I wonder if part of the reason for the rumored downsizing of the Liebherr was feedback from the CAT bulldozer. Some fans found that the CAT was somewhat oversized for the functions, as MOCs with similar functionality have been built using just the 5-wide tracks. So maybe TLG thought that bigger isn't always better and decided to downsize the Liebherr accordingly. That theory doesn't explain the price staying the same though :sadnew:.

Yeah, that is a possible reason. But check out the 2023 sets discussion, the price has been raised to 680€!

According to:

680$... xD I am sorry, I have no idea how to comment on this. I have no idea how many hubs, engines and new pieces it would have to have for me to even consider buying this for more than ~50% of RRP.

Besides me falling into the no-way-i-will-buy-this-set-for-even-half-of-the-RRP category, I'm just curious about how Lego has arrived to that point. Let's see what's inside the box! (Maybe a check for the 20 eur difference?)

Market analyses, testing balloons (maybe several of those were seen across the US lately? Well, some were simply shot down :pir-skel:).

Clearly ahead: $999 and then: Braking thousenic barrier, wait for the boom!

Best and Happy Easter time,
Thorsten

Another set I will not buy. I bought ALL flagships (and then some) from 2008, until CAT, which in my opinion offered too little fo it's money (and I still have 8275 for my bulldozing needs). I was looking forward to another good Technic flagship, but this doesnt seem to be promising. Smaller set for more money? It really looks like they are testing boundaries of where they could go with us.

Nevertheless, is true that we all hard similar comments when the CAT D11 was about to be released... And at the end it was sold relatively well, I think.

So... Wait for it.

Maybe, but I bought CAT D11 for about 325 Euro, new, from the shop. More parts, half of the money. So we will see how hard TLG wants to cheat us with this one.

Yes, I got mine by the usual way: second hand. 180 eur that worth the set itself and all the new pieces. Although I was really surprised for how fun was the assembling process, I wouldn't never pay the RRP.

The thing that intrigues me indeed is that we're getting closer and closer to the moment on which a set may cost similar to the separated parts. Nevertheless, as said before, let's see what's in the box.

In my case, if the price comes because a lot of motors or hubs... I already have what I need, thanks.

The high price is most likely, similar to 4+ sets, due to the development and production of large specialized pieces and the new weight elements, together with the overpriced Control+ system and ridiculous amounts of marketing materials + licensing fees. Remember that the Liebherr Excavator was also much too expensive and since then we had two price increases with a third one already rolled out.

When this set was first talked about I wanted to buy 2 so I could combine them… now I don’t know that I want to buy 1 at that price point… $680 for a sub 3k piece count set is crazy to me. LEGO prices are getting out of hand.

Hopefully these “leaks” are not true and we can buy these without selling a kidney.

Been many years since I ventured into Technic land and I had intended to get this set... That intent is definitely being rethought if these leaks are true. $680 is an awful lot of money for not that much of a set.

We shall see I guess.

I can almost guarantee this set wont cost that much. We get tons of leaks every year of prices and models and in the end many have been wrong. Of course every youtuber and content creator will post these as facts asap to increase views. I still see a few sites that have this set listed at 599.99. Of course those sites could be wrong too. But a nearly 700 technic set with less than 3k parts I feel is very unlikely.

it better have them lol !

I bet so. Because where else Lego would use them? Perhaps different color?
About the money...I´m wondering what will be in. Brick-wise it is not so great number, so perhaps functions and motors?

I'm not so sure, only a guess but even at 1 - 1.5 meters I feel like the 5 wide tracks would be in scale but that's only a guess. I also wonder if the off-centre ridge on the cat d11 tracks would lead to clunky operation under very heavy loads. I have a feeling that the crane will be at least 50% heavier than the cat, maybe even double the weight, without it's 500g Payload, with a smaller area in contact with the ground.

How do you figure it will be so much heavier?  Its not like the Cat is lacking in motors (4) and it has almost 2000 pieces more (proposed) than the Liebherr?  Are you counting the counter balance weight?

The more I think about this set the more I think much of the cost has to be attributed to the counterbalanced weights (likely new pieces) and whatever is used for the main boom and possible lattice boom sections of the crane.

I think this is very unfortunate b/c weight is something so easy to reproduce w/o relying on new expensive elements.  I am excited for whatever is proposed for the main sections of the boom and lattice though.  If new elements entirely I hope they become available on Bricks and Pieces after some time for a decent price.  Perhaps it will be feasible to recreate the build w/o the expensive new weight pieces using older, less expensive electronics (perhaps even PF).  I would be interested in that.  B/c like others have said, I also was interested in perhaps buying two of these sets and combining them into one huge one... but not now with the price point +600 USD.

I know this is a minor gripe in the great scheme of things but I can see another problem besides the rumoured otherworldly price. I display my models on shelves, I don’t have anywhere else, and with the finished model said to be 1m+ high I’m going to have nowhere to put it. I can’t be alone in this. A good many of you probably do the same, some display in cabinets. Either way, and I may be wrong, I think the height will put some people off. Just my two pennies worth.

You are right. Actually, this was the same problem with the Eiffel Tower, though it has an even bigger footprint than the Liebherr.

Yeah I'm thinking of the counterweights, likely 2 hubs and large truss pieces, and also the price, as price per kg is more accurate than price per part, I'm thinking that an expensive set also means a heavy set, even more so if the weight is inflated with counterweights. It will be interesting to see how price per kg is affected by counterweights.
