the new parts and functions, but it really doesn't look great, it's not that big (especially for 210 euros) and too flimsy in lots of places including around the main rotor mechanism thingys... It has a clear view of the pivot sleeve (I thought there wasn't one - there is). I guess the slop comes from two factors The square hole has play to allow the pivot sleeve to slide up and down the mast, but it has too much play The sleeve is designed to rotate with the mast, this prevents building in a constraining slot to prevent the non-rotating (black) swash plate from twisting. I would suggest a slightly different design Use an axle for the mast. Make the pivot sleeve (the ball) non-rotating. It will have a circular, frictionless, slot through which the axle can rotate and slide. Make a non-rotating platform for the ball that can be attached to the fuselage, allowing the ball to move up and down, but not twist. Make the non-rotating plate (black) the inner member and have a slot that keys it to the ball, preventing it from twisting. This design will mimic the bell 206 design without much alteration, and it seems like it can be injection molded at this scale, since it is close to what they already have. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted July 15, 2022 Author Posted July 15, 2022 (edited) Drivetrain of landing gears function Drivetrain of winch function Drivetrain of rotors in slow mode Common gear ratios are (20/16 x (8/24) x (12/20), then x (12/28) for main rotor and x (20/12) for tail rotor. Jundis Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Not an air vehicle guy here: Won't buy it, but I'm impressed with the the density of mechanical solution. This is outstanding and shows that the technic department really cares. Seems like there is at least one big model now every year, that is for Technic enthusiasts :-) Quote
steph77 Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 (edited) I will by this set, or just the swashplate, if avalaible only as i think i have enough parts to build it (with power function) The awaited flaws comes at 19:44 on @sariel's video. The command chain from the cockpit looks ok until it comes in the mixing stage. Results: The cyclic pitch doesn't work that smooth. Looking at the assembly it seems to have place here for some fix/mod to enhance this model. And, also, why replicate the whole set of commands and ignore the tail rotor pitch ???? Ngoc Nguyen Posted July 15, 2022 Author Posted July 15, 2022 Without the engine cowling, the general shape actually looks decent and to scale. Quote

I think much of that might be the heavy use of frictionless pins, which have a lot of slop. Some carefully chosen friction pins thrown in here and there might help a lot with that, which I'm definitely going to try. But yeah, it would be great to not only see much of the sloppyness removed, but also functional tail rotor pitch control in the next big helicopter. Quote
AVCampos Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 An authentic-working tail rotor needs collective control (thankfully no cyclic), so, judging from the size of the mechanism in the collective-only 9396, and unless new specialised moulds are created, a LEGO helicopter with collective tail would have to be huge.
