Hi,

Over the past few weeks I have been trying to make a simpler and smaller paddle shifter mechanism by utilising the fairly new 1x2 technic curved "comma" panels.

My idea is to use these as pawls in order to step a knob wheel 90 degrees but also to use the pawls as the stepper itself.

This would remove a whole lot of un-needed stuff from the sian/ferrari flappy paddle unit.

This was neccesary in order to add a flappy paddle shifter to my supercar WIP and also to add to the very space limited 42141 set.

I could list everything that gets kicked out of the sians flappy paddle unit but It is probably easier if I just show my current (work in progress) version.

As you can see, I am still using a typical dedicated stepper mechanism for now, the paddles work but they don't spring back to their original position, so I am manually pulling them back up. (more detailed explanation in the video descriotion)

But, at least when I do manually pull the paddle back up, it does not shift again inadvertently.

I could make this a little smaller by flipping the pawls and moving them 2L down so that they are on the same plane as the black 1x5 thin beams.

Maybe if I can reduce the backlash inbetween the pawls and the knob wheel, I can add  rubber bands to the paddles and that in itself will act as the stepper, thus enabling the stepper in the video to be thrown out.

Feedback welcome.

Regards, Snipe.

This looks really interesting, I can see some great potential here. Now try to get a full working module.

That's a great start and an ingenious use of the comma panels. Do you reckon it would work with the old PF servo?

I think so yeah, my cars have / will have remote shifting along with the flappy paddle gearbox.
