Under the blood tree

Under the blood tree

The carnivorous blood tree of Nocturnus was rare - thankfully - and deadly. As it digested its victims, the soil around its roots would stain red. This faded over time and only the collection of bones within the twisted roots hinted at its terminal hunger.

Build notes

  • This is my entry for the gradient category of Summer Joust 2022.
  • The minifigure harkens back to my CMF entry last year and the two Nocturnus troublemakers.

Ominous, and very, very cool.  Love the use of the octopus tentacles for roots and the dragon limbs as branches.

Epic tree, and very fitting of Nocturnus! I love the cool parts used!

This is pretty fascinating, great use of those dragon arms and a very striking (and Nocturnian!) tree color!

Spooky tree - well done.

One of my favorite entries from this year's Summer Joust! Some really creative parts usage throughout; I especially like the use of the octopus tentacles and dragon legs!

Oh wow, I missed the octopus tentacles when you posted this! That's great, and they pair well with the other odd parts use: the dragon legs! Great job with the gradient, the dark red and white are particularly nice. The figure is... interesting.  Perhaps I'd put the staff in the other hand, to not disappear in the red background. But it's a Nocty build pur sang, haha!

Reminds of the Blood Sands, as mentioned in the intro of the Nestlands Clan Embassy. This would fit perfectly there!

This is one very cool MOC. I like the atmosphere you created - also with a very fitting background. The tree itself is nicely built with cool part usages and nice colour choices ;-)

Thanks! Yes it would fit very well in the Blood Sands. Let’s add to the lore by placing this tree within that region.

Yes there is the octopus as well as the legs of the one Atlantis minifigs. They seems to add some nice organic shaping to the trunk.

That’s a very good point about the staff. As for the fig, I was channeling my two nocty mutants from my previous figbarf.

Thanks everyone else for the kind words too. It was a fun build to work on. Were it not for the gradient restrictions, I would have tried for more sophisticated foliage but couldn’t make it work within the colours. Next time!

Gorgeous.  Love the colors, and your background is very nice.  NPU on the dragon legs, and the white limb pieces are great.  Love the idea of the carnivorous tree, and the octopus legs as roots is great.  Well done!
