I do have that advent calendar but it's buried in my storage unit, time to dig through all my boxes! I love your castle banners in the background though! Quote

I don't have that, but I might go with a traditional Majisto one so I can change the beard/hair. Quote
woodford86 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 I'm on bag 11, really enjoying this build! Its so much sturdier than a lot of the more affordable builds (I'm looking at you Harry Potter), and it makes such good use of mostly very basic pieces. Quote

In fact, I don't believe there's a single 1x2 brick that isn't the masonry style. So you actually get a lot more of them than you'd expect when you look at the box art. They're often used in places that aren't even visible. Because this set of made of so many basic parts, it's very versatile. Agreed! I'm also really impressed that the new 1x4x3 half-arches appear in such substantial quantities, so it's easy to get started right away on MOCs that use those parts instead of having to wait for them to show up in a cheaper set. 22 hours ago, jodawill said: There are more helmets included than I remembered seeing in the pictures. In particular, there are three visor helmets, which I'm excited about. Yeah, that was really thoughtful of the designers. On a related note, I was really pleased that the designers included plenty of space on the weapon racks for all the knights/guards to store their weapons when they're "off duty" — though unfortunately, no dedicated spots for the already helmeted minifigs to store their helmets (or spare hair pieces to replace their helmets with). 16 hours ago, jodawill said: There's another interesting detail I forgot to mention. The flames inside are the small vertical ones, but all of the flames on the exterior appear to blow in the wind. Great attention to detail! I was really charmed by that detail as well! There are two chimneys and the one in the "back" connects to the top floor's fireplace, so I suppose the one in the front is meant to be for the oven on the ground floor and the fireplace on the middle floor— but I do kinda wish that they worked some kinda flue into the design of the walls to make a clearer connection between those parts of the build. SirBlake Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Yeah, fireplaces to nowhere aren't great, but I was so charmed by the way the stairs work behind the bakery, I couldn't be bothered to worry about that much. Quote

Yeah, I noticed that when I was finishing the first book, it doesn't really line up enough for my taste but it shouldn't be too hard to relocate the chimney to be more in line with the fireplaces. jodawill Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) What's the Bricklink name of the color of the queen's visor? I was just looking at the price of each color, and the metallic gold one is $20! They're all ridiculously expensive though. I'm going to buy a ton of these if they ever show up on Pick a Brick. Edit: Actually, it's already listed on Bricklink. It's pearl gold. I wonder how much it will sell for. Edited August 11, 2022 by jodawill Quote

Sir Dano Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Yeah, I really regret not getting the drawbridge set that had the metallic gold visor but ah well, I'll just give her a metallic silver one. Or buy a bootleg one and see if it looks any better than the pearl gold one Quote
Rjbricks Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 They look fine. But the hole for the plume is narrow and the holding section can snap easily if you’re not careful. Quote
jodawill Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 Take a look at the middle section of the front wall. Imagine if you deepened this part of the castle and turned this into a balcony with archways on either side. It would be a great place for the queen to stand and address her subjects. I imagine this is what the designers had envisioned, but they didn't have the ability to flesh it out with their limitations. Spoiler Quote
Follows Closely Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 (edited) I do like the castle, but I am disappointed that even at this price point the castle is undersized. The above photo is a great example of the potential of this design. I would like it to be both wider and deeper. Maybe 4 bricks deeper and add 3 bricks wider on each side tower. #neverEnough Edited August 12, 2022 by Follows Closely Quote

It's a really good size, and barely fits on a shelf as it is. Wider and/or deeper would require that it live on a pedestal in the middle of the room, lol. Quote
eldiano Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 The walkways and armory section could had been converted to a throne room, as a matter of fact you could extend the castle starting from the residential area, I want another castle set but I’m in no hurry yet Quote

Sir Dano Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 Finished building it today, what a wonderful set. Well worth the money I paid for it in my opinion. Don't know if I was just lucky but I ended up with 3 extra red small plumes: Quote
