Megbricks Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Hey i have been reading about TMNT and i was wondering if Lego still had the license for some of the toys. anyone knows? A new movie is coming out in 2022 or 2023 apparently. No idea if they sold well before and if it would be a possibility to see some more TMNT stuff from Lego… I’d sure be happy to have some new sets! Maple Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 It was Mega Blocks after LEGO went 'Screw this theme'. I don't think LEGO would want the theme back, it didn't sell well at all. However I do love the turtle sub LEGO made, that set is great. Quote

TurinTheGreat Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 I hope the theme will return in 2023 with the movie! I hardly find it as a failure, the line had like 3 waves from 2012 to 2014,I kind of think when they got to the Bay Turtles Nick moved the license to Mega because they were not pleased with Lego, they already moved Spongebob there and they had Dora the Explorer so it was a matter of time. But now I can see Lego, if they makea new deal with Paramount they could release this, and hopefully TLA sets too. Quote

That's how they got TMNT, Spongebob and everything else. Quote

From what I know, Nick wasn't happy with Lego's performance. Lego and Nick made a deal which included multiple brands such as TMNT and Spongebob. The contract expired and Nick moved it to Mega as they wanted the license. If the theme was such a flop for Lego they wouldn't have gotten to the 2014 wave. It's clear if something fails Lego will straight up cancel it, such as Vidyio or whatver that was. It's like when Blizzard and Lego were in talks for the Warcraft license and Lego didn't want to make molded heads for all the characters so Blizzard gavr it to Mega. Of course, things changed since then, now Lego is the leading construxtion toy brand, even Hasbro, according to reliable rumours, want to work with them. Doesn't mean we will get TMNT in 2023, but we shouldn't rule it out. Quote

Just because a theme, like TMNT didn't sell well doesn't mean LEGO outright cancels a theme. That's incredibly rare thing to do that I can only think of happening twice (Vidiyo and Alien Conquest) because of time invested in it. I'd love to know where you got this info on LEGO Warcraft 'news'. LEGO has made molded heads for decades, just look at Spongebob in 2007. Quote

I read the TMNT info in forums long ago, meanwhile for Warcraft i think I read it here once and somewhere else, long ago. Quote
Sunroom Bricks Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 I'm predicting Turtle Mania 2 with the 2023 movie by Seth Rogen. LEGO would be wise to get the rights back to TMNT. Also, Nickelodeon's corporate structure might be different these days under the Paramount flag. LEGO came out with a Sonic set this year. Those movies are distributed by Paramount. So maybe there's hope for TMNT LEGO to return? Quote
