Yeah when I said enough to be pawns that was 8 in total not just of the magazine ( 2 from the 2014 BP, 3 from magazines, 3 from the AT-TE) as someone who has aquired quite a lot of those 212th magazines (for my personal display collection, im not reselling them immediately for 3x the price like those menaces on bricklink) It's a total pain, no chance I'd have done it for 501st when there was a battlepack available for so long. So that's probably why the 501sts seemed less desired. I have only been able to find 2 stores near me that's selling the 212th mag so gathering a lot of them without being that one guy who goes in and buys the whole stock has been quite annoying. Still better than buying like 8 more AT-TEs or spending £10 per figure on bricklink. I want more battlepacks or hell, even blister packs would be a lot more convienient. 1 hour ago, omegabadbatch said: very good year with lego magazines. First hoth luke. Its ok. But Bo Katan? I couldnt belive it. And then 212 clone which is good to army building. I wonder what are next minifigures in magazines. I'm really hoping they do the phase 1 trooper in a magazine cus I missed the bus on those clone command post blister packs and i'm absolutely not paying £10 per figure for a battlepack trooper from last year. I'd also like to see the 187th trooper in the magazine to just tank the value of that um... tank? The sets not even retired yet and it's going for 50% above retail on the secondary market. I don't mind lego investors in theory but that's not investing that's just scalping. So it'd be real nice to blast the value of that set with more Lean Troopers on the market. Quote

Ah, I have like ten shops that stock it on my way to work and another 5 that are a close walk in the other direction. They have been doing minifigs more and more in the magazine, it used to be mostly builds but IMO most of the time they aren't worth the price of the magazine, which is a trend I like. I'm considering getting a subscription TBH, though maybe not as I can usually find a copy easy enough these days. I do wonder what fig we'll get next, I mean considering cloud city Luke even MBS /UCS figs aren't off the table so Kuill would be incredible but it shouldn't be expected, I'd guess Taun We would be a nice choice from a smaller set. Although my friends don't sound like they're going to give Bad Batch a chance to get to that stage tbh. I still wonder how much that interest will translate into an increase in sets considering Mando only seems to be getting 2 sets and a microfighter this season and that's one of the most popular shows around. Or maybe they hate making easy money? Because until Bad Batch they effectively didn't exist. They were pictured in promotional materials for RotS but there are none in the actual movie (at least probably not--there are a few clones in the far background in a few shots that might be plain, and the ball turret gunners in the gunship that drops off Yoda on Coruscant have markings in some shots and seem to lose them in others--but there are certainly none in focus). There are a very, very few scattered in the background of the later seasons of TCW, but again, not enough to have ever been a meaningful presence anywhere, and it's not clear who they're supposed to be in-universe, since there's never been a unit that was described as not having markings by the time the P2 armor was adopted; they only show up when the showrunners need to fill out a crowd shot in a context where they don't want to use any specific legion. The Imperial ones in Bad Batch are the first time they've ever appeared on screen for longer than a couple of frames. Quote

Kit Figsto Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 It’s probably because they didn’t really start heavily making clone stuff again until 2020/2021, and since then, they’ve devoted most of the army builders to various legions. In 2020, they did a 501st set and the AAT with a 332nd trooper. The 501st was highly requested, 332nd was relevant to TCW. Everything else was either based on other properties or larger (and therefore not really an army builder). 2021 went very heavy on Mandalorian/TBoBf sets, along with some OT remakes that were pretty necessary (it had been a while since we’d had cheap X-Wings and TIE Fighters, and since those sets are still on shelves as of 2023, I take it they sell very well). The only clone set we got was the Bad Batch shuttle. In 2022, the cheaper, army builder type sets saw the fighter tank (187th), clone accessory pack (P1 clones), snowtroopers, Hoth rebels, and Dark Trooper sets. Dark Troopers was based around Mando and I assume pushed back because of spoilers, and the other two were definitely supposed to be paired against each other (and tied in with both AT-ATs). Then we got the 2023 501st BP, the Swamp Speeder (which will almost assuredly contain at least 2-3 clones, legion unknown), and that’s basically all we know as far as cheap sets coming up. My point is that since they’ve started going back to making more TCW based sets, there have been approximately two or three army builders that haven’t been clone sets. The 501st set obviously sold well enough to justify a second, the P1 clones made sense as a way to tie into the Gunship, and we don’t know what’s coming with the swamp speeder. The only one that was a weird choice was the 187th, but I’m assuming they wanted to incentivize people to buy it by including some unique figures that are more eye-catching than just plain white armor. To someone that’s a casual collector or a kid that doesn’t care as much, they’d probably rather have a clone that’s purple than a white one. They’re not going to make literally every TCW/prequel set clone based, and they still have to make sets for the OT and the shows that are currently in production (evidently Mandalorian sets must sell well considering how many they make). It’s not because they “hate” any sort of fans, it’s because prequel stuff probably didn’t sell well enough in the mid 2010s to justify devoting large portions of their lineup to it, and now recently, it’s become more popular, but there hasn’t been a spot in their lineup to do a set that’s just plain clones. So don't go into May expecting the ship we saw today, they are similar in terms of shape and design philosophy but they're absolutely not the same. The only real difference is the colour, but that (I assume) is partially due to weathering over time and partially due to the animation having slightly more exaggerated colours, plus a possible paint job. I was already a bit surprised to hear that they were going to be making the Fang fighter, considering how similar it is to the Gauntlet (the one we already got), but there's no way they're making another Gauntlet so soon, particularly owned/piloted by the same character. Or maybe they hate making easy money? Lol, Lego doesn’t hate any fans. They just really like making sets off of a select group of Star Wars things, which right now is lots of Original Trilogy sets and lots of clone-based sets. (And sets for new show releases, but those are obviously a separate thing.) You can say Lego has made a lot of bad decisions in regards to how their Clone Wars sets have turned out, but that’s not malice, that’s just incompetence or laziness. And saying that they hate people because they didn’t make a specific set is absurd, because you could make up 50 other fictional sets and make the same argument. Saying Lego hates Clone Wars fans is ridiculous. How do you think sequels fans, Rogue One fans, Solo fans, (non-clone) prequel movie fans, or fans of any show other than Clone Wars or the Mandalorian are doing? Does Lego hate them as well? Quote
Meaf Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Surprised no one has already said this, but I think the main reason we've never gotten a substantial number of generic P2 clones is because the specific legion clones are way more collectable. Generics might be better for army building but having a bunch of different variations around gives people an incentive to buy a set they wouldn't have otherwise. If the 501st pack (the $30 one) and the Republic Tank both had come with generic P2s I suspect collectors would not have been nearly as interested in the latter set since they'd already have had their fill. Also this is just anecdotal but personally I think the clones just look more interesting and fun with colors on their armor. Quote

I actually literally just finished building the 2021 model (like, legitimately, I finished it, swooshed it around for a bit, then went to check EB, and am now writing this comment ), because I'd had it sitting in my closet for almost 7 months after getting it on clearance a while back and not building it yet. The episode the other day got me inspired to pull it out and build it. Anyway, I say that also because the set looks quite good in person, and there isn't really a drastic need for an update on the set. I do hope we get a Mandalorian version of Bo-Katan in either this set being revealed or the Fang fighter set, but I don't think it makes sense for it to be this one. What confuses me, though is that (I assume this is 75361, which is 526 pieces and listed at 44.99 EU), if they're revealing it on a Tuesday, it either has to be something from the first two episodes, or something non-spoiler-y. The problem with the latter is that usually when they do the merch reveals, they wait until after a set has already appeared in the show. However, the only things I can think of from the first two episodes that would warrant a set are the pirate snub fighter (which we're already getting), Bo-Katan's ship (not going to happen for reasons already spelled out, also even if it were, it wouldn't be that much cheaper than the last version)...and that's about it? If they went for a playset or location, the only real thing I can think of would be the robot/Bionicle looking thing, which I guess is plausible enough. It would probably have to be the large mech thingy plus the cage that Mando was in, and then I guess a brick-built version of the robot, plus Mando, Grogu, and Bo-Katan. That wouldn't be a terrible set, I guess, but it just seems unlikely. I can't really see it being a Nevarro location set either, so...not really sure what this set will be. Quote
