First buy 2 more of the glass shelves and add a few more exhibits to it, God willing And clean all the dust and fingerprints for higher resolution pictures, for me that´s the least fun part of it, so please be patient... The Daytona fits exactly into the shelf (each 170x60x28.5cm) lengthwise, but one side mirror needs to be removed to suit the width, same as with the Bugatti. It is a little bit Off Topic, bit can you maybe post a Link where you bought the Shelfes? Quote
greybacon Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 Does anyone have a supplier or place to purchase number plates for the Ferrari, Bugatti and Lamborghini? thanks Quote

I also changes a bit the connection to the wheel arch, such that only black is on top. For reference: Reveal hidden contents Look awesome. Appreciate if you could share the parts list for 2 mirrors. astyanax Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Once again I'm late to the party... I was looking to see if we can get rid of those square corners of sticking out of the front and rear 'gills'. In the front, they can be replaced by pairs of and . Still sticks out a bit, but already much cleaner IMO: (Also shown above are a brick-built grille, new splitter, glow-in-the-dark headlights, and 2-tone side mirrors.) In the back, there's more room, and the 'gills' can be improved by replacing each by a pair of . Also shown above are some Ideas I had for comprehensively reshaping the diffuser and the exhausts. TLG's diffuser is rather 'rough', to put it kindly. I tried to make all edges sharp and accurate. I've removed the awkward upper lip of the exhausts (what's up with that, TLG?!) and make them a little bit longer. The on the sides of the exhausts have been replaced by a more accurate concave shape. There's room too for a license plate or logo design sticker. For reference: Spoiler Quote
astyanax Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Better late than never: I've dropped free building instructions for all my modification on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-160985/astyanax/extra-pimped-ferrari-daytona-sp3/ You can find a list of my modifications at the Rebrickable entry (I say modifications, not improvements -- that's up to you to judge). Let me write here instead a bit of background. So I was patiently waited for set 42143 to drop significantly in price, knowing it might take 1-1.5y until I'd buy it. Recently the price was indeed crossing my threshold, but by that time, I had already been playing around with @jb70's virtual model of the pimped version so much, that I realized there were many parts in the box that I'd never ever use (looking at you )..... including the paper manual. So I went on BrickLink and saw that I could get a set of 4 wheels for 20€ -- and the rest of the parts I already had in my collection (I had already been ordering new panel types earlier, to play around with). So I ordered the wheels from BrickLink and just started building from my collection. I think set 42143 looks amazing in many places, but then in other places TLG completely dropped the ball. Very strange, they were so close to greatness, but then lost their sense of perfection. Fortunately I was able to fix all issues to my personal satisfaction. I'm especially proud of the highly detailed engine bay, see video above. It's modeled after this beauty in the spoiler: Spoiler Finally let me tag @Jeroen Ottens who asked me about my planned mods some time ago. Quote
LegoHoops Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Well done @astyanax on additional modifications and renewed interest. Nicely crafted detail in engine bay area and the tan seats finish off the interior better than the original blue colourway too. I had a crack at your revised exhaust area a while back, the reduced exhaust size and sloping wedges look better integrated. The diffuser area around the my registration plate executed slightly differently. Just need to get my hands on a few more of those rounded off plates to mod the red finned area. Next year we’ll probably see the return of another new Lego 1:8 car release and the process will start all over again 😂. Quote
astyanax Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 (edited) @LegoHoops Great stuff! The exhausts would look a bit better if you can get your hands on a pair of 4864b. It's the old mold without side supports, and it leaves a bigger opening. Edited October 18, 2023 by astyanax Autocorrect shmautocorrect Quote
