And thought they'd want to tye in to the new game! Kaijumeister Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 (edited) @The Stud I completely agree. After having sat on Mando S3 now that it’s over, I feel the overall storytelling and cohesion of the season pales in comparison to the first two. Because of that, I can’t say I’m genuinely excited for the Lego sets, at least not the way I was for the Season 2 wave back in 2021 (which, despite not being perfect, was a pretty excellent selection of scenes from the show). The S3 sets for the most part feel like merchandise for the sake of merchandise, rather than meaningful portrayals of the scenes in the show. Doesn’t help that the vast majority of the 4 sets we’re getting are just more grey models. So hyped for the summer though, that’s where the real goodness will be. All that’s missing is a set based on Jedi: Survivor, but Lego never really got their timing right with tie-ins to the games anyway. Edited April 20, 2023 by Kaijumeister Quote

I believe Jedi: Survivor was originally rumored to be releasing last fall so that BD-1 was probably planned to be a tie-in with the new game at some point in development. Hence why we're getting nothing this year, BD-1 was most likely supposed to be the tie-in set. I'm right there with you though; now that we're getting a Ghost remake and a new Gunship this year, the Mantis is probably at the top of my set wishlist now. 20 minutes ago, Kaijumeister said: @The Stud I completely agree. The sets were all good models with interesting figures and the prices weren't too egregious, whereas the Season 3 sets all seem extremely overpriced and boring, and the figure selection is sorely lacking. The updated helmet print on Din Djarin and the new Bo-Katan figure are great, but all of the other figures are either reuses or just not super interesting. All of the sets (well, besides the microfighter I guess) all feel like they're missing something. That Snubfighter should absolutely have come with a third figure like Greef Carga, the Spider Droid is missing its pilot and the set feels so hollow with that being the only build, and the minifigure selection of the Interceptor vs. Fang Fighter is just so mid. And for some reason, Lego thought it was a good idea to retire the Armorer's Forge just months before the new season came out, which prominently featured all three characters in that set. Quote

Despite the minifigures being eh I only mean thematically, it’s the only set where the ship and the figs make sense, and the set isn’t “missing” anything obvious. The spider tank is missing the droid and the FF v T isn’t based on a scene that actually happened. The Interceptor is by far the best ship though, I’m not complaining. Quote

By the sounds of things, the Ahsoka sets at least seem like a big step up in terms of minifigures and potentially builds too compared to the Mando S3 sets, which I’m frankly glad about as I think the former will be a vastly better show than the latter. Hard to place Lego at fault sometimes when they’re designing a set for the first time with extremely limited information and concept art. Quote

Definitely, we can see that even Hasbro’s output for Mando S3 is fairly meagre with some R5 figures, the Black Series Mandalorian Fleet Commander, and the admittedly awesome looking Vintage Collection N1. There’s no denying Lucasfilm are incredibly selective about what they share with their licensees. Edited April 20, 2023 by Kaijumeister Quote

I could be wrong but all the ships looked like Gauntlet fighters. Not that I'll say no to the upcoming set, especially for the TIE Interceptor, but it'll be funny if the set is based on an idea that didn't make it into the show, especially with TLG taking so long for a reveal. Honestly, I felt like a lot of the fan speculation and predictions were a lot more interesting than what we ended up getting. As someone who loved Seasons 1 and 2, and those two Mando-centric episodes of TBOBF, this season felt like a significant drop in quality. That's not to say that I hated or even disliked this season, (Chapters 18, 21 and 23 were all stellar episodes and there was still a lot of good stuff throughout the rest of the season) but I'm just disappointed with how they squandered the opportunities of where they could go following the Season 2 finale. It feels like they even undid a lot of the cool things that the Season 2 finale accomplished. But unlike a lot of other Star Wars fans, I'm not going to sit around and ruminate on the stuff I didn't like. We just had Celebration and there's plenty of other content that looks exciting, so for this one thing that let me down, there's going to be plenty of other things that I'll enjoy. Heck, Jedi Survivor comes out next week and I'm so excited for Ahsoka in August. I don't feel like I have anything to add for my list of potential Season 3 sets. The Corair, an updated Gauntlet Fighter and a battle pack of those guys would be sufficient for Season 3. I still feel like the Mando sets we are getting for 2023 are super dull. Yeah I too was very disappointed with how season 3 turned out. The pacing was all over the place, the plot did not go at all like I expected or hoped. It fealt like 2 and a half seasons of buildup to a particular outcome that did not happen and pretty much every dangling plot line got wrapped up by the end in a rush and we were left with a return to the status quo. I'm really disappointed in Jon and Dave this time. I would love to know what happened behind the scenes because this was not even remotely up to the standard of season 2. As far as the LEGO sets go, they all fit but are still incredibly underwhelming except for the Spider Tank, that is the most interesting and exciting set for season 3 to me, plus it comes from my favorite episode of the season. It's definitely missing some key things but the minifig selection is fantastic and the build is really cool. I'm a sucker for Star Wars walkers and the Spider Tank feels like something the Separatists would have had. As far as set coverage goes, the only things that are missing imo are Gorian Shard's Corsair and a set based on the finale with certain spoiler characters. I'd still like more Mandalorian sets but based on prior seasons. I still cannot believe we don't have Cobb Vanth and his speeder made from Anakin's pod racer. How is that not a $20-$25 set right now?? Also, we badly need more tBoBF sets. I'm still dying for one based on the finale! Edited April 21, 2023 by ToaDraco Quote

This year really feels like Lego doesn't know how to cover shows (at least until Ahsoka), and after a season's over, any hope for sets is slim to none. But at least we have helmets and mechs! Quote

Well it's hardly LEGO's fault when they can only go by what Lucasfilm gives them which is usually early concept art and a few meager descriptions. Weirdly enough, I don't feel like there was much about this season that was very spoilery, certainly not very many big reveals or surprising cameos so it's strange to have sets that are so average. I think we'll definitely get a nice spoiler set based on the finale with a bunch of really nice looking figures but there really isn't much else that should hace been held back for spoilers. The Ahsoka sets definitely sound incredibly exciting and more than make up for it and there's still one left that we don't have any details on. As it is, it's going to be rough just trying to afford the Ahsoka sets and the Republic Gunship but I'll get them all eventually. Heck, I still need to get the AT-TE before it retires. Quote
