Jumhansen Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 Hey everyone. Today it´s again stormy an rainy on this sunday afternoon. So i decided to build something with "wind". Just put some parts together, as a proof of concept. Unfortunately i don´t have any propeller in stock. I toke 4 Panels Nr. 5 to build a propeller, but it can only drive forwards. ;-) I think i will keep this idea in mind for a boat project next pool season. 1x Buwizz 2.0 1x Buggymotor, gear up 3:1 1x Servomotor Video: Have fun. Davidz90 Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) Wow, these panels make a surprisingly efficient propellers! I wonder how well lego sails (for example from 42074 racing yacht) would work. It's also interesting that the angle of attack seems to be the most efficient for medium speeds - at the start the car is a bit sluggish, but as it picks up some speed, the acceleration improves. At least it looks like it on the video. Edited February 20, 2022 by Davidz90 Quote
Jumhansen Posted February 20, 2022 Author Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) @Davidz90, i also was very surprised that this small sunday afternoon moc performed so nice, so i made a short video, quick and dirty. But there were only a few Lego parts installed. Wait, i´ll quickly go to the kitchen to weigh it: Weight is ~440 gr with fully loaded buwizz. Your are right, the acceleration improves when it picks up some speed, but i have also switched from "fast to ludicrous" mode. My next thought was to build a ring, surrounding the propeller, to improve the airflow and speed ! Something like this: My Wife said: This will also provide damages to the furniture. OKAY I call that a real "win - win situation" ! More performance, perhaps, more safety sure. Have fun ! Johan Edited February 21, 2022 by Jumhansen Quote
aFrInaTi0n Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 Haha, nice one - did not expect it to get that much velocity in the end. So next up is an Brickbuild Hovercraft? :D Quote
Davidz90 Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 Nice idea with the ring, definitely good for safety, although it needs to be very close to the propeller tip to provide measurable performance gains. Quote
iLego Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 Never imagined this kind of setup will provide so much propulsion. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Jurss Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 These panels work really well. I don't think, that any original propeller would be close in performance. OK, there is something but this is pretty large already. Better for some lego fan. Maybe this All others seems too small or flat. Maybe add some small panels where are those 3 pinholes. Quote
Jumhansen Posted February 21, 2022 Author Posted February 21, 2022 @Jurss the white blade i have seen on rebrickable but it seems to be an expensive part and maybe a little bit to big. We will see. Johan Quote
Jumhansen Posted February 25, 2022 Author Posted February 25, 2022 (edited) @Jurss Propeller with Partnumber 89509 arrived today. Found nothing on bricklink in germany. So i bought a whole new set 45400 . We`ll see what happens. Johan Edited February 25, 2022 by Jumhansen Quote
Tazmancrash Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Have you looked at the prop from 8855 prop plane? Quote
Jumhansen Posted February 26, 2022 Author Posted February 26, 2022 @Tazmancrash this prop looks nice, maybe a little bit too small for my project. Johan Quote
