[MOC] Chevrolet Impala SS 1964

Hey, this is my another Chevrolet model in Creator Expert scale - Impala '64.

Length: 39,2cm /49 studs
Width: 15,2cm /19 studs (18 without grey bars)

Functions:
- working V8 engine (powered by a differential)
-working steering wheel
-openable doors, hood and trunk

Looks very true to the original! I mean, the real car looks like it was designed with making a LEGO build in mind, no curves or other problems. But still, very well done.

Only thing I dislike is that there is a transparent piece in the rear window, but nowhere else. That looks weird.

Oh, there are some curves on the sides of the car, that's why they are built with SNOT technique :) But in general you are right, the older cars are easier to replicate with lego :)

Yes, you are right, there is some inconsistency. But LEGO doesn't use side windows (most of the time) either, so only the front one is missing. I couldn't fit anything in there - the windshield from the ECTO didn't fit, even though it was the closest.

Yes, you're right - I already had limited space there, the long black plates support the sides of the car which had to be reinforced somewhere, increasing the lack of space.
I know, the V8 should be a bit more in the back, however there I have a steering layout and I couldn't fit it. The alternative is a creator expert style engine, however I preferred it to move :)

I used to drive a 1964 Chevy Malibu, a very similar in appearance model, with the Impala SS of course having the more powerful engine (ours was a straight 6 - or, was it a 4 cylinder???). Those '64's were nearly indestructible, I sold mine in 1983, and saw it running around town for at least 5 years after. Aside from the fact that mine was blue, this LEGO model is nearly dead-on accurate (except for the shag-rug covering the rear deck that everyone added to cover the peeling surface). The only significant detail that is missing are the triangular opening "air-conditioner" window insets in the L/R door windows. Great job!
