mcphatty Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 (edited) I really like the 75312 Slave 1 set, it's a wonderfully compact set and a really fun and interesting build, and it got me thinking about doing a midi-scale ship of my own. Last year I scratched tried a few ways to display my Rebels figures with my micro Ghost but had limited success with box photo frames, so I decided to have a go at a midi Ghost to go on my shelf next to Slave 1. Using Studio I started this Ghost to fit around Hera, Ezra and Zeb, using the rounded and bubble canopies early on to fully enclose them. I tried to make the rest of the ship as small as possible without being too strict with proportions, the engines and cockpit look slightly oversized but hopefully in a cute, cartoonish kind of way. The interior space is very limited but all the crew fit inside and the build is extremely strong, grabbable by small hands and surprisingly good for swooshing around! I've included both the Phantoms roughly in proportion to the rest of the ship, they appear whole but have a removable sections to become like microfighters for Chopper. Overall the Ghost is a 27cm long, 21cm wide and weighs 695g. I've put together some instructions on Rebrickable, all the parts are common and with both Phantoms and a stand the cost is about £85 for 953 pieces. https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-100661/ron_mcphatty/midi-ghost-phantom And just to give you a sense of the size here she is next to Slave 1… Edited to add new photos. I hope you enjoy this little build, it was a lot of fun to work on! Edited June 18, 2022 by mcphatty Quote
Bricktastrophe Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Mate this looks fantastic. I never new I wanted a small-scale Phantom but now I do!. I saw your photos on Instagram; How do you fit Chopper in? Quote
khatmorg Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I really dig the midi-scale concept. The edges of the triangle shapes look a bit rough but everything else is spot on! I hope TLG doesn't stop at Slave 1 with the midi builds. Quote
mcphatty Posted February 14, 2022 Author Posted February 14, 2022 @Bricktastrophe thanks! I’ll upload more pictures hopefully this week to show you the inside, there’s space for Chopper either in the Phantom (a section pulls out) or in the cargo bay. @khatmorg yeah the sloping areas aren’t great, I’ll work on filling those gaps. And me too, the more midi ships we get the better. Quote
mcphatty Posted April 15, 2022 Author Posted April 15, 2022 (edited) Just thought I’d share another midi-scale ship on here, since I don’t think I’ll have time to take photos for another week. It’s about 27cm long (22 without the guns), 560 pieces and costs about £40, all parts are common. I’ve tried to make it solid enough to be played with and has a few play features like opening doors, space for 6 figures and a very tiny BARC speeder! Instructions are on Rebrickable… https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-107732/ron_mcphatty/midi-republic-gunship Edited June 18, 2022 by mcphatty Quote
mcphatty Posted February 11, 2023 Author Posted February 11, 2023 (edited) I've been messing around with my Lego in front of my TV. Lighting these shots from the front is proving to be tricky, I think it might be time to invest in an RGB app-controlled light bulb. I'm having fun learning though and it's nice to be taking a break from Studio. Edited February 11, 2023 by mcphatty Quote
Brickshipyard Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Hey mcphatty I love your Ghost and the updated photos! Jedi training in the clouds :). As a SW fan, naturally I get Bespin Cloud city vibes. Quote
jimmynick Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I love the new pics! What a cute MOC, and the hexagonal shape looks practically perfect with the wedge plates attached on clips Quote
