With Pimp up my Ferrari v0.7 I made a few more improvements:

  • Spring-loaded Doors
    • By adding a technic shock absorber the wing doors are now better fixed to keep in either closed or open state. This allows to remove several friction pins in the door mechanism and replace them by non-friction pins or axles. The complete door mechanism works much smoother, now.
    • You can open the door either manually or by pushing the yellow levers underneath the hood.
    • By adding a simple grey 1x1 round tile on top of a technic 1/2 pin the door is now fixed in closed state and allows the moving-to-the-side-part of the door to come back into closed position without colliding with chassis.
  • Foldable Roof
    • Many Thanx to @zonoskar for this cool MOD.
    •
    • I just made minimal changes like adding a technic axle in the middle, adding some 1/2 pins to keep the roof stable in unfolded position and modified the holders on top of the windscreen to keep in black.

I am now finalizing release v1.0 to be published on rebrickable.com in the next days.

Nice work. Can't wait to build mine to v1.0 specs. Great improvement to my foldable roof too.

The mirrors are based upon the mirror above...  I only made the mirror 2 thick and used a different attachment to the car with black hinge cilinder with at both ends connectionfingers and a black hinge cilinder with a technic-pin on one side. These parts are a replacement for the blue connector in the picture

On pictures below you can see the altered mirrors, based upon drawing above

Final hit out on the Ferrari Daytona SP3 - ICONA 3, now time to park it up for the New Zealand summer.

Cheers to @jb70 the Pimp my Ferrari Instructions, another outstanding job!

@zonoskar folding roof mod and @theGbrix door mod - doors hold up better with the addition of the shock absorbers.

Has anyone tried to integrate a kind of swaybar in the Ferrari model? I liked that in the pimped Porsche build, but in the other supercars it never made a re-entry. Is it too crowded in the later models?

I don't know the answer to this, but surely the Porsche must've been less 'crowded'. Funny how its part count (2704) seems 'low' by now...!

Fitted fins above the door sill, the 2x3 panel fairing moves with the door and #21/22 panel fairing moves with door mechanism - allowing clearance for door to open and close.

That looks pretty good @LegoHoops but I can't figure out how you've done it. Would you mind showing how those fins are attached please?

Ok @LegoHoops I think I’ve got an idea of how you’ve fixed those panels, at least it looks like yours when the door is closed. Problem is that the door won’t open with the #21 panel fitted there. As the door starts to open the door sill catches the fixing that holds the panel and stops the door opening. Any idea what I’ve got wrong with this mod? Any help would be great, it’s driving me nuts!!

@Buzzfox Maybe the #21 panel is attached to the opening part of the door? I'm on vacation, so I cannot try on my model.

Thanks for your reply @zonoskar. In the post about this mod @LegoHoops did specify that the #21/22 panel moved with the door mechanism rather than the door itself but when I've tried to replicate it it doesn't work and jams against the door sill - I just can't see how it's done!

Hey @jb70 !

I am currently building the pimp my version and I do have a problem, same as on pimp my Bugatti -> the paddles on the steering wheel cannot push the hi-lo gearbox up. Shifting down is working more or less. Exactly the same issue I have on Bugatti. I did not have any issues on the original model.

Changing the gears from the top cog is working fine, sometime it does skip from 5th gear straight to the 3rd, but it is ok. On Bugatti it is a bit worse. I am not sure if this is expected or somehow I did mess this on two different builds in the past year.
On Lambo it is even worse but mainly because it is on the shelf mostly and I did not play with switching gears for a few weeks (worse on both -> paddles do not work at all with 4<->5, on top one do have big issues with 4<->5).

Anyone who did Pimp my and can share the experience? I can upload a video and pictures of the mechanism.

Thank you! :)

EDIT:
I AM DUMB. I was testing it before the elastic band on the top -> it works perfect! Hell, never saw it to be so smooth.. the best iteration! THANK YOU!

Check this puppy out!

Someone finally did it (almost), It retains the engine, gearbox, DNR selector, paddle shifter unit, seats, HOG steering wheel, door mechanism, everything! but he crammed in a buggy motor, a servo motor for steering, and an LED kit.

Only thing is he didnt connect the  buggy motor to the engine or gearbox but i'm sure we can fix that :) (and without breaking gears). If he did it how I think he did it, then there should be no reason why we can't mirror it and have a second buggy motor. This would be awesome, just seeing this beast move is cool enough.

Here are the instructions (not my work):

Regards, snipe.

EDIT: Here is another mod that is full RC other than the gear shifting, and still keeps the engine and gearbox, it has LEDs, rc drive, rc steering, and rc doors opening (independant).

here is where to get it:

@SNIPE This model is designed to sit on a shelf. The queen of flimsyness says don´t even dare to touch me, don´t move me around, forget about playing. If you wanna do it anyway and even motorize, you should first redesign the mounts for the front wheel hubs which simply fall out too easily.

640x532.JPG

Then the pins on the wheels have almost no friction. So for heavy RC driving I suggest glue them to the hubs or lubricate them by sticky honey . The overall ABS material in this set feels softer and connections less reliable than what you´d usually expect. The bricked rear end would loose up to a few hundred parts on the first meters, but that´s tolerable IMO .  Just do it!

I search a easy modification to lower down the rear axle..

You can lower it down a little bit by weakening the linkage like that:

I think replacing the tan axle pins with 2L  friction pins would be a start.

The links I posted would be more for reference, even if they are not flimsy. By that I mean they would be used to make a new mod which is not flimsy and yet still keeps all of the funtions and all of the motors. Even if I only drive it around my living room floor, it's still cool to just see how much "stuff" a technic car can do, i.e what are the limitations of technic even with the current parts selection.

This is just an idea that I've been looking at for many years, it doesn't even have to be on 42143 infact it doesnt even have to be based on an official set.
