The color itself bothers me much less than the way it is implemented, just doesn't look right. I do like that many sets this year have many sets with many different parts in the new color, it seems like usually we get a couple of panels and connectors in a new color, not really enough to use, then it is many months, or even years before we get more parts in the new color.

Just tore into bags three, finally all the new parts and I have to say this could possibly be my favorite set of all time, this chopper is leaps and bounds above the last big one, the Heavy Lift helicopter. I am thoroughly enjoying the build process and have a lot of ideas for modding and mocing. Would love to get a second set even, for B models. Of course as with any set there are things I am not happy with, the front landing gear really should pivot.

Sadly with the way prices seem to be constantly spiraling upward, it becomes more difficult to separate me from my money so I am very glad I bit the bullet and bought this set and highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys a challenging Technic build with lots of working features, so many gears, axles and very useful parts.

Back to the build, amazing set, Technic the way it should be, now if we could just get return of the B model, even if it doesn't come with printed instruction book.

That's inspiring. Would be great to see what MOCs and Mods can be done with it.

[If the 1/8 scale supercars excluded] I guess it is the most challenging build since the 42110 Defender set?

And here it is.

For me the color change from neon-yellow to white is a succes.

What a great model! And what a lovely build! The gearbox is great and all the PU-functions work like a charm. Lots of little manual funtctions too.

Certainly the best model of the last 4 years,,,

When you have the control sticks vertical, is the swashplate tilted forwards instead of being horizontal? On mine it is, and I find it odd that no other reviews mentioned it. I checked carefully and could find no build errors from me.

In the reviews where there were closeups of the swashplate operation I could see that the swashplate has limited front/back motion, with a bias towards front, so I'm not surprised you have this.

Mine tilts forwards.

Whiting that part out is truly eyepleasing [despite their potential to becoming yellow in long distant future] rather than doing a yellow/red combo as that is too much reminiscent of 9396 :3 It quickly loses its own visual identity.

A white/red 42145 will turn into a yellow/red 42145 eventually anyway

There was a post on reddit claiming there's an error in the instructions, see https://old.reddit.com/r/legotechnic/comments/wbhitl/i_found_an_error_in_there_instructions_for_the/

I never been much of a fan of the one-part rotors.

So time to build them with parts.

here is another building mistake in the (printed)instruction

Given the fact that they are originally one long piece part does it affect the rotation when in high speed? Btw you can post this mods in the mods and improvement thread.

I did already!

The technic build rotors do not affect the speed. I may stress the PU-engine a little more.

Thanks, then I might lean on it [if I get it] because oh boy that looks so rightfully technic-y.

Did a picture/video review with my small MOD...

Spoiler

Okay. It's not like Racingbrick's or Sariel's but some of my friends think it is brilliant. But what do they know about making movies..

Mine is also tilted too far forwards. When you push the cyclic all the way forwards the mechanism begins to bind. Is it confirmed that this is an error (either on TLGs part or my own) or a "feature"?

Just finished bag four. There has been two apparently missing pieces, the flex-axle in the cockpit window and one LBG 3L beam. I replaced them from my collection for now but will finish the build and then clean my workplace and see if they turn up. I wonder though, was the flex-axle supposed to be in a plastic bag along with the other parts, or was it loose in the box? Or maybe inside the cardboard sleeve with the instructions?

I also decided to go for the neon yellow -> white colour replacement, though I don't have the 3x7 panel in white so I opted for black instead with it.

Missing parts notwithstanding, I must say this is set great mechanical porn for me. Just look at these gears:

it was in the bag of the rotor blades.

Yeah, I found it there when I finished the build, should've checked immediately :wall:

Still didn't find the other part though, but I don't think I can be bothered to call support for it either...

I am finishing bag 2 I believe.  So, at the front of the cabin, where the red 3L liftarm meets the black 7L liftarm is not a real connection?  It is simply an illegal connection, that since it does not match up has the flex-axle going through?  Must say, that is odd.  However, at least at this juncture things seem pretty robust.

Agree with what has been said by others, this is a wonderful model and fun to build.  I have colored the hideous gear colors and replaced color vomit as much as I can, and despite that boring, tedious process am still very much enjoying the build.  I will post pics later....

It is indeed an illegal connection. I had trouble modeling that part when I built the model in Studio.

In the end, I had to nudge the 7L liftarm up and the 3L liftarm down for an intersection of half a pin hole to form.
