AgentRick Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Your favorite moments in a game, what are they? And if possible, why? Speak out, I don't even care if your best moment was hearing about the case about the some-four-hundred-thousand copies of ET: The Extra Terrestrial being buried in New Mexico! The first would have to be finally beating Bowser in Super Mario 64. When I was six and I did that, I was on the top of the world. The second was the boss battle with Giygas at the end of Earthbound. The music put together with the background just mad it feel amazing. Its so amazing, it just has to be seen by others so they can appreciate the game.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czOg5CBjGeY...feature=related The third was the last level in Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising Hard mode. The undoubtedly large setup made for the Death Ray combined with four enemy squadrons heading at you and the cannons just made the final battle seem much better the second time around. What's yours? iamded Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Hmm. Interesting topic. In no particular order. Finishing Half-life 2 ep. 2. I found it so extremely difficult, what with those crazy tripod things all attacking and blowing up the things you need to kill them. And then they start swarming in, and then you die. But after many a tries, I finally defeated them, and it felt good. Hm. You know, with all the games I've played, I don't really have any memorable moments. Oh, in Red Faction, drilling through walls in that massive mining vehicle, and cutting bridges off at both ends causing it, and all standing on it, to tumble into the chasm below. And shooting the root of stalactites, sending them falling onto unsuspecting enemies. Man I miss that game. Oh yes, something Lego related. In the Lego Rock Raiders game, the levels are set out in, well, levels. You beat on, and you can choose between the two beneath it. Each level you beat unlocks the two levels below it. But after the row of 3 levels, it narrows down to 2, then 1, then it pans out again. Anyway, there was one level near the end that I needed to beat to unlock the last ones, and I finally did beat it, and went on to play the new levels. Then I got to some crazy hard ones, which I never did end up beating, and now the game's been un-installed. Oh well. ~Peace Quote
???theriddler??? Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 GTA: SA the lego games from tt games(especialy lego indy.) 007 nightfire Quote
Siegfried Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Well it's hard to be sure as I've been playing games since The Bard's Tale but... Another World: When you fall off a ledge and you see a hand come out and save you. Stunning at the time... probably sounds lame at the moment. Final Fantasy VII: The death of Aerith. I still cry whenever I get to that scene, and I've played the game at least five times. (I'm playing Crisis Core at the moment. ) Final Fantasy X: The whole Yunalesca fight. The cut-scene before it really sets the scene. Quote

Zzz Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 interesting topic.. 3. GTA IV, when I smashed against some pillow and my car didn't start anymore. That was nice! (I sold the box and game already, cause you cannot do too much, SA was sweeter I think and I still play it) 2. playing Densha de Go Yamanotesenhen, cause it reminds me of my time in Japan like nothing else. The sounds of the train.. 1. trying out the Wii for the first time. It was massiv. I don't have it and I don't plan to buy one, but it is too much fun! Special prices for the impressions I had playing Super Mario Land, Ridge Racer, Metal Gear Solid, Shenmue, Tekken 2, GTA:SA, GTA IV, PSP in general and Lumines in specific for the first time! Quote
Deinonychus Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Ah...easy... Beating Super Mario Brothers Getting Super Mario Brothers 3 About 2/3 of the way through Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. - "WHAT!?! I'm WHO!?!" Quote

maiq the liar Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) EarthBound zero's ending ( ). 4 preteens singlehandedly defeat the alien's leader, giygas (the same one in EarthBound, but not the screwed up mass of red smoke and evil he became*). BY SINGING.*giegue and giygas are one and the same. it was just a mistranslation in EB0. Watching my sister beat Mario 2. She got mad when she found out it was only a dream. Finally beating mega man 2. AAAARG F YOU QUICKMAN AND WILY DRAGON! (those bosses took me literally a month each to beat...Quickman because of the lazers and Wily's dragon due to the fact that i suck at syncronized jumping.) oh, and i gave up when at trying to stop the tripod (their real name escapes me at the moment...) attack in HL2:EP2. It's magnusson's fault that he can't make better silos. if i ever get HL1, i'll enjoy every second of screwing up his effing casserole. Edited July 1, 2008 by maiq the liar Quote
Lord Thrawn Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 This is an interesting topic. I think my first most memorable is the amazing cutscene in Gears of War where Lieutenant Minh Young Kim is murdered in front of you by General RAAM while you're in the midst an ambush. Amazing angles and everything comes together so well. Truly the best cutscene I've ever seen. I think there's a tie for my second between the landing in Silent Cartographer and the discovery of the flood via Pvt. Jenkin's helmet camera in Halo, the first memorable because it was the first Halo level I really played in the PC demo and the second because it was told in such a compelling way. Finally, fighting Lance the Dragonmaster in the Pokemon championship in Pokemon Red was memorable. Quote
Opproperaar Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 About 2/3 of the way through Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. - "WHAT!?! I'm WHO!?!" 1) Lol, yeah that would have to be one of mine as well. I never saw it coming, the few clues that were presented I felt were a bit odd at the time - like Carth speaking about how the Force can wipe away your memory, I was like WTH? where's the relevance to the storyline? - but I never paid more attention to them. Has to be the biggest story twist I've so far encountered in a game. 2) Ninja Gaiden, the impossibly hard game: When I finally got to the eighth level, all my health potions were gone after the many encounters with APCs, soldiers and two tanks. The helicopter boss fight was so incredibly irritating that I - after trying for three hours or so - bit my controller in a blind rage and then threw it against the wall. After which I didn't play the game anymore for six months. Most surprisingly the controller does not only have bite marks left from that near fatal incident but it survived too! Made in Malaysia ... 3) Operation Flashpoint: Elite: God that game was amazing! Everything about it, from single player to multiplayer. I just can't wait for OFP2 to come out for the 360. Seriously, if you're looking for a decent military simulator (not like COD4 - actual realism) set in five 100 square km maps where you can arrange vehicles, buildings, men at your leisure, you may want to consider this game. Quarryman Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Hmm, tough one. Even though I've played games for less than 20 years At least one of them is finally beating the final Zerg mission in StarCraft:Brood War, that felt really good. (now it's way too easy though ) Oh, and beating the final mission in Warcraft 3:The Frozen Throne, tried a zillion times (or something like that), especially since a friend of mine claimed that it was completely unbeatable. Had to prove him wrong And I guess my first experience of playing an FPS in multiplayer (which actually was Shadow Warrior, in 1997 (iirc)). Completely blew me away. And something vaguely related; a friend gave me a pirated (yes, yes, shame on me ) copy of StarCraft back in April 1998, but didn't provide a CD key. And I didn't have an Internet connection at the time, so I was pretty much left completely in the dark. Started out with 0000-0000-00000 and increased until I came to one that worked, actually didn't take very long. oh, and i gave up when at trying to stop the tripod (their real name escapes me at the moment...) attack in HL2:EP2. It's magnusson's fault that he can't make better silos. if i ever get HL1, i'll enjoy every second of screwing up his effing casserole. The striders aren't the difficult thing, the problem is the hunters accompanying them. (gravity gun+timber works quite nicely though) I still haven't been able to get the "neighborhood watch"-achievement (defeating the striders without them destroying any buildings). As for getting HL1, Half-Life Anthology (HL1+OF+BS+TFC) is only 15 USD on Steam (bought it myself a short while ago) Quote

simonjedi Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I third the KoTOR twist, i would never have expected it. Tie between the D-day landing from MoH AA / the first stalingrad level from Call of duty 1 Many moments from Half-life 1/2 and their expansion packs Quote

iamded Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I have a new most memorable video game moment. And I haven't even played it yet. But I'll never forget discovering what could possibly be the best game ever for me. I was browsing through Wikipedia, and I just stumbled upon it. It's called Brütal Legend, and it's a combination of heavy metal and hack and slash gaming. I guess I'll be updating this again when I get my hands on it. "My new most memorable gaming moment: playing Brütal Legend... " [site] [wikipedia] ~Peace Quote
Scyzoryk Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Oh, and beating the final mission in Warcraft 3:The Frozen Throne, tried a zillion times (or something like that), especially since a friend of mine claimed that it was completely unbeatable. Had to prove him wrong Oh please! I beat both TFT and RoC like, ummm (thinks for a moument) 156 times??? Seriously. Build an army, destroy the blood elf and naga bases, and make Arthas run around to all four obelisks. Easy as pie. Quote
darkrebellion Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 This are my three: 1- When I beat Ganondorf in Twilight Princess. It wasn´t hard but the moment is so memorable. 2- When I beat a mission in the Trauma Center: Second Opinion. I can´t remember which but it was memorable because it was so hard. 3- When Albert Wesker defeat Lisa Trevor in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. When he defeat Lisa he just said "Be a good girl and stay dead" the phrase is so badass and the moment really was dark. Quote
yellost Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 The only one that comes to mind right away is when you learn that Coclint Island and all of its inhabitants are just a dream of the dreamfish in Zelda Link's Awakening on the old Game Boy. Gets me every time I play it. for thet other ones I have to think a little harder. I'd say there's taking my first steps in the world of Riven which was (and still is IMO) incredibly looking And the last one would be when Link stabs his sword in the forehead of Ganondorf in Wind Waker; That was the most graphical violence in all the Zelda games and I really didn't expect anything so visual. I think I might have been a little shocked by it, actually (though not necessarily in a bad way, as I still find WW to be my best Zelda game, just after Link's Awakening). Quote
yorkiejim Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 (edited) this isnt as much memerable in a good way, Playing the zelda games on the phillips CDI craptastic Intro ... it was worse than eating a red 2 by 4 brick....(i mean that theoreticly of corse ) the other two would be involving the KOTOR twist and my first time playing jedi academy. JINZONINGEN73 Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 One of the strongest memories, and one that had tears in the corner of my eyes, was when I get up to the end of Klonoa to fight this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=TDPXBTeN3Q8 Only to find out THIS: I kid you not, I leapt up off the couch and yelled, "Oh... oh NO FUCKIN' WAY!!! Oh my GOD!" And then, right before the camera freezes the last time, the little bastard smiles. He SMILES! Twisted, twisted stuff, especially considering there's the loose end that Klonoa had a Grandpa who got killed earlier in the game... who was he anyway? A relative that had come along, or a resident of Huepow's world acting as an imposter? Quote
