Yeah the problem with the bardings is that they don't allow the newer horse to move.

Are you sure? I can not check it right now, but found the following statement regarding the "new" horse:

"Comments below from LEGO Senior Creative Designer Matt Ashton, posted on the LEGO Ambassador Forum :

"Our core target audience of 5-10 year old boys has told us in ongoing testing that the original LEGO horse is a bit ‘baby-ish’, and too static to play with properly. So we’ve re-designed the LEGO horse to make it more dynamic, pose-able and appealing by adding a higher level of detail. The new horse will appear in the LEGO Lord of the Rings sets will be released in June 2012.

"The new horse can now kick, bolt and rear up on its hind legs, making it much more playable and pose-able, while the refined detail level has also made it seem more ‘grown-up’ and ‘cooler’ in kids’ eyes.

"In making these changes we have obviously had to take into consideration several different challenges.

"First, we are fully aware that the ‘original’ horse may be perceived as a LEGO icon in many consumers’ eyes. So, when designing the new horse, we did our best to create a new version that pays homage to the original horse, particularly its proportions, silhouette and decoration style.

"Second, we have made some design choices in regards to the compatibility between the ‘new’ horse and the existing horse accessories. The existing saddle element can be used with the new version of the horse. The new horse can also wear the current barding, although it cannot be posed while wearing this element. We will be developing a replacement barding for future product launches, ensuring that the horse can be dressed for battle and still be fully pose-able.

However, by streamlining the new horse’s head to make it more dynamic and more like a ‘real’ horse, we had to decide that the existing horse headgear/head plates would not compatible with the new horse. These pieces will also soon be replaced with new elements in future products.

"We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this may cause to certain collectors, but we are striving to ensure that we are ultimately creating the best product and play experience for our core audience for the long term.

Matt Ashton, Senior Creative Director, LEGO Group""

I remember my brother got 6085: Black Monarch's Castle when we where young for his birthday and 2 of the horses had barding and that sure was something else compared to other knights on horse back then, so would be great if we get some in this set :excited:

I have been wondienrg about Madam Pomfrey’s headdress would be recolored for this set.

But then I realizeed, we haven’t seen Fairytale Princess (from CMF Series 12)’s headdress for long time since it was released. I think that headdress is a great piece for young princess. Ideally, it would recolored.

Also, we have Queen from CMF Series 17. I also wonder if that dress part wold appear again for this queen. I doubt she would sit down in her throne or carriage with that “stiff” dress part.

Well now….that’s interesting isn’t it? I’m leaning towards doubting it as the 90th anniversary set due to the original 6080 just plugged into the front of along with the windmill for the MVR and medieval castle making up portions of the scene.

Side note, I’d also be very disappointed if the minifigs are just old lion knights.  I don’t think that’s the case, but wanted to point that out.

I thought the same thing when I watched that this morning. Intriguing.

I would not be surprised if this was the actual castle coming out. If so, this is super exciting to me, as it looks like a nice homage to the original!

The other pics also show a windmill and the figs are the old knights and some with the printed on breast plate armor.  This would be interesting.  But it just may be all for the back to the future and not have anything to do with the 90th anniversary set.

The old barding. The new barding released a year after this quote you can. It's literally on the box art from the 2013 castle sets.

Yeah that's only one barding all the rest do no allow for that.  They've only made that one so far.  It would be nice to have more.  I have several of the old bardings and only one of the new one.

Shot from a low angle like that it's hard to tell what that castle actually looks like ... I'm leaning towards this not being the 90th anniversary set, because as others have pointed out it looks like a tower from the 31120 Medieval Castle and the windmill from the Mill Village Raid are included too.  Those steps and trees are certainly new though, so it's possible that the new castle would have those features.  Hard to tell about the size of the castle in the video, I'm not sure if it looks like a $350 build or a $500 build.

I have to agree with you.  Also I think it's too soon to reveal the 90th anniversary set.  The castle in the video is interesting though but I don't think that's whats coming in August.

There is also a lion version so two designs, same mold. Yes they were very stingy putting just one per set, and the lion knights version in the biggest set. It would be nice if we got four barded knights in this set but even that would only be a little less of a price per knight ratio than the 2013 castle.

Yeah I only have the dragon knight barding.  I got a bunch of the smaller sets from 2013 castle when toys r us was still around and especially when they had the buy one get one sales.   I just hope the figs are nice and the castle is has some great features.

LEGO-Brick-to-the-Future-Castle-featured

The right side of the front gate in this image is two large old-school window piece side-by-side. Left bottom corner is literally 3 angle pieces one on top of another. The medieval castle is good for $99, but for the $350 set to look like it is just lazy. (Many people wouldn't buy 3 sets of the 31220, if this is essentially 3.5 sets of the medieval castle, that's just weak.)  I just can't imagine the final product being so sloppy and weak. This can't be it.

If it is, for $350, I think I'll pass. I can build something better from pieces on bricklink with $350.

$350 is not pocket change.

I honestly think this could be it, I don’t know where else this render could have come from unless it’s an actual set or something they mocked up just for this one video.

Anyway, I wasn’t even born yet when those original Classic Castle/Pirates/Space sets were out, but I still enjoy seeing it when Lego pays tribute to those themes with more modern minifigures, pieces and building techniques. That’s why I own Barracuda Bay, Benny’s Spaceship, Benny’s Space Squad and the Ideas Exo Suit. I think this set will turn out amazing like these other ones I mentioned. I just want a big, detailed version of an old-school Lego Castle with tons of minifigs to boot. I probably won’t get it for a couple years though, I have a lot of big sets on my shopping list already and just bought a big Castle: the Disney one.

I’m envisioning an amazing shelf display of Ideas sets with this one, Barracuda Bay, the Tree House I still need to buy and the Medieval Blacksmith that I now have extra incentive to buy.

On one hand, it looks like there are a lot of those new 1x4 with curved top in lbg, which are most likely going to be used on the new castle, but it still looks to me like a collection of individual builds placed next to each other rather than one coherent model

Thank you, that was what I meant

There are 5 other Castle sets in the ad; https://www.brickfanatics.com/six-sets-in-lego-back-to-the-future-short/

So it is possible that it is the D2C castle or a previous version of it. However the minifigs do not match any of those sets except the blacksmith, they just look like old figs from the 80ties :sceptic: I expect them to update the old figs to modern standard not just copy the old ones. In addition only 1 cow and 2 horses are in the clip so if this is what we end up with minifig- and animal-wise I will be disappointed since I expect more from 350$:def_shrug:
What I see:

  1. forestman farmer
  2. forestman woman
  3. forestman girl
  4. forestman boy
  5. blacksmith
  6. forestman troubadour
  7. nobleman? riding
  8. lion soldier
  9. lion soldier
  10. lion soldier

Why Blacksmith minifigure again? We do have Medeival Blacksmith set from last year. I think this set could fit with this 90th anniveary set.

It is not a wish list, but the figs I see in the "back to the future" video. The blacksmith is the odd one out, because he is the only one that has been in one of the sets in the clip :sceptic:

This news is big enough to come out of retirement for me. Hello to my old Lego Castle friends.

It is very exciting to see that Castle has been getting some love over the last year or two, and even more exciting that we're finally going to get a big boy (and big $) castle.

Though I haven't posted in a long time, I have been paying attention, and I must say, I am 99.9% certain that the images from the Back to the Future video are in no way representative of what we'll see this summer. Too much of it is a conglomeration of pre-existing sets from different styles and eras. Plus, there is precedence for this. When we were waiting for the Creator Medieval Castle set to be reviewed, there was a promo video that included a unique castle that had a much better chance of being a sneak peek of the set to come, and it wasn't related to anything that made production.

Side note: I've been keeping up and got the Ideas Blacksmith, 3 copies of the Creator Medieval Castle and several of the new Black Falcons minifigs from Bricks & Pieces as well as the CMF's that fit within the castle, historic and fantasy themes. So, while I have been silent, I certainly haven't given up on the best theme. :)

Lego has definitely been laying out the love for Castle during the past year.  This bad boy should be the icing on the cake.

We’re you able to grab a Castle in the Forest as well?  Stockpile some minifigs from CMF series 23?  Load up on those bards!
