Posted February 20, 20223 yr S/Y Joseph Conrad is a steel-hulled two-masted (ketch) ocean yacht of the J-140 type, built in 1958 in Poland at the Gdańsk Shipyard. Its dimensions are 18 meters long and 4 meters wide, and the sail area is 144 m2 - hence this type of yacht (six of them were built) is commonly called „hundred-fourty". A crew of twelve gets on board. Thanks to its dimensions and low side, the yacht is beautifully slender and sailing it, due to the proximity of the water and exceptional bravery in difficult conditions, is a lot of fun. I had the great pleasure of sailing it in the turbulent waters of the Baltic Sea and the Kattegat on the route Gdańsk - Oslo - Aarchus in 2013. Unfortunately, the yacht has not been sailing for several years now, due to its poor technical condition - the last time I saw it in 2021 was moored somewhere on the Martwa Wisła (Gdańsk - Poland) unmarked.
