I am relatively new to Lego, and have built several Lego Technic sets and MOCs.  I have a question, and have no idea who to ask.  I received an email a while ago titled "Studio Newsletter" from the BrickLink Team.  It showcased a number of very interesting MOCs, listed as the Most Liked MOCs of '21.  I saw one that I would like to build if I could find the instructions to buy.  It is very different from what I have been building, and I wanted to try something new.  It is called, "The Medieval Fortress (Castle)" designed by someone named thomaslajon from France.  But I cannot find that MOC anywhere besides in that newsletter.  Of course I looked on Rebrickable, searched for the MOC and the designer, came up empty.  I found lots of other castles, and will buyanother set of MOC instructions and build one if I can't find that one.  But that one appealed to me.  I tried standard search engines, still nothing.  I must be missing something. Are the designs in the Studio Newsletter just prototypes or future MOC offerings?  I would appreciate any education on this.  Thank you in advance.

Yes! Yes! Yes!  That is exactly the design.  I just tried LEt.sGO on Rebrickable and found two MOCs from someone using that handle, but not this castle.  I am new enough at this that I do not understand why that MOC design is not easily available for purchase, especially since it seems to get such good reviews.

Thank you very much for your quick and helpful response!!!  If you know of other sites like Rebrickable where this MOC might be available, I would be interested.

To find it, I googled the MOC name and builder and added Bricklink to the end. The Ideas page might be the reason it is not so available, as the builder might not be allowed to share more than the pictures. It went to review but was not approved, however it could still be tied up.

Yeah according to the terms Ideas owns the rights to all submissions for 3 years. Under the portion regarding submissions not-selected in review regarding distribution of instructions it specifically says that one may not sell instructions; which in a previous discussion on the subject led some to believe that free/non-monetary distribution of non-approved Ideas instructions may be ok before the 3-years is reached but there was never any legal clarity and the Idea creator in question understandably didn't want to risk breach of the terms.

Thanks to both of you for all the info!  I don't understand that system, but it's okay.  I will have to research this topic a bit more.  In the meantime I'll find another castle to build.

Exactly why I do not share my LEGO creations on any TLG owned/operated platform. I love the design team and plenty of others who work for TLG, but Corporate makes everything a bit icky.

I know the recent Creator Castle has prompted plenty of alternative builds and if you dig around here on EB's Historic section you will find builders who have shared techniques and tips for building a great castle.

Have fun building :sweet:

I went and read the "Terms" in the link from Koalayummies.  I don't understand why would anyone sign up for that.  I have bought several MOCs from Rebrickable from several designers, I and enjoy MOCs as much or more than actual Lego sets.  My approach to building an MOC is completely different than a regular Lego set.  But I have no idea how much money people can make creating and selling MOC Instructions, or if it is enough to be a full time job designing MOCs.  In any case, I saw some beautiful designs in all areas of interest in that Studio Newsletter, and it seems sad they are not all available for purchase so people can build them. Oh well, back to Rebrickable.
