Feuer Zug Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Shortly after dawn, the bugler wakes the sleepy training camp deep in the forest of Gorkonnam. Standing next to the flagpole with their new banner, he blares out Reveille. As the raw volunteer "freedom fighters" rush to formation, a foreign military specialist working as a drill sergeant rolls his eyes at the tardy members of his platoon. Raising a knife hand, he begins screaming at the men. In front of the main tent, the camp commandant rolls his eyes. The volunteers had spent the previous night drinking and boasting how they were an invincible military force after they punched a few holes in paper targets that day. He hoped to train the men into a respectable force that wouldn't run at the first sign of a fight. Emerging from a low cloud bank, an Ag-24 ground attack aircraft piloted by Major Ivan "Weasel" Brickinov dives on the training camp. Weapons armed, he notices the formation and selects his cluster bombs. Watching the heads-up display, Weasel thumbs the pickle button and drops a pair of bombs from his aircraft. The casing split open and spew hundreds of bomblets across the camp. The bomblets use the latest PSIC technology. Some go after the vehicles and hardened structures, while others blanket the parade ground. The bugler notices the inbound aircraft, drops his instrument, and dives for cover behind the sandbags. The foreign advisors don't hesitate and do the same. Only a few of the volunteers try to run. Most freeze in place, jaws open in shock. The aftermath of the surprise attack is grim. The officer, the irate instructor, and the bugler are the only survivors. The two advisors recognized the aircraft as a PSIC built model and scratch their heads. Why did their own side attack them? The bugler helps bury his fellow friends over the next few days. The hard work and stench are brutal. He'd thought playing freedom fighter would be a fun gig, better than driving taxis. Now, he's not sure about anything. He overhead the advisors complaining about the friendly fire and his introduction to death unnerved him. In 48 hours, confused, mentally lost, and shaken to the core, he deserts. Quote
Mirror1810 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 As always great work. I really love the tent and the bugle. There are a lot of cool little details, like the little black craters where the bombs hit. The way you also did a little backstory for the bugler and how he is shaken by the things he witnessed, an amazing amount of thought you put into this. Quote
Dutch Thriceman Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Well done Feuer, maybe for maximum carnage next time pop a few minifig legs, heads and arms off too.. and add some red pieces for guts like rubber bands, red snakes, red plumes etc. Quote
ParmBrick Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Great scene, nice plane and very good explosions effects! For the next time I would try to add some more details on the ground beyond the vegetation, such as some stones, grass, or simply make the various ground textures even more believable by adding other colors (my thought), despite this well done! Writing the story is half the fun with this. 7 hours ago, paintballman said: Masacre !!! I like it !!! I separated one torso from the legs, but I'll do more next time. I've been slammed schedule wise and remembering the trans-red plates was somewhat of a stretch for me. 3 hours ago, ParmBrick said: Great scene, nice plane and very good explosions effects! Grazi. I felt the ground was more a well trodden parade ground, and left it as such. A dirt field isn't all that pretty or varying in texture. Quote
Mirror1810 Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Could you tell me how you did the tent? I always struggle with things made of fabric, especially Tests. Quote
Labrickchenko Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 It's amazing! Awesome job. The air attack was very explosive to see. Quote

As requested, a look at the tent interior. More fun with click hinges. When I first saw those Harry Potter books and the big hinged plates, I immediately thought they would make good tents and roofs. This is my first try at one. 9 hours ago, Labrickchenko said: It's amazing! Awesome job. The air attack was very explosive to see. Thanks. Quote

A follow up question, are the "walls" of the tent just pushed in, or are they attached in any way? Quote

The roof is connected to the sidewalls by the click hinges. Helpful picture below. I build the roof section first, getting the angle desired between the two sections with the click hinges (green circles). Next, I put click hinges on the other side of the roof and set them to vertical (yellow circles). I attached the walls to those click hinges. Finally, I added the bricks with studs on the sides (red circles), and attached the front and rear walls. Afterwards, I finished up by filling the gap on the roof with plates and jumpers. Some click hinge segments have a plate between them and the roof/walls to get the proper spacing for the knuckle. Edited August 3, 2022 by Feuer Zug Quote

Cluster bombs are fun because you get a lot of small "booms". I wanted to do more, but ran out of translucent dishes. 3 hours ago, firearmsfan said: Love how you did the build with the airplane in the sky! Thanks. I like aircraft and had built this one for a previous mission. It was a good time to bring it out again as airpower was requested. Quote
