Kelkschiz Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Just a silly question. Does anyone know what happened to the 21980 motor? Several months ago I ordered some from LEGO.com, but now I need more and I can't find them anymore. Not even as a discontinued product. Has anyone seen any official news about this perhaps? I am not as up-to-date on LEGO news as I once was. Thanks in advance. Kelk Quote
Void_S Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 There were some rumors it is going to be possibly replaced... The currently prodused set 42129 Zetros uses this motor amon other modern-PU ones, and now, since the set is under review-redesign to add srews to the battery Block lid locks, this motor may be replaced too. Possibly, it may have a single (unknown for me) reason. Quote

Possibly, it may have a single (unknown for me) reason. I don't think the Medium motor will be replaced in the set. The updated BI and Bricks & Pieces both show the current motor with the 6290182 ID. PU motors (and even Control+ sets) have a tendency to vanish from lego.com for days or even weeks. Not sure if it is related to the production shortage, but apparently TLG prefers to simply pull them instead of showing everything as out of stock. 42124 disappeared for weeks last year, also the dump PU battery box, both came back after a while. The status and visibility might also change from region to region. 45303 is currently shown as retired btw in the US shop (and some other regions), but even this does not mean anything nowadays. The Zetros was in retired status for weeks in December/January in the central European countries, now it's available again. I don't say the Simple Medium Linear Motor won't change for sure and it will stay, but at this point it's virtually impossible to get a 100% accurate information from anyone about it. Customer Service only says what they see in the system, they don't have more information either. Quote
amorti Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 Would be great if it could be on vacation to grow a position sensor. Could be very useful for steering then. Quote

Kelkschiz Posted January 31, 2022 Author Posted January 31, 2022 (edited) Thanks all for your contributions. Enlightening stuff. It's a shame that TLG is so stingy with giving out information regarding the supply status of its products. This is rather important data for me. Edited January 31, 2022 by Kelkschiz Quote

vascolp Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 A bit off topic but... I went to see what was happening with this motor in LEGO Buy Bricks 42129 Zetros... nothing special about the motor (out of stock...) but... 42129 Zetros now has two battery boxes! The same with 42124.... but not with 42109. I didn´t check other sets. Screw stuff probably! Quote
