I couldn't care less about Rex. I'll take the ship, thank you. There's a new rumor the Venator is 40 inches long, about 3 inches shorter than the Devastator set. So, this thing will be in a box for ten years while I try to figure out where to display it, I guess.

With the amount of Mandalorian and Clone minifigures TLG has been pumping out you would think they could sort out Pauldrons and Kamas in a consistent and quality way. I think the kama aspect has been talked to death on here i Agrre with most sentiments but i wouldn't add mush to the convo.

When it come to pauldrons I can think of at least three plausible options (Print, hard piece like praetorians, epaulettes or the piece used in Prince of Persia, or dual molding). I feel most of star wars characters with the pauldron armor have a samey shape to it, so why not create the piece if its reuse potential is relatively high. I think such a piece has been sorely lacking to make many of these figs pop with some color or beef them up a bit.  Cody, Fox, Mando, Bo, and Space Titus Pullo could all have used the same piece and Rex could have used something akin to the armor of old which fits Bly and ARC troopers as well. I only think the cloth pauldron works for the sandtroopers / death troopers.

To be fair, ever since TLG started properly going in on clones again, they have been pretty consistent stylistically, helmet accessories notwithstanding. The last cloth kama we got was the airborne trooper in 2020 IIRC, and they've all been printed since then. I think Rex will be the first in a while with a properly defined pauldron.

That said, a cloth kama would have been much better here, and I agree that a smaller, solid pauldron would probably be better too.

I do think people hold clones to a higher standard than other figures (not just in Lego).

I also a lot of the time have to remind myself that Lego is primarily aimed at younger kids. I myself hated cloth pieces and capes on figures when I was younger maybe Legos focus groups and all that have fed that back to them. I think if we want 100% accuracy for Star Wars figures then you need to go to another company for that. I myself have always been a Lego fan first, and I’m happy that they have a Star Wars license.

the only figures I’ve ever looked at and thought that they were hideous where all clone wars head pieces.

lego has come along way in recent years. We used to have angry clone head for literally every trooper (clone, stormtrooper etc) now we have special heads for the clones and other troopers have random heads (which makes sense)

YES!!!

I've made some vaguely ETA-2 shaped ships that can fit a minifig that are only 10 studs wide, this is just about the minimum size where they might be able to fit through the hangar doors (dorsal, port and starboard) with some modification of course. Luckily I have room in my apartment where the UCS Gunship isn't taking up too much space, so I'll be able to display it no problem. Yeah the kama could be better on Rex, but still 100% going to camp out on release day for this one :)

Impressive. Most impressive. This does put a smile on my face.

I, too, will need to find a place to display it. But I am just making that issue worse with the countless sets I have NIB at this point. Just keep buying retail for things I like while looking for a house.

Yeah, I currently have no idea how to display this thing, especially since it’s a TCW set  I keep the sets based on the animated shows in different display cabinets than the other SW sets, so the purist in me can’t really put it where I have my other UCS sets (also, there’s no space left there for this monster anyway).

Maybe it can fit on top of those display cabinets, but the set’s probably too tall for that, even though it should be a bit more flat than the Star Destroyer. I need the exact dimensions before I can make any proper plans :shrug_oh_well:

I despised them as a kid too. Honestly it might be a hot take but even as someone who mainly buys clones and CW era stuff. I don't mind the lack of cloth stuff. Now as an adult I do like the cloth stuff but as an adult I can recognise 3 things:

1. Lego is for children who think differently from us.
2. Third party sellers who make much higher quality cloth pieces exist.
3. Paying like $100 one time to get all the capes, kamas, pauldrons and accessories I could ever realistically need in any style I want is not that big of an issue for a hobby that already costs a metric crap tonne to be a part of.

and it's not like it even breaks my mostly purist sensibilities, the fabric pieces aren't lego pieces to begin with it's just some cotton.

All that said, if ever there was a figure to make an exception to lego's new policy on clone waist capes, it would be the one in a $650 set. Buuuuuuuuuuut it'll cost me a dollar to fix that so i don't really care.

Yeah I think with more clear pics of Rex it's actually a strong figure. Cant fix the helmet holes, but luckily the waist can be fixed.

Arm prints are great, helmet print is decently good, but wish they maybe tried something new for the shoulder pauldron. Again, another fixable thing though.

I was also kinda hoping he would be a bit dinged up like Cody was - he looks too clean.

Can't wait to see what the ship itself looks like.

So, to display the Devastator on my LEGO room shelving was almost impossible.

The room itself is a small, 12 ft. x 4 ft. room, so it's tight to begin with. I had to put up two metal shelving tracks, fastening them to studs in the wall. I then placed a 12 in. deep wooden shelf on top of two brackets, then fastened an A-frame bracket onto the top surface of the shelf (the bracket is upside down). The A frame was also fastened to another stud in between the two metal shelving tracks, so the adjustable brackets underneath and the A frame bracket above are essentially keeping each other in check.

After all of that, I had to extend the wooden shelving out an additional 3 inches, since placing the Devastator against a wall on a shelf requires at least 14 inches of space between the wall and the outer portion of the set. This extension required mending plates on top and bottom to connect the extension to the 12 in. shelf and enable it support the weight of the Devastator.

Anyway, after about 2 days of finagling, I finally got it done. It is one of my proudest LEGO achievements, and I have no desire to do it again for awhile, sorry Venator lol. I'll upload a picture later when I get a chance.

I have this same problem - my LEGO room ran out of display space months ago and the unopened sets are in the dozens now. Odds are the Venator will have the same size box as the Walker, Falcon, etc. and will not even be simple to display un-opened.

This seems to be common theme around here.  I have a ton of unopened sets as well and am slowly running out of space for them.  The Titanic took up the space below the TV and the AT-AT is still looking for a home. There are only so many things that you can display on each IKEA Billy shelf unit.

Display might be a problem for me too... Does anyone know if the Star Destroyer was strong enough to be wall-mounted?

I wouldn’t dare doing that to be honest :oh3: It’s not flimsy, but also not exactly the most stable of builds. Maybe someone has found a way to safely do so, but all I can think of when I hear “wall-mounted Star Destroyer” is a dramatic reenactment of the Executor’s final moments :laugh_hard:

I've seen it done. How I don't know. But I wouldn't do it.

It takes serious modification. The raised area below the bridge isn't actually connected to the rest of the build, it just sits there via gravity, so you have to tie that in (probably literally tie it with strings or something, it's not trivial to do it with LEGO elements), and do more work to strengthen the stand, affix the hull plates, etc. I have seen done, but it's not something you just throw up on a whim.

At least the Venator should not be as wide, right? Right?!

Would love to see how you did this, it just sounds so interesting and impressive!

UCS Venator (projected): 40" long, 19.3" wide, 9.4" tall (not including stand, add 3-4")

Brickvault Venator: 43.3" long, 20.5" wide, 14.6" tall (with stand)

UCS Star Destroyer: 43" long, 26" wide, 14" tall (17" with stand)

Used Wookiepedia for estimated proportions so people can get a head start on finding room for this monster :)

Sounds like a later me problem but I greatly appreciate the insight!

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but with Yavin 4 still not on the Australian Lego site even though it releases in, what, two days time, other sites show a retail price of $260 aud and at least one site listing it for $220.

How is it still not there?? Anyhow, I just ordered it for $220, but it said it was discounted from $260, so I think we can be fairly certain the reg. price is $260. Also, it's good to see some of the sets discounted so quickly considering how much they all cost together this time around.

Love how we’re all planning to blow some crazy money on the Venator without actually knowing how we’ll display it! Can’t wait to see how it looks and I’m hopeful that we’ll see some manner of small interior compared to the Devastator (ventral hangar aside).

Looks like it’ll have some micro-scale Gunships according to Brick Clicker which sounds great. Would’ve loved having some little Jedi Starfighters and Vulture Droids to swoosh around the main set, but they’d need to be so tiny in comparison.

I’ve had missing pieces before, but this is ridiculous :laugh_hard: I’m currently building the Yavin set, and one of the 1x2 swivel hinge bricks is missing. Quite a large part that should be noticable by weight, right? The kicker: in place of the hinge, I got a lime green 1x2 inverted bracket. Which the set isn’t even supposed to include :roflmao:

I'm surprised I was lucky enough to not have any missing pieces in the sets I bought so far. Is this a common occurrence or is it pretty rare to come across?

I've had a rubber band instead of a cape before (75256), but those come in the same cardboard box thing. Other than that Lego has been pretty good, I have had several missing parts in a Mega set, but their customer service (in my experience) is better than Lego's
