I really want to like the Yavin set but the result is just lacking. It's a good idea to use Vader's castle as a template (outside of a full MBS treatment, which is probably never going to happen unless they start releasing MBS sets every year) but Vader's castle was more compact. I think my biggest issue with this set - apart from the price - is that it's too sprawling. I didn't realise that the 2nd level of the main temple section is just a play feature for two stud shooters. IMO they should have put the briefing/control rooms in that section - probably would have had to make it taller to enable human fingers to place the minifigs - and used the remaining pieces from the side sections to build up the side walls of the temple. The Y-Wing is fine for what it is (similar to the TIE Advanced in the castle) and has been mentioned earlier a similarly sized X-Wing would look good in that setting.

Compared to Vader's castle, Yavin has a similar piece count (looks to be a decent amount of large plates and other pieces), 7 more minfigs and 4 years later costs about 30% more (not looking forward to whatever the Australian price ends up being). I wasn't following new releases back when the Castle was announced, what was the reaction then to the price compared to what we're seeing now?

End of the day though it is a kids play set (hence the tree being the way it is with the feature of raising and lowering the lookout post - finally we know how troops access that point!) which is fine and it's really a set that's aimed squarely at that age range. JB Spielwaren made a good point in their video though that it isn't a location that saw any movie action and there's no figs included to fight against. As a big OT fan I will almost certainly buy it, especially as I don't see them doing a Yavin set again for a long time, if ever, but it stings to be already thinking about mods to be improving the set with the price being what it is. The biggest omission I feel is no Kyle Katarn and no Grandmaster Luke. That's what I'll do - mod the side sections to be Jedi training grounds

We need more location sets in the Star Wars range. I’m going to wait for it to go on sale anyway now because the El-Dorado fortress has come out of nowhere and is suddenly top of my wish list.

in its defence when is there ever 12 figures in a single set the build does look basic but how much would the smaller Y-wing be on its own (30-40 pound minimum going by the new yoda Jedi star fighter). It ain’t bad I think the price is just too high but for me in the U.K. it’ll be on sale on Amazon or Argos come November time and that’s when I’ll get it.

Also has the retail exclusive set been confirmed yet or is that a surprise set we haven’t heard about yet?

To be fair, the IJ set has 4 figures, this has what, 12? And it's meant for kids, not collectors, though that's no excuse for putting out a sub-par design.

I'm still estatic that we're getting it at all, but I am sort of realizing that this probably delays any potential Yavin MBS by a few years at least. (Though that said, we are getting a system gunship only 2 years after the UCS one)

Red painted courscant guard Yavin temple !?

Though we could get an alternative one, I legends it was a sith temple pre being a rebel base ( and a jedi temple afterwards) so maybe if cannon follows suit we'll  get a sith Yavin temple set for dawn of the jedi or something ( or a Rey's jedi temple for dawn of the jedi?)

Well, early review of Yavin now available on ytb... and I believe it will be an easy pass for many. Very average build (and I think I am being kind saying this) if it were half the price. For what TLG want for it, no way, even accounting for minifigs. That's coming from someone who likes location playsets the best... Hopefully it floats others' boat...

Only thing I like about that set is the mini Y-wing...easy pass from me

I mean maybe the level of detail in monkey kid and Ninjago temples is a better of example as those are definitely aimed at kids and have beautifully attentive detail.

I was going to say exactly this, a set being for kids doesn’t mean it should feel so half-baked. This is one of the summer flagship sets after all, it should have some heft and a wow-factor - the Star Wars brand name should not be enough to carry a product.

But conversely, how much can really done with this particular source material? Sure, a well-built Temple complex would’ve been awesome to see (and given the price-point, this should have been the case to begin with), but ultimately it’s only a base of operations with a non-existent conflict scenario.

The sheer number of minifigures is clearly where a lot of this set’s value is derived from, and on that front it mostly succeeds.

Anyway, checked out of the August wave to begin with. September is where the cool stuff’s at! I’m crossing every appendage that more effort has been put into the Gunship and Ahsoka sets from both a minifigure and build perspective.

Parts of the Morgan minifig have leaked in the usual place (i.e., everything except for the legs or skirt).

This really seems to be THE year for new SW hairpieces. ROTJ Luke, the two younglings, Bo-katan, and now Morgan

Wow, it looks great! And tell me about it, the minifigure part budget this year is pretty crazy.

Ahsoka is a character that really needs it though, but I’ll live. A smaller montrail mould would just work so much better, similar to the Clone Wars version.

Also curious if Sabine will get a cool hairpiece. I can see Baylan using the same mould that’s usually used for Hawkeye / short haired Thor etc. in white, whilst Shin would look quite good with the Hermione Granger hair mould from Philosopher’s Stone / Chamber of Secrets.

I'm not positive that figure is real--something about the hair looks kind of off in the way it's attached to the body, but maybe that's just the new mold.

That‘s because it‘s a composite picture. The rendered images must‘ve leaked separately, and somebody quickly edited them together

Brilliant observation

Yeah it's definitely 3 seperate images shopped together, and it's yet another Lego internal render ( like in PaB online and Lego set inventories) which have been common this year.

She looks pretty good, I almost expected reused hair and head but it's awesome to see they didn't give her the superheroes treatment. These Ahsoka sets are shaping up to be a treat.

Boba Fett mech face print leaked in the usual spot. Looks pretty sick if you ask me.

Don't get why Vader gets a cape but none for Boba, other than that still a great figure.

Personally, still bigger fan of the 2015 one but will add this to the collection nevertheless.

So the latest issue of the Lego Star Wars magazine with the Scout Trooper costs 5,99€. That's 1€ more than before. There is a new sticker album included, so maybe that's why they raised the price? Do other countries also have this increased price for the magazines? Next month we'll see if the price came to stay...

Love the new Biba face print and 5h3 Morgan figure is shaping up to be great. I can definitely see that hair piece being used for Padme. I would not be surprised if the Padme that comes in the Couriscant Republic Gunship uses that piece too.

Im thinking about getting stormtrooper mech but I fell its a litte goofy to spend 16 $ for 1 stormtrooper .He should be on sale for 12 $ but still 12$ is many

so I guess its 8 days to reveal gunship and chewbacca?

That would be nice but I don't think past reveals mean that July 1st we will see these ones. I hope so though! I want to see the gunship because I might buy it and I want to see Chewie for my own curiosity (do not plan on buying and I doubt a reveal will change that).

The remaining non D2C sets are September release, right? That should mean we see them in late July, if I remember correctly—I believe that’s when they usually leak.

Yes, we get the Ahsoka sets as well as the Gunship in September. We already have minifig leaks from a few (Hera, Fox, Morgan Elsbeth) but full on set pics should be mid-late July. Anything sooner is a gift tho!

Have been watching a lot of early CW recently and I gotta say I'm stoked for this UCS Venator. Might have to go ahead and make it my biggest Lego purchase to date. I think a modernized and live action style P1 Rex would've been a way cooler option, but i get that people are aching for a new P2 one.
