danth Posted May 5, 2023 Author Posted May 5, 2023 (edited) A 4+ Ninjago set that just got leaked includes 5 of these in trans yellow: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=57906#T=C A little narrow for a windscreen but probably usable with some ingenuity. I was just looking at that. I don't think you could fit a fig under that (not even a babyfig), but maybe you could use it for some sort of covered sensor array or something. Quote
Lyichir Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Ninjago City Markets seems to introduce garage door pieces in trans-neon green, which I'm pretty sure are new? Could be interesting for fans of M-Tron or Blacktron II. Quote
danth Posted May 9, 2023 Author Posted May 9, 2023 Is that also a new trans-purple curved panel? Quote

And while Trans Neon Green is still in some 2022 production sets (and some 2023 magazine gift), I believe that color is retiring at end of 2023 (will keep an eye on retirement dates for 2022 sets like Friends Roller Disco and Main Street) So far things seem to point toward full replacement of Trans Brown with the new bluish (Pirate Snub Fighter) version of Trans Brown/Black after 2024. Trans Neon Orange did disappear from regular sets (most notably Monkie Kid and Story of Nian) at end of 2021, but the color is still living on in a bit of an obscure place with the 2022 version of Serious Play Identity and Landscape Kit (which is for sale for €699 at LEGO.com) and Pick a Brick still has a few pieces. From the pics it really does look trans neon green. But I suck at seeing colors. I would have larger doubts about regular trans yellow because I'm not lucky enough to get that. CP5670 Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 (edited) Do they really ever retire colors as such? As said earlier, trans neon orange still appears in a few places here and there, and there are other colors that are in production but where large windscreens have not appeared for decades, like trans green. Sometimes colors like teal have disappeared for many years and were reintroduced (there are slight differences from the original, but they are often smaller than within-color variations of the same color). CP5670 Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Yes there are those cases, but it was back when they used pre-colored pellets for the parts. These days there is more variation within different light bluish gray parts than between old and bluish gray. Trans neon green and neon orange have several different within-color shades that can be seen under UV light. Quote
1974 Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 EVERY colour, 'cept perhaps black, have rather large variations post the pellet apocalypse, it's a disgrace But it does mean that TLG could potentially bring back any discontinued "new" colour in the future Quote
danth Posted May 18, 2023 Author Posted May 18, 2023 Vader mech chest print could possibly see usage as a Blacktron console. Quote

TeriXeri Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 (edited) I'm not familiar with 8 wide speed champions , but I assume those purple wheels on 60396: Modified Race Cars are those dual-moulded wheels ? Edited June 5, 2023 by TeriXeri Quote
Classic_Spaceman Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 The set for The Marvels has been revealed, and it actually looks good despite the insane price ($90!!). We also get the 18729 canopy recoloured in Trans-Orange, which should be useful. I am also curious to see if anyone does a Classic Space reskin of the ship, since it should be fairly easy to swap out some of the grey for blue (and we already have the canopy in Trans-Yellow). Quote
danth Posted July 19, 2023 Author Posted July 19, 2023 Wow, that is the single worst prices I've ever seen for Lego set. And I'm sure most of the inner consoles are krageled on. It could be a ploy, where the "leaked" price is stupidly high, and then all the fanboys convince themselves they're getting a deal when the (still high) true price is revealed. Quote
icm Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 I want to say that this spaceship reminds me of my MOC update of the 6985 Cosmic Fleet Voyager from 1985, and therefore of that grand old set by extension. I like to evaluate most licensed Lego spaceships and other licensed Lego sets purely on their own merits as Lego sets: if I knew nothing about the license and believed this (insert set here) was a purely in-house design, would it still be new and fresh and interesting and creative, doing something Lego has never done before or doing something better than it's ever been done before? Many licensed sets would make pretty great in-house themes if you told me that's what they were. Most of the Avatar line, for example. Many previous MCU spaceships and swooshyjets. But not this one. It's just a horrendously overpriced gray box without any play features or any distinctive visual flair whatsoever. It could not possibly be more generic. The old Cosmic Fleet Voyager had so much more visual imagination and play features that I'm embarassed to be reminded of it. And, of course, I'm the only one who's reminded of the Cosmic Fleet Voyager by the Hoopty. I should really try to stop seeing Classic Space in everything :) (Spoiler tag contains my Cosmic Fleet Voyager before I removed the stickers from the windscreen and changed the underside from light bluish gray to white.) Murdoch17 Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Besides Classic Space, that Marvel spaceship would also look good in Blacktron I color scheme... Quote

danth Posted August 3, 2023 Author Posted August 3, 2023 Whaaat, the 60396 truck windscreen is classic trans green, not trans-light green as it appears on the box! They really do make colored windscreens look lighter on the box, I guess so you can see the minifigs. This destroys any arguments against darker transparent windscreens. Bring back trans blue for City Space! Quote
