When I think of a good Pegasus they are usually white. Hopefully. Nightmare is a portmanteau of Night and Mare from a superstition about bad dreams being caused by nocturnal demonic goblinoid creatures called Mares. People believed that Sleep Paralysis and Night Terrors were caused by these beings sitting on a sleeper. Mare has since become a term for a female horse, so there's precedent for having an evil horse associated with bad dreams in Lego Dreamzzzzzzzzzzzz. It's be good to get some decent villain sets instead of having them frequently regulated to side builds with the current Lego trend Quote

Killian Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 I hope the success of Monkie Kid, Friends and Ninjago, and failure of Vidiyo, Nexo Knights and Hidden Side has convinced Lego not to screw Dreamzzz over with a heavy App focused theme Quote
BrickFit26 Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 Yes. I personally don't care for app play with LEGO. Quote

Hidden Side last wave had some serious lack of availability, especially the castle just vanished (likely a low production run), and Vidiyo openly got a cancellation announcement. Problem with Vidiyo was lack of normal sets at launch, and Beatboxes price was not popular at all, + it followed mainly negative publicity from another app theme, Hidden Side abruptly ending a few months before it. I mean the concept of the app for those recent City mission sets was fun doing once, but then turns into an annoyance when there's no instructions available otherwise, which to me was much worse design compared to those other themes. Either way, the Nexo game app has been dead for a while now, I have never used app for Hidden Side or Vidiyo, but at least those sets have both paper and pdf instructions to still enjoy as a LEGO brick product and build/rebuild in 10 , 20, 30 years. But apps shouldn't be part of LEGO sets or themes. But even themes without apps can have varied succes based on how it launches : Legend of Chima's first 2 years were split across 3 product lines, with speedorz, buildable CCBS figures and normal sets all at the same time. Ninjago is a good example of how a theme can still be strong, while it did start with spinners and cards, and spinners/flyers throughout the years, the main focus remained normal sets, even popular enough to get a Movie, 2 magazines and it's own Legacy subtheme remaking older sets again. I hope this theme can just be a "normal" theme with normal sets for a start, Elves lasted 4 years and didn't need Apps, CMF, Beatboxes, Spinners etc for that. In what ways were Vidiyo,Nexo Knights, and Hidden Side bad regarding the apps? Are there any themes/sets the uses an app that works well? Quote

I don't think the apps themselves were bad to the theme, and even optional, but especially Vidiyo launched with just CMF and Beatbox sets with heavy advertising on app, the Stage sets should've been part of launch, with perhaps more small sets/vignettes instead of those Beatboxes. Also doing a CMF right out of the gate, with no regular sets to back it up, was a strange move, as CMF have different buyers, and are also sold in a lot less places compared to boxed sets (in my country I never seen CMF in physical stores outside of official LEGO store) The Nexo media (books/magazines/tv show) and sets had "scan powers" all over the place, but it was still a full line of regular sets, but it maybe overdid the budget with the amount of books and promotions released at once. Hidden Side was the only theme that had actual features built into the sets to scan with the app, like colored bricks and panels inside or at the side of the builds, also had debatable set box design that was very different from the usual, I think more focus on physical ghost figures might have helped the theme a bit. Killian Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 I wonder if this new theme will be set in "our world" like Hidden Side, Alien Conquest etc. and some of the crazy vehicles will just be one offs built by Mrs Castillo or Mr Oz? Or if it'll be in some sort of alternate world like Chima/Nexo Knights/Ninjago where Crocodile Cars and Spacebuses are a thing? I think I'm hoping for the home world of the heroes to be basically our world, kinda like how Lego City is; but they're accessing the dream world in secret so it's not affecting society at large. Kind of like how the 7 heroes of the Hidden Side theme were fighting Ghosts every night, but most ordinary people had no idea. I've been thinking that there's not been many cartoons/TV shows based around dreams for lego to draw from, so this theme should feel pretty unique. The only dream related media I can think of are; Quote

The prototype models were so much better. The series also had cardboard boxes which wasn't smart. $20 for a minifigure also didn't sit well with parents. Blaming just one thing like apps is just being simple minded. Hidden Side and Nexo Knights several waves of sets. Clearly their failures are much different than Vidiyo. I think LEGO might get the hint that parents don't want apps with their LEGO. What are LEGO's biggest in house themes? City, NinjaGo, Monkey Kid and Friends. No apps. Quote

Did I miscount, because I think there were just 5 in hidden side Anyway, I think that is the direction the theme is going to go, but (and just a hidden side fan’s dream) what if the new characters from dreamzzz are related to the hidden side characters, that would be a nice tie in, sort of how monsters fighters, galaxy squad, and ultra agents are all related (there’s a Lego club magazine comic that shows lord vampire’s moonstones alert the galaxy squad aliens to come to earth, and after galaxy squad, Solomon blaze joins the ultra agents after fighting in galaxy squad, nick on planet ripple does a great job explaining it) Quote

I feel like if it fails, we may not see a new in-house theme for a long time. Quote

Killian Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Just randomly thinking. Lego hasn't reused Jack's hat/hair combo since the Hidden Side theme retired. It'd be cool if Mateo from Dreamzzz has it in a new colour combination. Or even Russell's hat/hair piece from the new Up set in a different colour scheme. We have loads of female hat/hair combo pieces, but not many male. Quote

At first I was thinking of the hat/hood element, but kinda weird, it's a very nice hairpiece, Russell's hairpiece will most likely not stay exclusive to the up set for long, though I'm a bit worried because the only other good male hat/hair piece out there is the Dustin/dipper hat piece, and it took us 4 years to get a recolor Quote

Lego is super unpredictable when it comes to these things, so there's no point in trying to predict it. Quote
