I'm a little confused what you mean by this... according to the National Museum of Denmark, it doesn't sound like the Vikings were any stranger to dyed clothing. In general, antiquity tends to have been more colorful than a lot of popular depictions would have you think.

On a purely aesthetic level I like the use of color for the Viking outfits in the set as it helps keep them visually distinct from each other and from the largely earth-toned buildings they reside in.

Allow me to rephrase my sentiment. The historical inaccuracy was more so aimed at the helmets. I do have issues with the coloring, but that should have been expressed in a completely different sentence. I would have preferred they been given the cmf Viking helmet from Series 20 figure, as that incorporates more smoothly with the colorful fabrics. Its a personal taste preference but I feel the horned helmets look better on black and beige figures even if its more accurate that they be colorful, I just prefer to display my horned vikings with more muted colors. The cmf figure had browns, greens and blues and I feel these colors incorporate well. I have reviewed the images again and its only the male viking with greens, reddish browns and darker greens whose color scheme I think looks ridiculous with his helmet. But I will say I’ve grown to enjoy the other the girls and the “main” green and beige viking looks amazing

 But yeah once again I was more so referring to the helmets when I mentioned accuracy, the color criticism was worded poorly on my end and again should have been elaborated on. Horned helmets in my mind go with muted colors and the newer helmet pairs better with the colorful patterns these figures got. So I meant to say if we’re going to get colorful vikings, I don’t think it should have been paired with these helmets. But that really only translates on swapping helmets for one figure or giving him different legs, as only two figures in this set have helmets anyways.

Oh, boy, does this set rock :D I adore the shields. The printed parts are awesome. I love how the torso prints got no female waist lines, so I can use the torso for my male dwarfs. It has Edoras vibes. Should be quite a popular set. The only thing I really miss in this set is a new beard or at least a recolour (for example the new Gimli one or the one from dreamz in tan)

Maybe they can feature some old Viking folklore that include Odin, etc... or have those been 'copyrighted' by Marvel, inc?

Maybe 'raid' would be an off-limits topic to Lego now, but perhaps a friendly 'trade'? LOL

I would bet we will not see any vikings for a while now. But hopefully, with them doing more historic sets again, we will see more sets like that from other nations. Romans, Egyptians etc. Although I kinda doubt they do that unless it ends on ideas.

Maybe in another two or three years?

We got Lion Knights castle just a few years ago, and next year, the Medieval village is coming. We got an Ideas pirate set just some years back, and just recently, we got El Dorado.

Lion Knights’ Castle was released last year, not “few” :) I heard rumors it will stay on the shelves until end of 2024 (?). Galaxy Explorer was out last year and will be released by the end of this year. 

I wold be interested to see more Caslte, Pirates, Spae, Vikings and other classic sets in future!

Marvel cannot copyright Norse mythology, but their renditions of the characters are probably the most well-known at this point, and it would be somewhat of a challenge to come up with Minifig designs that are both recognisable and not overly similar to Marvel’s designs. 🫤

I wonder if the medieval village could go this route; we got a lot of new prints in the Viking village, so I could see some of them being reused at some point.

I doubt that a raid would be off-limits (we did get the Mill Village Raid, after all!), but a greater impediment would probably be that LEGO seems not to want to portray Vikings in a villainous/aggressive role.

Well, there you go... Lion Knights was/ is quite popular and it is not a surprise they have a follow up set so soon. One can argue that the Medieval Blacksmith was a set they used to test the waters.

Perhaps, with the positive reviews for this Vikings set, Lego would consider having a follow up set quite soon?

Yeah, but I belive, Space, Pirates and Castle are just the Lego classic Themes, with plenty of different sets over the years which Vikings just doesn´t have. So I doubt we will see Viking remake sets as they are just to new. And as I said while I would love for Lego to expand their historic themes to new Sets of stuff like Rome, Egypt or new Viking sets it just seems unlikely to me, honestly.

I would actually be surprised if the Lion Knights Castle would retire that soon. Sets of that Size and Price usually stay around for longer, unless they perform bad.

I don´t have a doubt that the Vikings set will perform good, but that just means that they might keep doing sets like this but not necessarily the vikings theme. I think most of the people that will buy it are the same that would also buy a castle Set. And even for the historic/nostalgic themes they are basically stand alones. Sure you could count the forestmen hideout to the castle, and if the rumours are true we get a second blacktron one next year. But in the end it would make most sense if you want to make an other set for a theme at the same time. Like the dragon ship is now retiring when the viking village is coming out but there is no new one to replace it.

We will have Medievval Village set as a follow-up for Lion Knight’ Castle next year, which yay! I wanna a goat…

Yeah, I would be surprised to see another Viking set comin up in a few years from now. A flagship? A set with mythological creatures (Fenrir and Midgard, Aesir and Vanir gods)? A hall of the east for Vikings? Of course we have Viking ship from last year but I’m not a fan of that one (except for a female Viking minifigure’s helmet).

Well we get another Blacktron set soon if the rumours are true, so more of the classic themes doesn´t mean we have to get a faction we didn´t got yet. But aside from that, there is still plenty left. Castle and Space alone have so many factions they could remake. Though I would guess they are concentrating on the older ones for now. That beeing said, I wouldn´t wonder if Wolf Pack would come back soon. They could become bandits for the Medieval Market Village for instance and then appear in a GWP together with it.

We also still have to see which faction we will get along with the Majisto GWP.

Ice Planet, M;Tron, Space Police, Black Knights, Wolfpack, Dragon Masters (this really depends upon whether we get one in Majisto’s Workshop), Fright Knights (maybe a small GWP with Willa?), Redcoats, Adventurers, etc!

I am torn on these; I want them back, but they feel better suited to a full line than just a single set and (maybe) GWP. Neither has a big flagship set that can be remade easily. 🫤

The missing Classic Castle bunch would be great, everything up to Fright Knights for me.

On top of the ones mentioned, I'd love to see them revisit Monster Fighters and Galaxy Squad.  These are two that were released during my dark ages, and they're really interesting themes that I missed out on.

 

Also I recently came across a bunch of Heroica sets.  I kind of wish they did more with this, it seems like it has a lot of potential for expanding on fantasy as a buildable board game, especially with all the micro builds they make now.

I'm contemplating having the set be a Germanic Barbarian/Berserker faction for Castle.  The wooden structures and the torsos and helmets could definitely be used for that, and I could always swap out the water for some grassy plains terrain.  But I'm still hesitant since there's a lot of things that are way specific to Vikings.  So from that point of view, I'm kind of happy it doesn't come with a ship and has more focus on the buildings and terrain and modularity instead.
