This is an interesting comparison I saw posted on another site - I don't think its fair to compare to the original model, but as a point of reference I think it is useful

Exactly this. When you compare side by side of the ucs a-wing, y-wing snowspeeder and other larger ships, the comparison is quite favourable. No one is expecting exact, but get the shaping right. And, as someone who was excited to see what lego could do with modern techniques, it's a massive case of them dropping the ball.

Which I know is just my personal feelings, and others are entitled to differ. If others think this is good and everything they hoped for, I'm happy for you. But for me, this is a bigger shame than ... not having enough figures in a non minifig scale gunship that irked so many.

Yeah, but it's pretty embarrassing when the $50 playset from a couple years ago does a better job than the $240 adult display model.

As an owner of that model, I disagree

What gets me is the nose. It's too wide at the end. Should have been a stud or 2 narrower. Which is difficult due to the slight slant of the nose and you want the end cap to be slightly larger. But it just needs to taper more and have a less blunted nose. The rest is good for me. Still weighing if I will buy. Usual wait for the reviews to see the set better.

Wonder when the May 4th information for promos and the like will come out. Planning a trip on May 6th, but don't want items to run out...

I take it that they aren't doing a celebration exclusive this year, I know something said the endor brickheadz but that doesn't seem to line up so I'm assuming that was a mistake, maybe they are early access or something?

Early access with a ribbon most likely like they did for the Kenobi ones last year.

I'll be at celebration on Monday but I don't think I'll bother looking for it, doesn't interest me too much, if they'd done Lando on his own that might be a different story.

A lot of this seems wish-listy and we don't know anything concrete at this time.

I really like the new dark saber and Bo Katan, but I would rather get her in the Fang Fighter dual pack if that can happen. Don't like the build as much.
Speaking of that, wouldn't it make sense for Bo to have the dark saber. If Mando had won it, then lost to this creature and Bo beat the creature, then shouldn't she have it? Seems similar to the Elder Wand with Snape, Harry, and Malfoy in HP. Oh well...

Spoiler

Just want to point this out after the most recent episode of Mando...will properly equip Bo with weapons I think.

It's just a chonker. It looks like an X-Wing that's spent 2 months on a cruise, doing little else than 'patrolling' the buffet table. Couple this with the goofy engines which aren't just a little oversized, but are probably half again as large as they should be, and the wings opening almost twice as wide as the prototype, and this thing is a solid fail.

It always amazes me when Lego drops the ball on a big, expensive set like this - especially one where there are so many references to what the object they are creating should look like (and so many fan-based MOCs that use fewer pieces to achieve staggeringly better results). Supposedly, Lego designs go through a multi-stage review process before they even get to the internal play/build testing phase. So... what happened here? Did every single middle management type just nod and say "good enough"...? Because this isn't good enough - not for that part count AND licensing AND what they're asking for it.

Think you’re overblowing it, most people are fine with the design and the average consumer who isn’t a Lego fanatic will be even more fine.

As to the MOCs, most don’t even come close to the stability of Lego UCS sets and don’t try to.

At its highest echelons, Lego is a hobby for perfectionists. And you can see that on Eurobricks. People who put in maximum effort draw the highest attention for their creations (and, generally speaking, you can tell when someone has done literally everything they can to get as close to true shape as possible).

Now, that's not true of the for-kids general Lego releases - flaws there are fine. But with big, exclusive, highly visible, almost-certainly-intended-for-AFOLs UCSs sets like this, yes, I would expect it to be a concern for Lego; I expect them to put in their best effort.

And this isn't.

Oh the drama. Lego has never hit on that mark, a single sticker, a blue technic pin visible when it shouldn’t be, the myriad of minifigure inaccuracies, inconsistent brick colors, should be enough to spoil this illusion of “perfectionism”, so I’m not sure why you’d be surprised by the fact that Lego’s D2C sets aren’t crafted to the standards of the highest ambitions. Because they never have been, because it’s ultimately a toy company, and if you’re looking for perfection, Lego, which is an abstraction of reality in the form of children’s plastic colored bricks, is not for people seeking it.

So about that TIE Interceptor set...

Spoiler

Why didn't we get Axe Woves? So it can be more massable, that's why. Same reason we only get Mando as the only main character. I own four of his Beskar armor without even trying. He's just ridiculously common, and a few more won't hurt. If only we can get Luke Skywalker, or Obi-Wan, or Vader in so many sets (Vader's the only one who comes close now, tbh).

Also, now can we get B2s, Lego? Pretty please?

Don’t think Lego cares about making anything but battlepacks massable. Most consumers buy one set. For reference, the tie bomber is a generic, common imperial ship and yet it comes with 2 unique, named minifigures and only one generic.

Hell, the gunship this year being Coruscant themed as opposed to plain is all the evidence you’d need.

Fair, but also look at the latest TIE Fighter, the TX-130, arguably the AT-TE and so on. One named character, multiple generic ones. So if one did decide to buy multiples, they aren't "stuck" with a ton of one specific character (also, Mando is at this point very generic, as he's in almost every set in the sub-theme).

And let's be honest: even the Coruscant Guard Gunship can be bought multiple times over (it does serve the galactic capital, after all). In its own debut, they featured at least a dozen of them.

Man I have wavered on this thing. I thought it was going to be a 100% purchase even though it would be my first UCS double dip! But the first pics just didn't scream "better". Some side by side pics, as well as the speed build showing you don't have to have the wings that high, may have won me over.

But I think it's mainly because I haven't bought a UCS in awhile!

R2- Round 2- improvement but decided to save $$ since I have the original

AT-AT -Too expensive, but amazing!

Land Speeder- Nice build, but I never loved a speeder that much!

Razor Crest- Too Expensive, plus had a really good MOC

New X-wing- I guess I'll get it because I don't want to go three years on skipping the May UCS!

I think the easier explanation is: don’t give everyone everything they want in one set, because they’ll have less reasons to buy the others.

As to the Gunship, only the most hardcore fans would even recall the single episode and the single scene you see the Coruscant gunship. Lego probably focus tested and found a red gunship was considered really neat, more so than a white gunship, and ran with it. Another point against mass ability of the gunship is the fact that it comes with three name characters and only two generic shock clones. No one is buying an extra $140 gunship for two clones, they’re hitting bricklink.

People bought multiples of the 2013 Gunship, which had no standard troops, so that argument is invalid. Also, yes only the most hardcore fans (like myself) remember the Coruscant Gunship. This doesn't make it any less desirable to army builders. Trust me, army builders will, in fact, get more than one.

Seeing better quality photos of the new UCS X-Wing, I have to agree that the oversized nose and fuselage are disappointing. The oversized 6x6 engine intakes are a bit easier to accept given that the old 4x4 intakes were too small and 5x5 would likely require several new parts.

Most army builders would only buy 1-3 plain gunships, what makes you think we'd want multiple of a ship which may as well be a named unique.

I really do hope they don’t butcher the summer-fall wave in any way.

On paper it’s close to the golden years.

First time in years I’ve planned on getting many sets all at once close to release.

This is providing they are all fine, of course.
