I'm contemplating having the set be a Germanic Barbarian/Berserker faction for Castle.  The wooden structures and the torsos and helmets could definitely be used for that, and I could always swap out the water for some grassy plains terrain.  But I'm still hesitant since there's a lot of things that are way specific to Vikings.  So from that point of view, I'm kind of happy it doesn't come with a ship and has more focus on the buildings and terrain and modularity instead.

I was thinking along similar lines. What parts seem to be too specific to Vikings for you?

Some of the printed bricks, and little things like the runes printed on the hammer, or the shields with runes on them, and the general architecture details.

I'll probably look up some different mocs and see what I can do.  If anything, this set gives me an excuse to get the Majisto GWP.

Finished building mine today, it's a very lovely set aside from the terrible rubber hose pieces used for the rope bridge. I've replaced them with the old string version which works better but I think I'm going to dig out my old moulded rope bridge and replace it entirely.

Why are the rubber hoses bad for the bridge?

They're too stiff and don't lay right. There's also too much friction between the rubber bar and the skeleton arm clip to be able to make fine adjustments to make them sit just right.

Just ordered this with the current bonuses.  I also bought 7016 and a few extra vikings from bricklink to create a clan.

My castle set up is going to raided by the Norse.

Really tempted with this VIP and double GWP to get the Viking Village, but I think I'll hold off.  I still have to save up for the Medieval Market, and I've got a $200 PAB order that still needs to go out before end of year.  The set does look really darn good and I've only heard good things about the build.

I was also very tempted with the current offer but ultimately I abstained. I rather like the set although it's not love at first sight like 10305 LKC. I will wait until the weekend of November 18 and 19 to probably order a second copy of the 10320 Eldorado Fortress and thus obtain the GWP Majisto (hoping that it lives up to our expectations).

And then 2024 promises to be hot in terms of releases that I hardly want (Medieval Town's Square, D&D anniversary set, White Snow and seven dwarves cottage, Barad Dur, potential new retro sets, Space sets and cmf, maybe a Zelda set?, oh and I forgot about the potential MBS Jabba's barge !!! ), I must therefore prioritize.

I also tend to get a lot of sets on the aftermarket if I see a good deal.  I pulled the trigger on LKC for Christmas deals, but immediately saw a posting on Facebook for LKC + Blacksmith + Forest Hideout for just a hundred bucks more.  And by that time, it was too late to return the Lego order, and the stores don't take back any unopened sets larger than $200 or something like that.  So now I have a second unopened LKC sitting around.

I just need to learn to pace myself better.  It's hard when Lego really knows how to promote a deal and chip away at my fear of missing out.

Viking VIllage was never on my original list, but it's definitely up there.  I also forgot about the D&D set, but I think I can hold out on that since I already have quite a few big castles.  I'm starting to look at diversifying different biomes and terrain.  I still want to expand on some snowy terrain, which Viking Village is perfect for.

You know, you should receive double Insider points voor PAB orders, so if you order now instead of towards the end of the year, that's 1500 points extra.

I'm planning to do that for Black Friday, which usually has a VIP weekend, plus Majisto GWP.  They've been consistent with the 2X VIP rewards during that time.

I followed through with my plan to get Viking Village from Target rather than Lego.  I had $54 worth of Target Circle rewards and still had a $100 gift card left over from when they sold them @ 10% off for Target Redcard holders,  So that was a big savings for me rather than getting it from Lego with double points and/or a decent GWP.  I had always planned to use the gift card when the set was released and my saved Circle Rewards made it an even better deal.  Ended up getting another $15 in earnings for spending over $100 and 1% more back on the purchase since I didn't use my Redcard to pay so I've got another $15+ rewards to spend on something else.

I’ve just ordered this but realised I messed up and forgot the double Insider points was on and used the Insider points I’d built up to pay for it 🙈 ah well. I wanted the GWP anyway.

There are a few minor quibbles I have with it. These are small things, I really do love it. And If you're using the set for display rather than play then these are all inconsequential.

  • First is the rubber parts in the bridge as mentioned by another user above. String here would have been better. It's difficult to get them to not sit wonky.
  • Second, the way the three main parts connect is clever with the clip on a straight side to a bar on a diagonal, but because it uses claw pieces inside holes (instead of fixed brick with clip, for the off-grid distance), there is a tendency for the claws to pop out of the hole, instead of unclipping if you separate the parts. Which is fine until you want to reconnect the parts and it becomes a case of getting these bars to line up with holes.
  • Thirdly the roof on the long hall has a very exact positional requirement when placing it back on. Yet it's also not very rigid, making it tricky to get it to sit right.
  • 2 weeks later...

I wonder if the viking village torso's and legs will eventually be listed on PAB.

I think it's almost guaranteed, but may take a few months. The figures from the Eldorado fortress just got listed two weeks ago so it took a bit over 3 months for them to be added.

Yeah probably around January or so though PAB usually shuts down around the holidays I think for a little while.

I haven't been in the space long enough yet to see this, do they just stop restocking or stop fulfilling orders?

They stop accepting orders, but orders that come in before the shutdown should be fulfilled.

Both.  You can possibly still place an order for what isn't out of stock but they stop processing orders until the holiday missing parts rush is over.  Last year it was about two months if not longer before they replenished and started filling outstanding orders.  The list of orderable parts dwindled to just a few thousand early this year before they finally replenished.

Someone posted somewhere they heard it might not shutdown this year though.

Hopefully, that is the case, been waiting for a restock to grab some parts I wanted.

How long before they typically re-list the out of stock items?

someone posted on a different thread about some new animal molds being available but it went non-orderable in a matter of hours!

The new Viking minifigs have nice printed legs so I can’t imagine these not being popular.
