JamesBenjamin Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 For a normal GWP do they go live at midnight? do they normally sell out before morning? The last one I wanted sold out but I seem to remember it was like a day later when it did. Quote
Frike Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 I don't think I have actually ever bought stuff from LEGO to get a GWP before. But I'm very tempted to get this one, though. Hopefully I can pick up maybe the Viking 3-in-1 and something else. And I'm also curious if I have to "camp" at midnight. Quote
Black Feather Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 There’s no way to know. Depends on how high demand will be and how many LEGO produced. We don’t now either of those and LEGO only knows one for sure. So did they guess high or low? Based on what happened with the bricklink set and that they are only having this GWP for half the time a GWP is ordinarily available I would err on the side of camping out. I just hope the site doesn’t crash and it’s gone in 5 minutes with loads of angry customers who camped out and still didn’t get it. Probably won’t happen. But can’t rule it out. Would also suspect it becomes available at a later time in some form as well. But can’t assume that either. I’m camping. Quote
Lyichir Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Trying to decide myself if I'll get this to be honest. Originally the in-store AFOL day (for RLUG members) was gonna line up with the eligibility period for this, but they moved the AFOL day to July so the promotions no longer overlap. :( This is a nice GWP but I'm not necessarily a castle collector so I'm gonna have to decide whether to pick up Optimus Prime for this promotion (and figure out something else to get in July, before most of the themes I actually collect come out in August), or just wait for July and see whether this promotion rolls around again in the future. RichardGoring Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 I'm in the camping camp too. Not so much because I think the GWP will sell out that quickly, but because the sets I want to buy to get it may be gone. That's a very small subset of what LEGO sells, and it probably overlaps with what most of you all want too. Time to sharpen my virtual elbows? Quote
SirBlake Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 I'm not camping out just on principle. TLG offers products I want to buy, I buy them. I'm not chasing them on the internet for the privilege of that transaction. I'm already inconvenienced that it's a GWP instead of something I can just buy outright. I'm not going to schedule my day around their silly rules. If I miss it, I will just get it at my convenience on the secondary market. Too many hoops to jump through. Quote
Weil Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 The box in the image above says "18 years & up" While no doubt many of these will end up in the hands of AFOLs, does TLG really not recommend this set for under 18s? It's based on a set that was recommended for ages 7-12. . Is this meant to be some sort of in-joke? Quote

TeriXeri Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 (edited) The 18+ thing has been a thing with GWP since a while now. "18 years and up" is a new one tho. Edited June 10, 2022 by TeriXeri Quote

LEGO is knocking it out of the park for the 90th anniversary stuff. Just wondering who I need to defeat in hand to hand combat to acquire multiple copies of these. Your banker and your wife, probably? It is only a matter of making multiple $150+ orders, after all... Edited June 10, 2022 by Celeri Quote

I had a quick look and none of e.g. 40529, 40530, 40528, 40484, 40487 have an 18+ age rating. All have lower age ratings. I saw after your comment that 40533 has an 18+ recommendation though, which also seems bizarre to me. Quote
Sir Dano Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Initially I thought the "18 years and up" thing was meant to be a callback to classic boxes but a quick google tells me the original set box said "ages 7-12" so no idea about that specifically. The 18+ thing in general is because TLG wants to sell stuff to adults who are too insecure to buy children's toys. Quote

It's a bit mixed, like the recent amusement park GWP set was 6+ , but Vintage Taxi, Barcelona , Mini Adidas Shoe, Cosmic Cardboard Adventure have been 18+ . And then you'd expect Jane Goodall or Amelia Earhart might be targeted at adults too, but no, the set age were 8 and 10+. That said, the 18+ sets except the adidas shoe all share the shame type of 18+ box style, with the lego bricks on the bottom part and most have black/grey backgrounds. For the forest hideout GWP it certainly tries to be a more classic box, sort of how Barracuda Bay had some classic box design hints, but those sets are actual remakes of old sets. I can imagine this King/Queen Castle set and Galaxy Explorer sets in August probably have a yellow framed box as well. Edited June 11, 2022 by TeriXeri Quote
unclejeffie Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 are items on backorder also eligible for the GWP? Quote

Yes, but make sure to order something that's in stock too, as the GWP will only ship with a standard set (not Bricks and Pieces). And if you wait for the backordered item to be in stock, they will probably be out of GWPs. Quote
brimbolet Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Why for heaven's sake did they have to make the small black Castle System writing beneath the set description in the left corner. It absolutely ruins the perfect proportions of the otherwise nice nod to the vintage box art. I'm going to get it on the first day, already told the office I have to come later to work. Quote

Black Feather Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 I have received a GWP alone before multiple times. I think as long as it appears in your cart it is considered an ordered item ( just free). The receipt you get you get with it shows a price and the amount discounted. So if the only item in your order available to ship immediately is the GWP, they will do that occasionally. Quote
MKJoshA Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Has anyone heard how many physical copies each Lego store is getting? Quote
Triceron Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Thanks for the backorder info, that might be a gamechanger for me. I was contemplating on the Bonsai or not (on backorder) for parts to enhance my Forest sets. Quote

I've only ever heard of people getting the GWP shipped if something else was shipping (even if it's in a separate package). The GWP doesn't ship if you've only ordered backordered stuff, until something is ready to ship. Quote
Black Feather Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Most of my orders have included bricks and pieces and/or pick a brick whenever I ordered anything else. But I have ordered a back ordered set, b&p, and PAB. And I got the GWP first and the others much later. Honestly, until now the GWP was never the main focus of my order, so I wasn’t carefully reading rules and tracking closely, etc. But I do know that whenever a GWP showed in my cart, I have always received it. It was never cancelled. Even when I already received the same one with different order. (I never made two orders same day just to get another GWP. Just happened to make another order when still available.) And I have ordered back orders multiple times and still received the GWP. So I don’t know if I have been lucky or varies from region or whatever. But I have never had one get cancelled when it shows in my cart for whatever reason. Quote

If I have the item in my cart at checkout, then I expect that item to be "reserved" for me. If some of the other items are backordered, I expect the GWP to behave just like any other item, that is to be "put aside for me" until the remaining ordered items can be fulfilled. It seems like a logistical nightmare to handle it differently. Would they have employees just chucking them into eligible boxes before they ship out, and then just be like "oh I guess we ran out"?
