Yeah, I think that it's worth noting that the regular consumer is not going to be buying more than one gunship, C Guard or not.

Or, in other words:

"average person buy 3 gunships a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person buys 1 gunship per year. Gunship Georg, who lives in cave & buys over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted"

"a little red plating"
Comrade, it is 93% red what are you talking about?

And sure, if someone is insane enough to buy 20 regular LAAT's maybe they would buy 2 of a coruscant guard gunship. But the fact that the bought 20 of one, and 2 of the other illustrates my point entirely, it's not as versatile.

Also the amount of people who are going to be buying 3 gunships is already like 1% of Lego fans, the amount of people who own 20 gunships is probably like 30 (total, as in 30 seperate individuals out of 8 billion.) They're not of note and should not be used as an argument to to illustrate how good or bad a set is.

It's just a red gunship, it's literally not that deep, bro. Difference between a white gunship with red stripes and a red one with white stripes? Color inversion.

Nice way to sidestep the fact that someone out there is open to buying multiple Coruscanti gunships. Also you have literally nothing other your own bias to make the argument that only 30 people on Earth own 20 Gunships, which makes your argument lose credibility. I made a hypothetical argument that simply provides context for someone wanting multiple gunships of a distinct variant. Most people won't buy multiples of any Gunship, so complaining about this particular Gunship is absurd, end of story.

And snickers are amazing, what are you talking about?

And sure the coruscant gunship isn't unique. Considering that we only actually see this vehicle once, and it's never even on coruscant, that kinda tells me there's probably a couple hundred at most. A vehicle that is used for special forces, seemingly on extremely sensative diplomatic missions may not be "one of a kind" but if you looked into every single battle that ever happened in the clone wars, what do you think the chance of seeing one of them is? If your answer is anything above 0.5% you're being very optimistic.

Where do you get these numbers? And how does the strength of a fictional military relate to the size of a Lego army? It doesn't matter! We never see 501st specific gunships in the entire series, and that's a popular MOC variant. We never see any legion variants in the series (aside from Plo's Bros) so what's your point?

It's a Gunship, it's gonna look cool, some will buy only one, others will buy two, some will buy more. Why are we arguing over this?

1. Because reselling is a lucrative market

2. The most recent x wing doesn’t even come with an interchangeable piece for Luke’s five stripes. So in this case it’s even less desirable to buy multiples since they don’t give you a chance to accurately make another red squadron fighter

99% of people don’t buy multiples and Lego certainly didn’t omit a named character from the fang fighter set because of army builders. They don’t care. It was almost definitely because of a lack of access of information, same reason the spider tank is missing its droid

1. I know that, it's still a single set being bought multiple times, regardless of who buys it.

2. I literally said that every X-Wing before 2021 had this feature. It was clearly a selling point in the past. Just because it didn't happen the one time doesn't erase all the times it was a marketing strategy. Marketing strategy is like a playbook: multiple tactics for various scenarios. There is no one marketing tactic that a company uses. Sometimes multiple marketing strategies can be used at once (desirable ship + ability to sell two or desirable figure lineup + desirable ship - likelihood to buy 2 (AKA 2021 X-Wing). And besides, it's counterpart set only came with generic figures (TIE Fighters are meant to be army built, everyone knows that. Yes, even Solo's)

I simply gave Lego an out for not giving us him, there's no need to argue about it. Let's just agree that both opinions have validity. Most people don't army build, those that do will appreciate a nice new generic Mando, and concept art leads to set inaccuracies. If we get Bo-Katan's Season 2 entourage, we still have options for them, so not coming with the Fang Fighter is not the end of the world.

I can only imagine the people saying "army builder sets with named characters are bad" aren't army builders themselves because if someone bought 10 Republic Fighter tanks I guarantee they don't mind having 10 mace windus. If nothing else you can hold onto them in nice bags and resell them and make a bit of your money back.

Nobody said that. I loved the Jedi and Clone Troopers battle pack from 2018, extra Jedi torsos, Mirialan heads, that new skirt piece? Mace Windu's clone armor gauntlets, his purple lightsaber, new reddish brown faceprint? Even named characters have lots to offer en masse. Having generic troops just makes it easier to buy said set multiple times.

So then it being a Coruscant Guard Gunship shouldn't really matter then, should it? 1 out of 4 Gunship sets has been a distinct variant, that's really good odds.

Also if someone is buying 1 gunship per each year, wouldn't they still have like 10 by now? I know the 2008 Gunship sold like hotcakes, a lot of clone army collectors had like a dozen by the time 2013 rolled around. It's not totally unheard of, but admittedly unlikely.

I mean absolutely no offense to anyone involved, as this entire forum of which I am an active participant is about discussing lego's plastic toys, but "arguing over the army-building capabilities of a $140 set based on it's color scheme" may be the crowning achievement of this forum. Anyway, let me senselessly wade into the debate anyway:

As others have pointed out, ANYONE army-building $140 sets is probably crazy enough, wealthy enough, or both, to be buying multiple no matter the color scheme, and even if the 4 gunship army builders don't buy as many since it's coruscant themed, it's a statistically insignificant amount of money. As another point, the 501st set, which was at least in part actually meant for army-building, featured the BARC and AT-RT in 501st colors. I dare you to say that sales would have changed at any statistically significant level if they had been standard GAR colors.

I do find it odd that they're doing the coruscant colors, but ironically, since I have a modded 2013 one, I'm actually more interested in this than if it was in the generic colors.

The funny thing is, the Mando included in the fighter set ISN’T generic, he’s clearly representing the guy standing to the right of Woves. He probably isn’t named for the same reason Woves isn’t included: Lego didn’t know. It has nothing to do with throwing a bone to army builders lol.

Oh, wait, I said that. I do think the battle packs are better when they come with non-unique characters. That said, stuff like the fighter tank falls into a grey area due to the price, so I don't mind them having a named character.

My personal ideal battle pack ratio is 3 generic troops, 1 higher-ranked/rarer troop, but it's not a hard and fast rule. I liked the 501st specialists pack as it had non-unique, if not entirely generic, troops, and if a battle pack has 2 generic and 2 rarer troops or 3 troops and a named character, I'll still get multiple if I like the faction.

Neither are the Mandos from the last battlepack, yet most people got a few of those. He's a blue mando, he's cool. There are tons of blue Mandos two of this guy can't hurt (mix-n-match him with a spare Death Watch or something)

I agree with this. No one is expecting people to buy tons of Gunships, but the color scheme is irrelevant.

That's fair. Army builders are meant to bolster your standard troops, so it's only reasonable to expect more of them in such a set.

What is everyone planning on purchasing based on the rumours currently?

My spending plans are a little more nebulous this year with college and moving into a house next semester, so for Lego, I'm mainly prioritizing sets that are retiring this year and then trying to keep up with Star Wars. I'll probably space out my purchases quite a bit. My birthday's in mid-September so I'll probably make a Lego Store trip to get at least the three Ahsoka sets then. I'll probably get the Coruscant Guard Gunship close to release as well. All of the Mando S3 sets will probably be my next priority; I'm just waiting on deals for all of them because I don't really love any of the sets and since I've been lukewarm on the season itself, I'm not in a huge rush to get them. That just leaves Yavin IV, the TIE Bomber, extra 501st Specialist Battle Packs and the Swamp Speeder (the latter of which I'll definitely try to army build when it gets discounted) for me to get throughout the rest of the year and possibly throughout the early part of next year. Additionally, I skipped the Advent Calendar last year but I might try to get it this year, as well as this Holiday Special diorama.

For remaining 2023 sets: I'm saving the two 2023 dioramas for next year. I'll either get them on sale or wait to save up my VIP points so I don't have to pay those ridiculous prices. The UCS Venator is a long-term purchase that I'll get after I finish college and get caught up on the other large Star Wars UCS sets, so long as it sticks around for two or more years. I have mixed feelings on the UCS X-Wing so I'm not sure if and when I'll get that one. Everything else that I didn't talk about (which isn't much lmao) is probably a skip for me.

My planned pickups are:

- Yavin IV Rebel Base: It's a set I've been dreaming of since I first got into LEGO, and I think the size of the set is perfect for what it is. Having a ton of minifigs certainly doesn't hurt either (especially if we get one or two new ANH side characters we've been missing).

- Coruscant Guard Gunship: I know this is a controversial set for some, but even if it's far less iconic I personally much prefer the paintjob of this iteration, and in general variation in LSW is great (both variation of individual ships and color variation across the line as a whole). Also, those minifigs SLAP, in particular I'm excited for Palpy and the new Shock Troopers.

- Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor: The Interceptor is one of the cleanest playscale ships they've ever done, and I think the minifig selection is excellent. Enough said.

- Tenoo Jedi Temple: Obviously a very silly set, but it has a lot of great prints and some amazing minifigures. Definitely one I'll pick up if I can find it for 20% off.

- Executor Super Star Destroyer: A gorgeous display piece that's very large for the price and will go great with the Nebulon-B Frigate from 2020 (one of my favorite Star Wars sets).

That's probably it, though I might also pick up the LEGO Holiday Special set if it looks nice and has a good value.

Everything clone-related (minus Yoda's starfighter, if it isn't anything special) - gunship, swampspeeder, even UCS Venator at some point, but I won't rush it as I'll wait for a discount. Tie interceptor vs. fang fighter for sure, T6, the Ghost and also the Executor, maybe Death Star 2 duel (not sure, will probably BL the figs, the same with Yavin set unless it really catches my eye)... oh man, writing this list I realised how long it actually is  I hope that the sets will be good once we have some pictures

Good approach to the "What are you getting?" Q. I edited ^your post for my own purchasing plans. I could change my mind, though, once I see them. In addition to the sets, I'll probably try to collect all of the new characters (e.g. Mando Fleet Commander but not the other figs).

Getting the fang fighter and mandalorian fleet commander from the tie interceptor set. (not the whole set)
Getting Bo Katan from the Mando spider set (not the whole set)
Around 13 swamp speeders. I don't care how the build will turn out or if the Vaughn figure only has a different visor. I just care about the 3 troopers being standard.
3 gunships, one for the army, one for the senator transportation and one as investment.
Boba Fett mech cause I don't have any OT Boba figs.
Maybe the Vader mech if the figure is different than what I already have in my collection and maybe the stormtrooper mech if the helmet is different cause the new one sucks.
Endor diorama is a maybe if I get it on some kind of sale or someone on bricklink is only selling the speeders.
Yoda's starfighter is a maybe depending on who is the third figure or if even there is one cause I have the older set version already. I will also buy it if it's a battlefront version cause I love that design.

Not gonna buy Ghost or Venator cause of the figures.

Yes, this is the exact example that comes to mind.

I was so disappointed with the Bad Batch Shuttle and the Mando Fighter (especially).

I agree here. but I ultimately bought the shuttle for the figs, and then built a much better MOC with it, and then did a complete MOC for the Mando N-1.  There are always options available

Heck I think out of the 23 sets I currently display, 11 are original Lego UCS/set build, and 12 are MOC's.

For someone that has mainly been UCS oriented, although sets with clones and mandos the last few years is making a liar of me. I'm looking at the following.

Mini SSD- Overpriced, not mindblowing, but I will never buy a SSD if they ever do one again, especially because nowadays that would probably be $1000!

Ghost- I sold my original for a tidy sum, sitting on the shelf with other sets, it just didnt hold up. I hold this one does!

UCS X-wing- A double dip, not in love with it, but I think I am in

Gunship- Clone wars really made me fall in love with this thing. I have the UCS, but like the idea of one this size, and as I have the UCS kinda excited its a variant.

Yavin- I never buy playset styles, but I am intrigued and if it looks good at all, im in!

Swamp Speeder- Just for the clones

Ahsoka Ship- Huge rebels fan, need Sabine, hope the ship is decent

This list is much longer than most years!

We have a lot of different countries and cultures represented on EB. So please keep in mind that some people see certain comments as "arguing" and others see them as "stating opinion." A good set of rules for everyone on the forum is 1) Don't Take Offense and 2) Give People The Benefit of the Doubt. In my opinion, on this forum it's only arguing if people start to get upset. Otherwise we're just sharing strongly held opinions.

Exactly, this argument is going for way to long, ever since we found out about the colors, i also prefer the red gunship over a generic one, y'all have to be very wealthy to buy multiple of these sets in the first place, i get that some of you want the generic one for MOCs, army building and stuff, but you realistically aren't gonna get more than maybe 3 of these anyway, move on.

MAY 2023

 • 40591: [Death Star GWP] (289 pcs)

Yes, with 75355.

 • 75346: Pirate Snub Fighter (35€, 285 pcs)

Probably. It's a very simple set that's not really all that interesting fundamentally, and it's overpriced, but I'm a sucker for a swooshy little spaceship in that size class.

 • 75348: Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs TIE Interceptor (100€, 957 pcs)

Probably not, but I want to.

 • 75352: Emperor's Throne Room Diorama (100€, 807 pcs)

No.

 • 75355: X-Wing Starfighter (240€, 1949 pcs)

Yes, with 40591.

 • 75356: Executor Super Star Destroyer (70€, 630 pcs)

No, but I would if it was an ISD.

Tenoo Jedi Temple:

No.

Endor Speeder Bike diorama:

No, but I would if it was a $40 set with the same minifigs, the same speeder bikes, and a small tree. Maybe if I can get just the speeder bikes and figures on Bricklink, or get the whole set at a steep discount later.

AUGUST 2023

 • 75359: [Republic Swamp Speeder] (27€, 108 pcs)

No.

 • 75360: [Yoda's Jedi Starfighter] (35€, 253 pcs)

No.

 • 75365: [Yavin IV Rebel Base] (160€, 1067 pcs)

No.

SEPTEMBER 2023

 • 75354: [Republic Gunship] (150€, 1083 pcs)

Maybe. I want a classic AotC Gunship, not a Coruscant Guard version. I'm not interested in the figures. The price is a lot higher than the last version and the parts count is lower. The only thing this set has going for it is being Gunship. Plus I'll have to persuade my wife. But I do want a Gunship, so I might end up getting it after all.

 • 75357: [The Ghost] (170€, 1394 pcs)

Maybe. The Ghost isn't one of my favorite starships and I want a Gunship more. But there are so many things wrong with the upcoming Gunship, and this Ghost has enough parts to be much better than the first version. I'd have to persuade my wife.

 • 75362: [Ahsoka's Shuttle] (70€, 599 pcs)

Probably not. I don't like the live action filming model for the T6 shuttle, even though I like the animated version a lot. I'm a sucker for a swooshy spaceship though, so I might get it after all.

 • 75364: ['Ahsoka'] (100€, 1056 pcs)

Not enough information to say. It's got a good ppp. Could be interesting.

 • Boba Fett mech (15€)

Maybe if the figure is a big improvement on the ESB figure from the 2019 Slave 1, or on the RotJ figure from the 2017 Desert Skiff.

 • Darth Vader mech (15€)

Probably. It's the cheapest set to have Vader with arm printing, and I don't find the gray landscape duel or the TIE Bomber very interesting. (Though the Bomber is in every way a much better set than the Duel.)

 • Stormtrooper mech (15€)

No.

 • Buildable Chewbacca (200€)

No.

OCTOBER 2023

 • 75367: [Venator Star Destroyer UCS] (650€, 5374 pcs)

No. I want a $70 midi scaled Venator like the upcoming SSD, not a full UCS model.
