Hello Everyone,

I was looking through at my old photos earlier in my hardisk. Right now, looking at these pictures have suddenly prompted me to start a topic like this. As I am browsing through these images, it certainly brings back many fond memories that I had and cherished. I believed many of you out there, do have some experience. Why don't we start sharing and tell us your special event in your life?

I was searching a topic like this, but I could not find one. If there is such a topic exist, I am very sorry for my double post.

I going to summarise neatly for my birthday experience this year! My ex-classmates organised my birthday celebration this year. It was my close friend, whom I always called her sister and a couple of mine good friends planned this outing. They tried to ask the whole class along. Well, I supposed 10 out of 20 is quite good attendance, right?

They brought me to a cool place called "Timbre" where live music and tasty food are served. Great friends accompanied with great food, certainly is the best way to celebrate and chill out. I can remember clearly, when they present my "1st" birthday gift. Seriously, at that point in time, I thought that was my only gift. My expression was like  when I saw a magnet castle pack (3 castle figure) together.

And later on, someone which of course was the crew, came with a big birthday cake! I was like very surprised. I thought that's was all. The cake was fanastic, and most importantly it was customised. They knew I was crazy about LEGO. But I never expected to see a cake which have LEGO stuff placed on top of it. Do you know I almost cried? :cry_happy:

Then, my friends presented me the true gift which had been hiding under the table. It was the Chess Set, exactly the same print on my cake. Trust me, I was very very touched and happy at that point in time. Well, when I said I have multiple sets of this, the people whom went to buy the present felt a little disappointed. But, I told them. Castle was indeed my favourite theme, and that Chess Set was my favourite and is very useful for my army expansion. They have gotten me a very nice present. :sweet:

That night, was a very happy occassion for me. Someone thought I did not enjoy myself and thought that her planning was bad. On the opposite, she had done a very great job. I am very happy to have her, done all this for me. I am glad to have them too, that stood by me always. Hope you enjoyed reading this small little event of my life.

This entry is dedicated to Diana, my best friend whom stood by me always. :classic:

What a great Lego Birthday! Thanks for sharing that story White Fang. It's great to have frinds who care about you. Happy belated birthday.

I don't have as moving a story as you, but I spend the day before my birthday in DownTown Disney. I was checking out the awesome Lego store there. It was also a nice vacation.

It's always nice to read something like this. A touching story and a great idea for a thread, WhiteFang!

As for me, personally, well... I'm 191. At my age, you're a little old for birthdays, but I'll share some earlier memories later.

A little old? You were a little old at 80, you're ancient now!

Bluervo... you're over 80.

Shut up!

Thanks again for posting this!

It usually involves lots of plastic bricks scattered on the table(Not separated!*Gasps*). On birthdays I don't follow Lego rules much. But I learned one birthday that you should take Lego's advice for NOT BUILDING ON GRASS! I lost lots of A-wing parts. :cry_sad:

I am always on holiday on my birthday (a tradition since leaving school!) and I always make sure I get at least one new Lego set to take with me wherever I may be on holiday. Putting together a new set while enjoying a cold one always does me quite nicely!

Cheers

Sorry if this doesn't seem like the right place to do it, but I really need to vent.

Birthday should be a happy experience, instead of venting it out in a negative channel, why not reflect on the positive things instead? It will be much better than brooding over it.

Anyway, I have a similar topic at hand, but its mainly for sharing positive birthday experience. Oh, Happy Birthday, Ratbat. :classic:

Topic merged.

Sorry, it's just really hard to. As I said, I've been in a long depression, and I know some more crap will be coming later in the week.

Among other stuff! C'mon, it's obvious that you brood way too much on the downers. Everybody gets those!

Me, I don't celebrate my birthdays. My family do their best, putting up the banners and stuff, but I've never seen the point and they like to tease me about that. I'm not much of a celebrator of anything.

Ratbat, happy birthday!

This is going to be hard to read, but your dad was mostly right. I don't know how mean he was about doing all this, but if my kid started pouting that the camera I bought them wasn't good enough, I would take it back. I don't know about Europe, but in America and Canada, a lot of kids have a sense of entitlement about presents, when they should be feeling grateful. I was the same way when I was a kid. One year I only wanted Transformers for Christmas, and when they were all sold out and I got a knock off, I was disappointed. A year later when I thought Transformers were dumb, I got a bunch and I was disappointed. My parents were too tolerant with me, and years later, I can't believe how spoiled I must have been (which is just a little above average for the suburbs).

Anyway, my advice to you is to realize you were wrong to react that way, regardless of other crap you were going through at the time. Your parents bought you a digital camera! No matter what, that is a good thing. Think about it a bit, then, talk to your dad. Apologize. Tell him you know that you weren't appreciating it. If your dad was too severe with you in the way he spoke, tell him after, that he had a point, but that it's hard to take it in when he's so angry. Ask him to control his temper. If he says something like, "you're still not getting your camera." counter it with something smart like, "I understand, it's alright. I just want some time to think about things, okay?" If you come across as if you learned something, maybe you will get the camera. At the least, your parents will probably go back to their regular gift giving habits.

Some kids have nothing. Some kids from broken homes would be happy if their dad just showed up to say happy birthday.

...........................

As for me, my birthdays have sucked for at least a decade. Now that I'm in Japan, where birthdays aren't really important, I get little from anyone. My parents deposit a check into my bank account, and I thank them. Last year, I spent $100 on my wife, new plates, and I cooked a gourmet meal for her which we took out to a nice place and had a picnic. Time and money. Then she got me something for $30. That was it. I smiled and thanked her, and let her know I appreciated it.

How to make a lady happy on her birthday:

Find a spot away from the sounds of the city.

A nice meal that can be served cold, and on new plates. The wine was cheap, but the missus doesn't care for wine all that much. I drank most of it

That's sweet. :cry_happy:

On 30 April, my birthday, the whole family comes together, eating cake and I get nice presents. Some of my best friends visit me that day. A cool thing is 30 April is Queens day in the Netherlands, which means I never have school or work on my birthday. :sweet:

On the next Saturday I host a big party. Lots of friends come and there is a lot of beer, liquor, food, music and awesomeness. :cry_happy:

The first day of my new age is a horrible one, I suffer from a hangover, have to clean up the mess and have to remove people from the sofa on which they fell asleep.

After that I'll go and enjoy my presents! :sweet:

Never seen this topic before. Nice one WF!

You made me search for some photos from the past and since we are in a LEGO forum, I wanted to combine it.

pict1278.jpg

:cry_happy:

(I've taken a picture of the actual photo since my scanner is down for 2 months now, hence the quality.)

The year is 1987, I was 8 years old in that picture, (yep, that's little Zorbas there with the light blue T-shirt  ) and I was very happy because I wasn't expecting these two gems from my parents since it was a surprise birthday party. My first two big sets. :sweet: Legoland...

Nowadays, when it's my birthday, my friends come to my house with a birthday cake "to surprise me", I act surprised (it has become a tradition  ), we drink, eat (my soon-to-be wife makes some delicious plates for the occasion) and most of the times we end up playing board games or we go out for a drink.

This topic made me feel nice!

I never had a real Birthday party but I have had a couple of memorable moments.

This past summer when I turned 16 my Mom and I were just browsing in TRU, she looked at me and said "You can get this set here is you'd like." I looked at the set that she was pointing at and it was Kings Castle Siege! I was flabbergasted. I snatched it up and absolutely peeled to the checkout in excitement. That's the greatest Birthday memory of my mere 16 years of existence.

My B-day is the tenth of July.

I use to have a party with my friends, but now I just go out to dinner with my family. Then have cake and presents when I get home. I just came out of a darkages this year really so the only lego set I got for my birthday recently was the skeleton's tower two years ago, it was a nice set. My birthday is August 31. :classic:

Well, for me, my entire family loves the exact same make of cake, so it's a mainstay in our cupboard. Today, the cake is ready, I've got some nice books and a hefty amount to spend on Bricklink, and some friends coming over later on to spend the evening playing Halo 3 :sweet:

Perfect

Ratbat, happy birthday!

Thank you.

I have come to accept that I have only myself to blame. I wasn't crying, but he just noticed something was wrong. But I would just like to add that my dad is a hypocrite. I'm not going to lie. I don't want this to seem like me trying to get everyone to have pity for me, but my Dad has said, and done much worse when he didn't get what he asked for.

But you're right. 15 is too old for that crap. I think the best for me is to just forget about it and move on.

Two years ago, this is where I spent most of my birthday:

legoland08-124.jpglegoland08-134.jpg

The missus and I got a few looks queuing to get into LL Windsor without kids in tow, but I'm too old to care. We stayed in a swanky hotel in Windsor, had a fantastic meal, great wine - that was my idea of a perfect day.

@Ratbat: through life you'll get stuff that isn't quite what you want; please remember that people might have gone to an awful lot of trouble to get what they hope is the perfect present for you. I've learned the hard way that seeing the look of hurt in people's eyes when I've made a fuss about it far outweighs my own disappointment, so please take my advice and make the best of it! And, as def says, be glad you're getting something at all.

(raising a glass) To happy birthdays generally!

So tomorrow is my 28th birthday but my family got together tonight for a post christmas / my birthday dinner so I got to open some presents early!

Scored the Yellow truck and trailer set #3221 from my brother

Hey that's awesome! I love the Yellow Truck and Trailer so I'm sure you will too. Its a perfect edition to my town! I never had much use for helicopters because they couldn't fly but If I got it as a gift I would have just as much fun building it as the others! Hope you have fun building them!

Happy Birthday for tomorrow, I hope you receive more Lego! :classic: The 3221 is a great set as is 7206 (I own both).

For my birthday (30th December) I got a 7208 Fire Station and bought a 8076 Deep Sea Striker and 3222 Helicopter and Limousine for myself, they both were at 33% off.

just finished building both and I must say I was quite impressed with the fire helicopter. It probably wasn't a set I would have bought myself but now I want more fire stuff! augh!

haven't gotten anymore just yet, but my wife gave me a coupon to buy a lego set once she gets paid so I have a few days to decide what i want!

Just got home from work to find my wife had 2 presents for me for my birthday.... even though it was a couple of days ago!

Scored the 8403 city house and the 7684 pig farm and tractor!

Pretty stoked as they will fit into my layout theme very nicely. Looks like I have a good night of lego building ahead of me!

Last month I spent my birthday with my gf, friends and my old buddy Jack Daniels. No appropriate pics to post though  As for a few gifts I picked for myself; I was EXTREMELY lucky to privately contact a gentleman selling his and his son's entire Lego collection on eBay a month before my Bday. It was quite a city setup too, but didn't sell, too much $$$$. I contacted him through eBay, then through my email.

As for the luck I ran into? I purchased his Cafe Corner for $149, Market St. for $90, and Town Plan for $160. As well as a handful of smaller vehicles that had been discontinued. I could not believe he sold those for their original price. I thought about flipping them back on eBay because I don't have room for modules in my city (right now). I decided not to be a money greedy d**k and invested in a bunch of plastic storage bins until I can expand. That was my 2010 Bday! :classic:
