Was sooo looking forward to something like this and now thats out ithe castle makes no sense...

1. Does the carriage even goes through the gate? Can it even turn around on the ramp up towards the gate WHAT THE HELL...

2. On the inside when people come in there is no way to go down no ramp down?

3. The wheel for blacksmith makes the castle open to attacker Why make it so dumb?

4. Lion Knights castle without a king but obviously it has to have feminist Queen? =) Epic... Queens has no work as knights really...

Overall dissapointed...

Nice to see it though.

Chillis, 1 each time?

Could there be a once shop limit?

Thanks for your response. In Norway the limit is 3 sets (!), but I solved the mentioned issue. I had a amount limit on the bank card, I raised it and then there`s two castles on its way! Hurray, cannot wait! :pir-love:

Let’s not start this argument up again. Plenty of other things to talk about as we all order, wait, finally receive and build.

I'm impressed, but also sad, that the castle's availability has lasted longer than the Forestmen GWP.

Although you could also say, cynically, that the point of a GWP is to get people to buy more LEGO that they wouldn't otherwise get, which it did very well in June. Releasing it on August 3 to match the castle likely wouldn't push people over the edge to buy it. But doing it in a few months time might. No idea why they thought an August 1 release was a good idea though.

Everyone's favourite - the bathtub stunt bike - is out of stock already, however!

Damn, what did I say, already in front of all these peeps and I only see 6 Castle sets displayed 😍

No GWP’s in sight

For those wondering why this didn’t came out on August 1st, the group here is telling me that they were 200 people here Monday lined up outside 😒

It’s funny because I randomly woke-up at 2am Pacific time last night and ordered two Gakaxy shuttles on a whim and was shown I qualified for the GWP but it isnt in the actual order. When I ordered the castle the night before I never got that message.

I've got to say, when I was looking at the comparison between the new and old Lion Knights shields, I realized I really don't like the new one for one reason. In the old one, the red mark clearly represents the lion's tongue. In the new one, it looks like he's breathing fire. I cannot unsee that now, and it's going to bother me forever.

Just ordered a copy of this one for my sister when she visits later this month (it's probably cheaper here than it would be in Canada, and I don't want to risk this selling out when orders open up for non-VIP members). Still gotta decide if I want a copy for myself as well... there's a lot of sets on my wishlist this year but it'd be nice to have this one alongside Barracuda Bay and the Galaxy Explorer to complete the retro Castle/Pirates/Space trifecta.

I hear you, but for me (a graphic designer) that notion is offset by the generally cleaner design of the new parts. That makes sense, as design language has come a long way in 40 years.

Well, where I come from, heraldic "panthers" actually do breath fire (since 1314 A.D.):

Of course, back then, no one in central Europe knew a real panther; this "panthier" is simply a legendary creature like a griffin or unicorn. So be at ease: After 700 years, you won't care anymore, too. ;)

That's really interesting. It seems too similar to be a coincidence. Maybe that's what it was based off of.

I picked up the set today and no GWP available. Our store said they were gone August 1 when the huge rush came in. I have 2 from the last time it was available. I had hope for getting a third one because I wanted to army build the new forest guardians.

I plan on getting 1 to 3 more sets because Peter Keith's work is amazing on instagram.

I have been building the set in studio. Half is almost done. I used the online pdf instructions to build it. The goal is to have it done in studio and save the file as is and then open the file as an import and begin expanding it.

Expansion ideas:

1. Widen every tower wall. The 5 stud wide towers will be double the size. 10 studs will fit the angle they made with the fountain inside and I already built that section in studio with 2 fountains. Widen the other 5 stud tower and wall adjacent to it in the front.

2. Widen the towers on the gatehouse to 9 or 10 studs.

3. Double the width of the interior. The rooms are basically built with 16x6 on each half of the dollhouse. I want to make it about 32 wide by 12 on each section.

4. Rearrange the kitchen and above fireplaces to fit in line with each other. I think the best way to do this is center the fireplaces for all the floors and not have them on the side.

5. With the new widths there will be plenty of room for store rooms and a treasurey on this side. I also will enclose the stairs from the kitchen to the great dining hall. Then make a separate staircase from the living quarters to the treasury.

6. Create an outside gate or doorway to the main gatehouse courtyard to the back half. More defense.

7. The great hall will be 16x24 when enclosed. 2 stories high. The living quarters will be shoved to the side and preside next to it one level higher. The living quarters will be 2 levels high to make the castle a bit taller.

8. The gatehouse will need an overall on interior placement. I think it needs knight quarters and separate rooms from the dungeons. I would build the armory in the basement and a second one on the barracks floor above the entrance. When it's double the size it will give me room to add a central tower like Peter did. This may house the wizard at the top.

9. Expand around the castle like Peter did. I think having a second gate leading to a lower section will give the castle life. This will give them plenty of room for stables, soldiers barracks, blacksmith, and other items in a Bailey.

Well, be my guest: Here in Bavaria, we have plenty of those creatures -- and also actual lions! This is the coat of arms of Bavaria:

Lots of lions, the "panthier" (this time with his tongue rather than spewing fire!), a crown and some nice geometric forms. Most of this stuff is from the 14th century. But there are other prominent users of the lion, like the House of Habsburg.

I'd assume they just took two popular heraldic creatures, the lion and the eagle some bird.

Has he indicated if he’s going to put plans on rebrickable? That project has turned out amazing for sure.

Also with the Lego Lion Knights having multiple references to Richard the Lionheart / Crusaders, the England lion applies as well.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_arms_of_England

Even the colors match with the LEGO crusader/lionknight shields and the recent larger BAM shield having 4 corners with red/blue.

It does look similar to Richard I's arms:

The new one is closer to this one with the staggered legs. The new one is good, but I really wish the red part went into its mouth so it would actually look like a tongue. Of course, I would probably never have given it this much thought if I didn't have so much time analyzing the photos waiting to actually get a copy of this thing. :pir-triumph:

Yes, he said he would do exactly that. He is a great follow on Instagram. Really dig his stuff.

Local LEGO store here in OKC, Oklahoma is cleaned out of the Forestmen GWP. I'm not sure what the sentiment elsewhere is, but I find myself lacking much motivation to get the Castle anytime soon without the GWP. It's strange... I thought I was more excited about the castle itself, but I think it was more the combination of the GWP and the Castle than anything else.

He did say that his expansions are not based solely on parts from the set. In other words, you would need to order parts to complete his expansions.

I'm trying to adhere to the confinement of the sets. I got one at the store today and was able to purchase one online last night. I'm going to build a 2x version of the set and see where that takes me.

So far Peter's expansion ideas would require 4 sets to build something similar in scale. He isn't even finished with the lower section.

Based on the set they were building at the store I am guessing 4x would be a good size. I think 4 sets would be able to give you 2 gate houses, a great hall, living quarters, a courtyard, armory, dungeon, treasury room, store rooms, kitchen, solar room, knight barracks, housemaid barracks, a few extra towers, a magician tower, and maybe multiple level spaces with more caves and moat area. The castle could have an exterior wall with stuff Peter is doing like an inn, stables, etc.

I bought one castle today.  No GWP, as they sold out on the 1st of August in all 5 Chicagoland LEGO stores.  I will open and build this set and am excited to do so.  As for the other 2-5 I am planning on buying, I will wait for double points or a good giveaway before buying them.  This set will be on shelves for at least a year and I can afford to be patient.

Why TLG let the GWP run out before the castle came out is beyond me.  As I have said before.  Most people who got those forestmen sets with their purchases won't care one bit about them.  I know one thing for certain...  That GWP set is not going to sway a single "non castle" person to now buy the $400 castle just to go with their 250 piece free forestmen set.

My Ming boggles ar the thought of the space needed for 4 castles!

I don’t have room for 1!

Sounds like you need a dedicated Lego room lol

I'll probably end up with 3-4. Need to dig into the pieces more but seems like it's got a good assortment for castle MOC's, plus all the figures/accessories/etc. Also gotta pump up those castle sales stats! I'm still holding out hope they release a Wolfpack GWP or something else, but given the Forest hideout ran twice I doubt they're giving us any more fan service this year.

My friend at the lego store told me the GWP for this month is leftover stock from jume they had and likewise they were wiped out from the get go, I was laser focused on my castle that I completely forgot about the haunted mansion set and they are out already 😭😭
