VERY strange way to give out giftcards there Lego, I really would have preferred something i couldn't make on bricklink for 1/10th the promo requirement though. Got it as a bonus to my AT-AT w/ double vip points so i can't complain too much but damn it's worthless lmao. I wasn't being sarcastic, I genuinely love it. As for 1/10th the promo requirement, of course it's that much cheaper to make on BL (aside from the exclusive part) than the threshold. They'd be losing money if they gave it out for like $50 of purchases. Lego's been getting cash-grabby in a lot of ways, but this isn't one of them. If the only thing that makes a promo "worth it" to you is a figure, I think you're just going to make yourself disappointed. Its third 501 battlepack 100% agree. Feels like lego's decided that the 501st packs sell well and therefore need 3 battle packs in 4 years. It's absurd. The specialist pack was different enough and came out long enough after the standard pack that I was fine with it, but this new one is just 8 months after the previous pack and is just stock 501st with different helmets... not worth it to me. 4 hours ago, Flawless Cowboy said: I’m quite tired of the 501st as well, the specialist pack is not army buildable and they are less desirable to me than a new legion would be. Do a slightly updated ROTJ Endor Han. Boom, easy better promo. Reuse head, reuse hair and make a han solo figure with the green trench coat he wore during Endor. It just seems so obvious. We've got pretty much everyone who was in ROTJ available this year aside from Lando, Endor Han and Nien Numb. Nien Numb and Lando could have also made great promos. And that's not even mentioning the 20th anniversary Clone Wars promos they could have made this year to just print free money. Step 1: put red markings on a phase 1 clone trooper, call it Captain Fordo, instantly sold out to 2003 clone wars nerds, it's SO EASY it's enfuriating that lego seems to work against itself at times. Alternative: Take episode 2 anakin, replace chest with the bare chest and arms, print blue tribal markings on it and his face, give him a gold hand. 2003 TCW Anakin. Figure would be highly desirable and would be worth like $1000 in 10 years to the 3 people who really really like TCW 2003. AND That's not even accounting for the 2008-2020 clone wars figures they could have made to easily print money. Clone OPatra Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Personally I'd never buy a standard colour scheme LAAT, but a dark red one with swanky clones has me seriously interested. If it's true, that is. The only way it could change is if the source saw super early prelims that were changed later. Promobricks got details of the Harry Potter sets wrong for instance, which were probably things in the prelims they saw. Though not as drastic as changing the whole colour scheme of a set. Quote

But no we got a grey blob which is (apparently) 99% bricklinkable and a coin nobody asked for. -Sorry, not exclusive. It's in the dioramas as well, the printed brick with the 40th logo. But it alone makes bricklink's "easy buy" feature decide the cheapest US option is $50+ shipping. (which is partially due to the fact that only 3 copies of the brick exist and go for like $3-4, but if anything that just shows even without the brick it's still a chunk of change- $44.7 if you leave the part of the wanted list, to be precise) Dude, 90% of star wars is light stone grey blobs. Some of the most highly requested sets of the past few years have been light stone grey blobs, shiny stone gray blobs, or light stone grey blobs with red accents. The middle promo being a non-lego item is something they did last year too. Neither hit for me and I'd agree a figure would be a better move than that, 100%. I don't mind getting either of these for free, the beskar ingot particularly was pretty nice, but I think most people would rather have a figure. And yeah, I totally agree with you that the coin should have been a figure. My guess is it's significantly cheaper than producing a figure (especially with new prints), since it's just a coin and a piece of- plastic? Fiberglass? Not sure. But I think most people in general- think about general consumers as well, not just us diehards on the forums- would rather have a 298 piece set of an iconic piece of SW than a figure for that highest threshold. Fordo would have been nice and done well, yeah, especially instead of the coin. Blue markings anakin, though...I can't see that being wanted by more than like 2 people. 6 minutes ago, ForgedInLego said: I love my grey blob! I think this is what people are missing here. It's not like boxart, where you just make a couple edits to the art and then have the printer or whatever use a different pattern. At the very least, it requires changing the color for a LOT of parts from the set, but more importantly, it's likely going to change the actual design of the set, since it's not like the markings are the same on each gunship. They'd need to change the design at least slightly. Quote

Ok, I'm one of them, who's the other one? :D Anyway to chime in the promo-debate I too would prefer they go back to minifigs promos (or small builds such as the Lars kitchen), but on the other hand I'm wary about it because it would mean the -already unreliable, as we've all seen- S@H site would be even more overwhelmed and I don't trust their stock estimates to be enough to meet the demand, leaving lots of people without the desired promo. I agree with your point in essence, but I think the dichotomy you've presented is a bit harsh. I reckon heaps, if not most, of the people who would call what they do "army building" to some extent, myself included, just buy one or two extra Snowtrooper BPs, for example, for the purpose of having a better number to represent what they can see in conflict scenes in Star Wars. I don't care all too much for having the right number of each rank or whatever; in terms of the 501st, I'm perfectly satisfied with my troopers from 1x 75280, 2x 75345, and 2x 501st clone magazine foil pack to balance out the regs/rankeds a bit. I'm also very much looking forward to buying just one of this new 332nd set, as with the single one I already have from the AAT (which currently sits w/ my other 501st troops), 4 troopers plus Vaughn will be more than enough for doing some Siege of Mandalore stuff. An orange pauldron sand trooper is a lieutenant while a white pauldron trooper is a sergeant and a black pauldron trooper is a regular enlisted trooper. These have never been labeled in Lego form, and when these troopers appear on screen during a New Hope, they appear in relatively equal amounts, which doesn’t make any sense if you’re viewing it from the standpoint of army organization.
