BrickBob Studpants Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 There’s also a close-up of Palpy’s new faceprints. The smiling one is more cursed than the buildable Yoda and Chewie squared. No, cubed. Quote
Displayedaction Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Rex looks good I like the arm printing wish his armor had some weathering though like Cody his armor looks a tad too clean. No cloth kama is unfortunate, the figure besides the front is going to look off without the Kama, thats a major part of his look Quote

The expression mimics his face when he’s saying ‘Learn the power to save your wife from certain death’ to Anakin. Love it. I’d argue the most cursed non-CW figure of Palpatine was the 2014 one that came with the Tri-Fighter. 2014 was a really weird year for LSW minifigures in general though, the face prints were overly detailed to the point of looking visceral. Rex looks fantastic and I’m glad his arm printing goes all the way up, but like the rest of you I hate the lack of a cloth kama. It reeks of laziness to just print the thing on. Doesn’t ruin the figure for me, but it’s disappointing nonetheless. As arguably the most popular clone character of them all, I hope he doesn’t stay locked behind a gigantic UCS set for 2 years before making it to a standard set. I’m betting we’ll be seeing Rex’s Y-Wing as a set in the near future. Quote

I swear I remember one of the promobricks YT channels saying that we should expect Rex to be in a cheaper set within 12 months of the venator. I can't find the comment because its an old video and i don't have the patience to scroll through it all lol. Sooooo you might get your wish if you wait longer Quote

Yularen really just looks like another dude in a uniform. Rex, we knew what was coming for a while now. I'd say it's at least a 6/10. Would add a custom waist cape to hide that nonsense printed on. Now that the figs are out of the way, I must say I am still way more excited for the ship itself. Quote

Rex looks good to me, though a little too clean. Kama is a huge miss though. I really do not like the printing half-baked kama. Please let us have the fabric and just let the user decide how to handle it. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I'm conflicted about the new Rex, but I feel the negatives outweigh the positives. The main positive is the printing on the helmet. It looks much better proportioned than the old one, and I like the greyed in cheeks style. The main negative is of course the farcical strips of printing to pass as representing a cloth skirt, but the helmet holes haven't totally grown on me and look doubly silly when used with a range finder, and like the old version the pauldron is a bad match because Rex's pauldron sticks out to a point and doesn't droop over his shoulder. Quote
Graupensuppe Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I'm disappointed (but not surprised) that Rex' visor doesn't match the one of the 2021-2022 phase 1 helmets. Quote
Balrogofmorgoth Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I love the Rex figure, my one nitpick is that I think the pauldron is way too big and covers his entire arm (so we can’t see the glorious arm printing!) and I remember thinking the pauldron on the previous P2 Rex was also too big. A new cloth piece would have been ideal, but like I said it’s really just a nitpick. I think the figure is really solid! Quote

This is your complaint? That the visor isn't an exact match for figures he isn't chronologically seen alongside? To be honest, looking at the leaked images and not the custom fig someone keeps posting next to it, the visor doesn't even seem different from the p1 clones to me. 1 hour ago, Clone OPatra said: I'm conflicted about the new Rex, but I feel the negatives outweigh the positives. I don't have an issue with the helmet holes- better to finally have a P2 rex that can have a rangefinder- but aside from the kama issue I've already talked about, I do agree about the pauldron. they needed a different shape for the cloth. So, yeah, I'm complaining because there's no good reason for it not to be consistent with the other current phase 1 minifigures. Quote
Balrogofmorgoth Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I honestly think most people are too hard on the lego clones. It’s like people complain about them first chance they get. Just my opinion, but I’m very happy we’ve been getting all these clones even if they’re not perfect. And I think they’ve all been pretty good actually Quote

Don’t get me wrong, criticism is ok, but it’s still funny to me how LSW fans are virtually impossible to please Quote

Agent Kallus Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I like the Rex ( yes dual moulded legs would be the perfect solution to the kama situation, but I would I have left off a fabric kama if included anyway, though they should give you the option), but I won't be getting the Venator anyways, hopefully promobricks are right in thier speculation that rex will show up elsewhere soon. I've also done my fair share of complaining, I admit that, but mostly when it comes to a lack of new-ness The Yavin set for instance has grown on me once it became clear that we'd get Red Leader and the CMF medal piece with new printing. The Yoda set on the other hand is one of the most worthless SW sets ever. The last minifig-scale Landspeeder for instance at least included a new poncho for Luke, this set however has NOTHING to offer Quote

Don’t get me wrong, criticism is ok, but it’s still funny to me how LSW fans are virtually impossible to please While I'm totally cool that people are happy or satisfied with LEGO's current clone design, this line of argument is still disingenuous. It's like saying: No new Star Wars movie: people complain. New Star Wars movie is Rise of Skywalker: people complain. It's ok for people to want something and then not be happy with the way in which that thing they wanted is presented/designed/delivered. I bought the 501st specialist pack to see for myself, and in my honest opinion the new helmets are a bit wonky, and the placement of the rangefinder feels most wrong. The little strip of kama doesn't look like a kama at all, and LEGO could do much much better. For random specialists I don't really care, though they treated the random one-off ARC better in the past, but for Rex it's more problematic. Again, my opinion from direct experience. Quote

Exactly, nitpicks are fine, saying what we like and what we dislike is fine, but lately it seems if every expectation isn’t met it’s “trash”. A specific Instagram video comes to mind (don’t remember who it was) where someone took a new Commander Fox figure (don’t know how they have it) and tossed it in the trash can saying that’s where it belongs. Attitudes like that are just delusional. Plus the guy kept it in a plastic bag so it didn’t get messed up and I’m sure he took it out immediately after he was done being dramatic Quote

While I agree that the complaints about the clones are generally extremely overdone, the Kama one is a real issue IMO. It really doesn't look good, and it's not like they don't do cloth waist capes anymore. Quote
