QuiggoldsPegLeg Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 The darksaber is nice and simplistic, crazy it took them this long to do it though. Bo-Katan looks good. The build is good, if probably oversized. It’s a decent set, but I’ll probably only get it if it’s on sale or I need it to push me over the threshold for a GWP. Quote
AD_Bricks Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Holy cow, that looks spectacular. I'm sure it'll have a figure of the cyborg guy that you can remove, just not shown due to the nature of the image. Quote
Darth Malgus Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Loved what I've seen, glad it strengthens the summer wave, not walking back my disdain for some rumoured sets, a welcome surprise nonetheless. That darkasaber mould is beautiful, as is Bo Katan's minifig. Quote
Flawless Cowboy Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 (edited) The mech looks superbly detailed. I hope it has an interior, or some feature where the humanoid cyborg is integrated into the set. The dark saber is finally here, and the Bo Katan figure is my favorite of the year so far. All the play sets this year (except for the battle pack side build) look display-worthy, as if they wouldn’t be out of place in an 18+ MBS set. People may not be getting the sets they wanted this year, but the sets Lego is putting out are seriously good looking. Edited March 14, 2023 by Flawless Cowboy Extra comments Quote
The Stud Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I really like the look of this set, though I do have some problems with it. The spider droid definitely looks a bit oversized and it looks like the cyborg thing itself is not included to be inside this thing, which is pretty disappointing. I also would have liked to see a print or sticker for the creepy eye on this thing. I would have also liked a side build of some sort, whether it be the Mandalorian rotisserie thing or Grogu’s new pram. And for $45, I wish they would have included another figure (one of those Alamites or I guess the cyborg itself). It kinda feels like they did the bare minimum in a lot of ways on this one, but in spite of that, I do still think is a good set. The build looks really cool and unique, which I appreciate. Like I’ve mentioned before, this set will really stand out in a Star Wars display. There’s not many other sets that we’ve gotten quite like this. And even though we could have used 1-2 more figures here, the updated Bo-Katan looks amazing and it’s sweet that we’re getting the updated helmet print and darksaber piece for Din Djarin. The set could be improved in some ways but I really dig it overall and will probably pick it up sometime in August or September. Quote

Surely it is, the mech itself is much too big to justify not sliding a little droid-figure style thing into it somewhere. Would be ridiculous if it wasn't. Quote
BacktoBricks Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 If the cyborg isn't included, then it's possible Lego didn't know it was controlling the mech. The material they were working off might not have shown that. Quote

THELEGOBATMAN Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Yeah, this set is great. The minifigures are well done, and the build is really good too. I just have no idea where the 526 pieces went into. It feels like a 30€ set, not a 45€ one. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 (edited) Very neat set Love the new version of Bo-katan and of course the unique Darksaber piece, about time if you ask me! I wouldn’t be surprised to see it pop up in other themes too, seems predestined to become a Ninjago weapon piece Not sure if the actual cyborg is included, but I guess not. Otherwise they’d probably show it in the main picture here. As @BacktoBricks points out, it’s possible the designers didn’t know it was a mech rather than a droid Edited March 14, 2023 by BrickBob Studpants Quote
SEmrys Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 In theory I wasn't sold on the idea of this set but in reality it's really nice to see something a little different from the SW line. Figures are great, love the simplicity of the Darksaber (the custom moulds are cool but they don't look much like Lego lightsabers) and that Bo-Katan is awesome. May have to buy this one to lurk in the backstreets of my Mos Eisley display. Quote
Goofster Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 (edited) Yeah definitely gonna buy this, finally a Bo-Katan with scuffs, wear and grit. The front part looks weird, i dont think it has an eye so maybe replace it with the minions one? also still no black jumpsuit too, the black really pops in the mando show... Clone OPatra Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 People like this? I see a couple of good figures with a big grey blob for a heck of a lot of money. That darksaber piece is a completely weak effort - hard to be conclusively sure but it looks to me like the white rim line is just lighting, and this pieces should have had some crackling white printing or dual moulding along it. I also call complete BS on LEGO continuing to use the standard lightsaber hilt here, as the darksaber hilt looks nothing like any other lightsaber. They may claim "it's charming for all LEGO lightsabers to have the classic part" - except of course Dooku and Ventress, whose hilts, just like the darksaber, look nothing like and are a different shape from other hilts. Agree, it was rather lame and it doesn’t seem printed. In my opinion, a black katana still does the trick better than what is offered in this set. Quote

Credit where it’s due, the build itself looks great (overwhelming greyness aside) and that new Bo Katan is leagues better than the one we got in 2021. I’m interested to see what features there are to this, wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a holding cell for Din underneath the droid. I do agree about the darksaber though, I wouldn’t have minded if the entire thing was a single mould if it meant getting the overall shape and ‘crackling’ effect of the blade right, the latter part is an especially important part of the weapon that Lego didn’t really bother to do anything about. I’m glad Lego finally decided to make a new mould, but it should have been much better given how long they’ve taken to come up with this. Given just how detailed the specialised weapons in themes like Ninjago get year after year, there’s no way that level of effort couldn’t have been applied towards the darksaber IMO, I mean just look at the Blades of Deliverance from that theme’s summer 2020 lineup. As an aside, I’m looking forward to seeing some more colourful sets this year. Edited March 14, 2023 by Kaijumeister Quote
Hhalcyon Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I'm relatively new to Lego so forgive me if this is a dumb question but when do we generally get the official reveals for the summer wave? are we gonna have to wait until August to see most of it or do they reveal it much earlier? Quote

Since most of them release in August, we'll probably see them revealed throughout the coming months as new shows come out, and the ones that aren't based on new shows will likely be revealed at LEGO Con, or if LEGO's feeling mean, late July-ish. benderisgreat Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 New Mando set looks great! Bo-Katan figure looks way better than 2021 one. Hopefully she gets new headprint and hairpiece too. As for new darksber while it's better than just 4l bar it's still not great. Pic is poor quality, but it doesn't look like new blade piece has white prints like Darksber should have. Honestly I expected Lego to make Darksaber as one piece with blade and hilt molded together, but oh well. Quote
CF Mitch Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Really loving the new Mando set The spider-y mech actually looks great, and the figures are amazing of course Not entirely sure about the Darksaber yet (I definitely agree hilt variants are in order by now), but it's better than what we got so far! Regards, Mitch Quote
Goofster Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 This set reminds me of the armored marauder for some reason, but tbh i think the darksaber is good, we don't necessarily need a new mold, the current hilt isnt the best thing, but we're already getting a lot of new stuff, the huge flaw i'd say is excluding the white printing but thats fixable like mando's helmet. Quote
ArrowBricks Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Yeah…I don’t like this set so far. I’ll wait for the rest of the pics to be revealed. My main issues are the build itself; not sure it looks like what we saw, especially the EYE. Yes, there are plenty of explanations for potential inaccuracies but still. Figures are nice tho! Interested to see what’s in the Fang Fighter now! Had a feeling Bo would be found in that set. Darksaber is a needed improvement, but I’m surprised at the hilt still. Either way, it’s better than what we currently have. Overall, I think I bit of a meh set if I’m honest. Prefer the Snubfighter. Quote
Goofster Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 This has me wondering, is this REALLY the mandalorian set we should've gotten? We're gonna get way cooler stuff in the season, so our last mando set for the year is really just a giant grey blob? But that Bo is peak lego, they can make amazing stuff sometimes like sam wilson captain america Quote
