Mandalorianknight Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 (edited) WISHLIST MOC WAVE! After an unacceptably long amount of time due to college applications, school, and my love of procrastination, the wishlist moc wave is here! Created in the future star wars sets thread with the aid of members such as @Brickroll, @Per_SW, @PRbrickbuilder, @Redroe, and @Agent Kallus (sorry I wasn't able to get an Umbaran starfighter completed), this wave was made over the course of 4 months and had some of the most challenging, but also rewarding, models I've ever designed. I think I've bought the parts for more of these than any other wave I've done, and I would buy parts for the two biggest if I had the cash. Anyway, here's the list. Images are in the spoilers so they don't take up too much space. To those of you that gave suggestions and helped me figure out which sets to do, sorry it took so long, I hope it was worth the wait: POLYBAG: Vision of the Ninth Jedi, 74 pieces Spoiler I do not generally like anime and couldn't get through all of visions, but I liked the ninth jedi short quite a bit. It was an interesting alternate universe take, and I thought the protagonist Kara was essentially just a better version of Rey. Here I've made a polybag with her speeder and the lightsabers that are so crucial to the plot, complete with extra blades to represent how the color changes based on the emotions of the user. Kara's little droid buddy is in the back of the speeder. This was a simple one, but I wanted to represent the show somehow. Microfighers: Slave One, 101 pieces Spoiler I still can't believe we haven't had this ship in microfighter form yet. It's a pretty standard set (that's TBoBF Boba, by the way). It's got your stud shooters and your folding wings. Not much to say. TIE Fighter, also 101 pieces Spoiler Another fighter that's straightforward but seriously how have we not had it yet? It's one of the top 3 most well-known vehicles in Star Wars. It's got the flick missiles and uses the standard TIE microfighter core I've used for the TIE outlander microfighter. AT-ST vs Ewok Glider dual pack, 198 pieces Spoiler Ok, I get creativity points for this, right? I really like how the glider turned out, and the AT-ST is fine, but I love the "eyes" on it. The glider has some rock drop shooters. Battle Packs: Droid battle pack, 151 pieces Spoiler Piece count is a little high, but the battle droid usually "counts" less than a normal figure, so that's my excuse. I like how the droid turned out enough that I made a little turret with a stud shooter rather than bludgeon the crab droid by adding them. Endor Rebels, 103 parts Spoiler By the way, you like how I get around the ewok part not existing in stud.io? Anyway, build is a catapult and a tree with a little "play feature" where you can brush aside the leaves to reveal a trooper. Duel that I retroactively made a qoutes set: Reactor duel, 200 pieces Spoiler This was originally just a duel set that retroactively became a qoutes set "I have nothing left to fear", maybe "there are some things worse than death". It's an emotional moment from the show and lends itself well to a duel set. Might be a little dark, but hey, they've done darker. Actual full system sets: Kamino Laboratory, 294 pieces Spoiler First off I totally copied like 50% of that AZ-3 from someone and then couldn't find the guy, so I can't even credit them. Just know it wasn't fully my design. It's got the 5 canisters for the batch, it's got the sliding door, and the sliding gun rack that knocks out an elite trooper. Comes with an elite trooper, Hunter, and Omega. Tallie's A-wing, 317 pieces Spoiler This started out as just a mod of the A-wing I made in 2020, but then I had to completely re-do it since it turns out the entire shaping is slightly different. It's alright, not my best set but not my worst. Comes with Poe, Tallie, and a first order trooper. Qoutes set: Tatooine sunset, 223 pieces Spoiler Qoute: "I am a jedi, like my father before me". This is also one I physically built, though I have to figure out how to do the qoute for the 2x6 tile. I feel like this is one of the most iconic scenes in the saga. It's got the little outcropping luke stands on, and it has a bit of storage in the back for the figures you aren't using. It comes with EP2 anakin, EP4 Luke, and EP9 Rey, and you can put one looking at the sunset with the other two stored in the hut. Wheel Bike Chase, 537 pieces Spoiler HOLD ON LET ME EXPLAIN!!! Ideally boga would use the molded head used for some of the dragons in the harry potter sets with parts for his frills. It doesn't exist in bricklink, so I have this nightmare fuel head as a stand in. Ok so we've got Boga and we've got the wheel bike. I quite like the bike, not a fan of Boga as much, I'm not good at organic creatures. It'd come with grievous, a magnaguard, airborne trooper, Obi-wan, and Cody, who I understand to have become some sort of jesus-like figure based on the requests to include him in every set ever released by lego? B-wing, 687 pieces Spoiler I really liked this one and physically built it. It's not as stable as I would have hoped but it's not exactly gonna shatter upon a kid holding it either. It's got a hastily added spring shooter, it's got the wings (using my style for the a-wing wings, actually), it's got the gravity cockpit, all the b-wing stuff. Figures are Ten Numb, a B-wing pilot, Madine, Riekan, and an endor trooper. Yavin Temple, 1420 pieces Spoiler This is the biggest one, but I'm saving the AT-TE for last because I think the AT-TE is a better set overall. Not that this one's bad, but it's pretty basic. It's got the midi-scale x-wing to make it more "exciting" for the hypothetical children that would buy the hypothetical set. It's got the little watchpost, the briefing room, throne room, and on the bottom floor some crates and weapons racks and a sliding door and more of that generic SW stuff. It's also got the little cart. Comes with *breathes in* 2royalguards2fleettroopers2rebelcrewwedgeantillesfakewedgegeneraldodannaprincessleiahansololukeskywalkerandr2d2. *exhales* Finally, the one I spend legitimately like 9 hours on, the AT-TE, clocking in at 1279 pieces Spoiler This is by far my favorite one. It does take some pointers from the 2013 one in regards to how the legs are able to hold it up, but I think especially in regards to the core and paneling I made some big changes and it's wholly it's own model. There's the spring shooters on the bottom, some UCS AT-AT style seating for 12 troops alongside the 2 cockpit seats and top gunner seat. I think if you wanted to really cram em in you could probably fit the full 20 passengers it's supposed to have in-universe. It's got the little handle, it's got the top gun, etc. This one is pretty dang expensive but I'll be getting the physical parts as soon as it's financially viable. Figures are 4x clone trooper, a clone captain, padawan anakin, obi-wan, and dooku. So that's it. Hope it was worth a look from you guys. Let me know what you think of them, any suggestions you have for future sets, yell at me for the lost sleep you have over the atrocity that is my build for boga's head, etc. Though those suggestions for future models may be a bit far out, I have some non-star wars mocs I want to make first. (A Dune ornithopter, an Ideas attempt, and a Daredevil 18+ set.) Edited February 28, 2022 by Mandalorianknight Quote
PsychoBuilder Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 Ahhh, excellent work @Mandalorianknight, most excellent. Well worth the wait—that B wing and a wing are absolutely fantastic. Quote
MAVERICK26 Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 I have been waiting for this day for a long time... Excellent work @Mandalorianknight! The AT - TE and A - wing look great. Most impressive. Quote
Mandalorianknight Posted March 3, 2022 Author Posted March 3, 2022 Thank both of you so much, it's great to see people like these. It really does mean a lot to me to know other people think these are good. On 2/28/2022 at 1:54 PM, MAVERICK26 said: I have been waiting for this day for a long time... The B-wing was a lot of fun, but it's got some stability issues now that I've physically built it, so I'm working on a v2. The A-wing seems to be a hit, I honestly wasn't expecting that! Quote
Agent Kallus Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 They look great, worth the wait. I don't blame you for not doing the Umbaran Starfighter I was never happy with my own attempts, given its curves it might be the sort of thing that's easier to do Irl. I think my favourite thing is the crab droid, I would probably pick up all these sets (budget depending) if they were real, well except for the A-wing, not that it's a bad design but I have the rebels one and it's not my favourite ship anyway. Talking of droids that b1 head on grevious reminds of when I bought his Starfighter from bricklink and the seller had given grevious a b1 head and not grevious' actual head. Quote
PRbrickbuilder Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Outstanding MOCs, @Mandalorianknight!!!!!!This looks like a dream wave! - Both microfighters are great! I like how the Slave 1 still has gravity adjusting wings; - I like how the stud shooters in the AT-ST vs Glider are cleverly integrated; - Is the B-wing main wing tiled on both sides? Nice! - The Yavin temple is great! Another type of set I wish LEGO releases someday! - Using the dragon head piece for Boga is a great idea! Lego really should adhere to these concept for creatures. It would enable a Bantha (just a head mold + brick built body). All of these sets would sell like hotcakes, actually! Quote
Redroe Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Nice B wing, great downsized X wing. Good idea using the dragon head for a brick built Boga. I have the old head from 2015 but it's not a great part tbh. There is a Slave 1 microfighter! It was a convention exclusive I think? Possibly from before the term microfighter had even been coined? Ironically there was a matching sith Inflitrator, which has since been remade commercially. Quote

I think there was also a ghost with chopper and oddly enough, jek-14's interceptor with jek-14. Looking this up I found that the figure is super expensive, which is confusing as he's not in canon or legends. The B-wing is tiled on the bottom wing to the same extent as the top wing-antistuds show on the 3x12 wedges, but not much over the rest of that wing. I agree that we totally need a yavin set eventually, the closest we've gotten is about 6 pieces as a side build in a juniors set. Yeah, it's something that'd be much harder to do on stud.io, which has some issues with which curves and hinge angles are possible in reality. The crab droid was I think the first one I did, and one of my favorites. The A-wing is definately a weaker one, I think the wings are too thick. Hope you got some money back for that bricklink thing, that sucks. Quote
Per_SW Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Hello there! I'm a bit late to the party, but still wanted to congratulate you on a job well done, the whole wave is terrific. Here's some scattered comments - My favorite by far is the AT-TE, even if it looks a bit shorter than what I'm used to the fact that it has a functional interior is a wonder on its own. - That Crab Droid makes me want to buy multiple of them, and its scale brings me back to 2005 and the ROTS tie-in videogame. - Good job on the microfighters, in particular that ewok glider and the wing mechanism on the Slave I Boba Fett's Starship. I also like how the guns are on technic pins and could also be moved to the landed position. - The midi-X-Wing in the temple set makes me think of the original 1999 one and the whole set is a good compromise without having to go to MBS scale. - Uncertain on the ball joints for the B-Wing, but from what I can see it doesn't seem there could have been another solution, that said the rest of the ship looks perfect. - The duel makes me wish for a return of Rebels sets and the Wheelbike chase goes perfectly with the droid BP (and makes me feel stupid for not caving in and buy the overpriced Mace+Grievous set from a couple of years back, since I don't know when we will see him again in a low-price point set). Again, kudos for the wave, the wait has definitely been worth it. Quote
Kenobi-X-Grievous-Shipper Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Love these, you even did a Kenobi and Grevious set Quote

The AT-TE was a beast to make, I'll be sure to update this thread once I have the physical model built. The ball joints on the B-wing were definately not the best solution, but...yeah there's no but, I can already think of a better way. Welp, I have to update the model anyway given the physical build ended up being a little different. The x-wing's reference to the 1999 design was completely intentional, I actually had that next to me while making it for sizing reasons. 2 hours ago, Kenobi-X-Grievous-Shipper said: Love these, you even did a Kenobi and Grevious set Your username makes me a little concerned (I'm sure it's a joke), but I thank you nonetheless! Wolfpackfan99 Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 (edited) I’ve been having nightmares for days after seeing the boga head. It’s always the one where general grievous has his head replaced by the boga head, and then starts making the weird boga ROTS sound effects, as he’s chasing me around. Then after that, I wake up in my bed, and Kit Fisto says “Hey babe, did you have a bad dream?” And that is when I actually wake up, and start screaming. Edited March 14, 2022 by Wolfpackfan99 Quote
