LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

The Mandalorian Fang Fighter Vs Tie Interceptor is actually a fantastic set. 

It will be interesting to see if Lego have missed any better potential figures. 

The Tie can literally be used as an OT vehicle which is really nice. 

All I know, is that as a child I’d have loved it. So much playability and would make the perfect gift, especially Christmas if you’re lucky. 

Combine that with the N-1 Starfighter and the Snubfighter and wow. 

Obviously I’d wait for it to go on sale, but if it’s priced nicely I think it’s a solid 9/10.

Perhaps I need to see more pictures of it when it's officially unveiled but merciful Zues that X-Wing looks kind of rough. The big gap between the wings when closed simply should not be there, especially at this scale. R2 is comically small and sits way too low. The nose looks excessively chunky, and there's too much use of dark bluish grey for weathering on it. The larger engines look nice, however  as does the back. 

Overall though sometting just seems off about it from first impressions, but I suppose it makes saving for the Venator easier. Disappointing though as I've been wanting a UCS X-Wing for a while and was expecting them to hit it out of the park given other recent UCS sets.

Really disappointed considering the potential.

You may be right about the fuselage, but as I compare the screen to my 2013 version, the new fuselage is smaller than the previous one. So if it's fat, 2013 is jumbo!

I'm having a hard time deciding on this. I may need to see it in person, but then that means no May promo and waiting, if I didn't have the 2013 I would probably grab anyway. Guess I have a month to decide!

What’s peoples opinions on if the Ventor is going to have a a full interior or not?  I really hope it does as I’ve loved how the AT-AT and Razor Crest turned out, it’s a fantastic cross between ‘MBS’ and UCS.

I doubt it will. Also, kind of hope it doesn't. I want it to fit with the UCS Star Destroyer. Maybe a small interior bridge section at most. With the piece count and price, I personally don't see it happening.

I would guess very similar if not identicle to the SD. Falcon, AT-AT, and Razor crest made sense to incorporate some interior. Being that the SD didnt have anything, I doubt the Venator would. That being said, some of its features could lead to something like maybe removable hanger doors on top to reveal fighters etc.

I mean I would love it to, I feel it’s the best of both worlds and fans of interiors and display pieces both get what they want, especially on that scale they could incorporate a lot from different scenes etc.  however I think you’re both right as it only comes with two minifigures which usually indicate little to no interior.

Yeah, the design of the vehicles are pretty descent but the figure selection is awful.

I’d expect no interior BUT it’d go a long way for me if it has opening hangar doors & a couple micro scale ships. It’s such a cool aspect.

Yeah, I'd expect at most we see this. They usually only do interiors if it's actually minifig scale or close, which the Venator will not be.

This will definitely be the deciding factor in whether or not I go for the Venator. I know a case can be made that the UCS ISD never contained any microscale TIE Fighters or anything, but in the Venator’s case its capability to deploy ships from the central hangar doors has always been constantly highlighted in media and is a large part of the ship’s appeal. Just imagine being able to swoosh some microscale Jedi Starfighters around the main model, that would be awesome! 

On the topic of Rex, we know Lego will obviously be including him in a System scale set within the next year, but the question is what could it be? The fact that we’re getting a Gunship and the Swamp Speeder set, not to mention the January battle pack, really only leaves his Y-Wing.

Also not sure if this was brought up already or not, but the Ahsoka figure from the new show doesn’t have a new montrail piece according to the Reddit user that’s been giving out info over the last few days. I’m glad the figure will have arm printing / new prints on the headpiece etc. but I still feel really disappointed about this? We’ve been receiving so many new moulds this year for various characters, Ahsoka really needed one IMO.

I could definitely see one or two removable panels on top revealing some sort of hangar with multiple microscale ships. It won't be the deciding factor for me, though. The thing should look amazing on its own.

Lego needs to remake Mando’s N1 and make it not suck. Children’s mocs outdo Lego’s effort on that one, and I have a feeling it’ll be as iconic as the razor crest so it feels extra bad

The interceptor is great. The fang fighter looks beautiful, but I'm kind of mad they didn't make it rotate, it can't be that hard. When I was like 12 I made a moc that, don't get me wrong, looked awful, but was able to rotate. Even just a rotating cockpit would be better than nothing.

And yeah, the figure selection is, as it seems to be for quite a few of these summer sets, pretty rough both in quantity of figures and figure choices.

We know lego is perfectly fine altering what a set is based on (AT-TE from AOTC to ROTS) to put a desirable fig in the set, or just put figs into something they never technically appeared in so long as it still makes a level of sense (I.E. 332nd with the swamp speeder. We never saw any, but it's a standard GAR vehicle.). My personal money's on an AT-AP, as the last one was 5 years ago, and the one before it was 5 years before that. Maybe he'll be in a droid gunship instead, though.

I second this. Season 3 has made me love the N-1, but that set just doesn't resemble it to me. It feels oversized and clunky, and I think it really suffers from a lack of any sort of silver. I get they can't drumlaquer the whole thing, but some pearl silver accents would go a long way towards making it better. A $40 starfighter with Mando, The Child, and R5-D4 would be much better, and it's one of the few times I'm actively hoping for a remake of a set currently on shelves.

Venator might have an opening hangar with microscale vehicles but that would be the only interior we could expect, especially with only 2 minifigs in the set.

Will be interesting to see how big it is. With a slightly lower price there's no way it will be as big as the 115cm 2019 ISD, especially after the recent pricehikes. But I don't see it being perfectly to scale at 78cm either as that seems too small for the price/piececount even for 2023. Maybe in the 90-100cm range?

That's just not what I said you can rather have whatever you like I could care less but saying a UCS set @ $350 is the same as a playscale set @ $120 is silly.

Honestly any generic GAR or CIS vehicle, or with an Anakin or Ahsoka Starfighter. Or a bad batch season 1 set (obviously he has a different outfit in season 2 and rebels, which also rules out the twilight as it would only really make sense if he was phase 1, but who knows).

Yeah I’ve repeated this before. It really needs a remake that appreciates the source material. Currently, the Lego version fails on so many aspects. It would sell insanely well.

Like all their pseudo-luxurious 18+ black boxes. It's a G-string so they don't have to recognize they don't care anymore. When you look at the wonderful locker boxes of the 80' a & 90', what a loss !

I wouldn’t go that radical, I do just think it’s a bad choice rather than a sign of lack of care necessarily.

But, there’s no getting away from the fact it looks very lazy on their part.

Don't even have to go back that far. Look at the box art on UCS sets in the few years just before the black 18+ boxes, 2017 Falcon, 2018 Y-Wing and 2019 ISD. Those graphics with the black borders were the peak of UCS box art IMO.
