Yeah I really hope Lego comes swinging with a new MBS for the big fall set, whether or not the rumored Sail Barge will be classified accordingly we'll just have to see.

We have been getting some major leaks so we could lowkey learn this soon.

TBF though assuming the Sail Barge truly is 5,000+ pieces it’ll almost certainly come with a Skiff and Sarclac Pit and probably like 15-25 minifigures so it’ll end being an MBS Playset of sorts.

It could be, but every leak has called it a “UCS” set. It’s more of a ship than a “place” though, and as far as a playable scene goes, more memorable ones took place on the skiff than the barge itself, whereas the Cantina had a ton of callbacks to scenes from ANH. Just looking at the pedigree of MBS sets like Betrayal at Cloud city, there’s tons of little movie moments recreated in the set, I don’t see the Barge offering the same volume.

Wow. Tie Interceptor. This is great! Saves me from getting the Mando set (really want that ship). Maybe I still will get it on discount. Love the Interceptor if true, definitely in need of a re-make and excited to see the detail and size. Especially since it will not need to have functions, I think they can really get the shape down perfectly.

The TIE Interceptor is another boring OT UCS set, but that’s to be expected for the May 4th UCS set at this point.

I am very excited about the Droideka and Podrace sets though, since it means Lego is finally willing to branch out beyond the OT a bit for display sets.

Same! There’s just something about the shape that’s really cool to me. The similarly-shaped TIE Silencer and TIE Whisper are among my favourites too. Too bad the latter was never released as a set :sadnew:

Also, I’m not sure what people were expecting out of a 1HY UCS set. Those are always on the cheaper side (so no MBS) and them being mostly OT-based shouldn’t come as a surprise anymore :snicker:

Sure, next year marks the 25th anniversary of TPM, but do you see a 40th anniversary ROTJ UCS set on shelves? By this point it should be clear that movie anniversaries are a non-factor, except for smaller tie-in sets like dioramas.

The Razor Crest is a UCS Set, and still recreated all of the things you possibly could at minifig scale, as is the AT-AT. There’s definitely as much of not more details you could fit on the Barge vs. the Cantina, especially if they include the skiffs and the Sarlacc.

I’d personally be devastated if they made a barebones UCS Khetanna with barely any figs, because it is just the perfect model for a UCS/MBS set at minifig-scale with lots of minifigs and play features in the set.

Yeah — TIE Interceptor, Silencer, Whisper are some of my favourite Star Wars ships, with TIE Baron at the first place. It looks incredible in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Can understand why they are remaking the UCS Interceptor but would have preferred a remake of Vader's X1. Have already got a custom one based on the 75095 TIE so will likely pass on this one.

What I like about the gunship:

  • The red color scheme looks better than I thought
  • The minifigs look (for the most part) pretty cool
  • Almost no stickers
  • Missile tubes are 'buried' in the wings, like they should

What I dislike about the gunship:

  • Fuselage flares out to 6 studs at the cockpit and thins to 4 after when it should slightly taper the other way
  • One piece doors
  • The engine grille at the rear
  • Missile launcher taper is too sudden (forgivable, given available parts)
  • Fuselage angle becomes too steep after the cockpit

Honestly I don't know why I'm complaining, I'm already halfway through designing a MOC Gunship...

The Gunship definitely isn’t what I expected as a follow up to a beloved set 10 years in the making, too many shortcuts.

But for what it is? I actually really like it, and all the mini figures look splendid IMO. Only contention is a set of this size (and type) needing more minifigures, pilots especially.

The UCS TIE Interceptor is a solid choice, but continues the trend of boring May UCS sets for me that began with the Landspeeder. I can’t imagine this won’t sell like hotcakes though.

As always, I can’t wait to hear about what next summer holds, that’s where the really good stuff will be.

It’s not about the details, it’s about what scenes are captured in the set. Sure, the AT-AT has a full interior, but we never see anything beyond the cockpit in the film. MBS sets capture big movie set pieces, and the barge doesn’t offer nearly as many as the cantina, or cloud city, or Ewok village, etc.

The entire bartering scene, Luke doing the backflip to reveal his green saber, the entire struggle with the Sarlaac, Boba Fett flying in from the deck to join the fight, Luke getting on the deck fighting all the pirates, Leia strangling Jabba, and ultimately Luke blowing the whole thing up with the cannon. The more I think about it, it's actually a perfect MBS set.

The bartering scene takes place at the palace, not the barge. Boba and Luke duke it out on the skiff, not on the barge. It sounds like the skiff and the sarlaac would have to carry this set as an MBS, which is strange considering the barge would be 90%+ of the set. It’s still a paltry number of scenes compared to what could be accomplished with an Ewok Village/Moon base, which is shame considering it’s from the same film.

What I meant by bartering was the "free us or die" scene - barge and skiff.

I didn't say but if this set were to be MBS, it would have the skiff and sarlaac otherwise it would just be UCS if it was a standalone barge. Right?

I'm not denying the other scenes from the movie, but we know with some certainty a UCS/MBS sized Sail Barge is coming.

Perhaps it's called MBS Dune Sea or something and it tips off the large scale barge leak, like how the supposed "swamp speeder" just ended up being labeled a battle pack.

I feel that MBS is just basically it’s a building and UCS is saying it’s a vehicle.

Lets not forget though the UCS AT-AT didn’t have any screen time of the interior (other than the cockpit) and we literally got an exact replica of the interior from what is shown in the books etc.  If the Sail Barge is to release then I’d want them to do an interior like the AT-AT with the cells, kitchen, cockpit, guest rooms etc.

Imo we need a new MBS location now though, something iconic like Theed Palace, Jedi Temple or even Hoth Echo Base.

MBS Geonosis Arena would be the most epic set ever.

My anticipation was high for the Gunship when rumoured details came out, but I'm not loving it. There's something about it that makes it not as impressive looking as either of the last two.

Like many people I'm at least half in it for the Minifigures when it comes to Star Wars, and while these look decent in rendered images, we know Fox presents various let downs. He shouldn't have white beneath the breastplate section of his armour, the white isn't going to be near opaque enough, and the kama is lousy (though that's the most fixable for anyone with spare kamas). The figure just doesn't knock it out of the park quality-wise, and the Ahsoka sets - especially the T6 - have ultimately stolen my interest away from this one.

This may be an unpopular opinion from what I'm seeing but I'm not super excited about what we've heard so far about the 2024 Lego Star Wars lineup. (Also, good lord are we learning things early.) To put it shortly, there's just too many non-playsets for my liking but to put it not so-shortly, here's some of my scatterbrained thoughts:

  • I was no fan of the helmets line but I'm shocked and somewhat bummed that it's not continuing next year. They seemed to be good sellers and there was plenty of potential for more.
  • The 4+ Crimson Firehawk is cool for Young Jedi Adventures fans as it'll likely include the missing characters from this year's 4+ set. Like that set though, this one just won't be for me.
  • The R2-D2 is yet another "why?" set, which Lego seems to be throwing a lot of out lately. (Looking at you Chewie.) I guess it's cool for younger builders and some accounts have mentioned it possibly also having a buildable C-3PO which could help make it stand out from the practically perfect UCS set that's still out. An easy skip regardless.
  • The 18+ droideka is neat. Probably not a set I'd be into but maybe the build will blow me away. Cool to see regardless.
  • Glad to see fans of midi-scale getting more sets from that line, but again, it's just not for me.
  • I am into collecting the Star Wars dioramas so while I'll probably get these new ones, I'm not particularly hyped about either of them. I like that we're starting to get stuff from the prequels here, though I'm not super thrilled about a microscale podrace. As for the other one, it'll probably make for a nice display piece and it will be nice to get some more Rebel Fleet Troopers in the Tantive IV Boarding set. I'm just hoping we'll get another more exciting diorama as a retail exclusive?
  • I'm pretty surprised that we're getting a UCS TIE Interceptor before a standard TIE or an Advanced to go with last year's X-Wing. I like the TIE Interceptor design a lot but a UCS version doesn't interest me personally.

As for the playsets we are getting? I'm really liking what we're getting.

  • Getting the Skeleton Crew ship as a large playset in 1HY 2024 is something I've been calling for a while. Those murmurings of the Max Rebo head mold returning are probably related to this set as I believe one of the main characters are of the same species. The set will probably come with Jude Law and the four children characters. I'm trying to collect all of the "Mando-verse" related sets so this one will be a buy for me.
  • Grogu's Escape should be a fun little set. I'm expecting just the pram and BARC Speeder with Sidecar as builds, with Grogu, Kelleran Beq and 1-2 Shock Troopers included, which will hopefully bring the value of those latter figures down. This isn't necessarily the "spoilery" Mando S3 set I was hoping for, but cool nonetheless.
  • The Clone Trooper vs. Battle Droid Pack is very exciting to me. Getting new Super Battle Droids (I would guess that these ones are most likely going to be less prone to breaking) and an easy way to get a bunch of standard battle droids at once is great. I just hope this set includes P2 shinies, whether it be 2-4. I saw someone throw out the idea of this set paying homage to the original Clone battle pack with two shinies, a 327th and a Coruscant Guard trooper and I'd 100% be down for that. Like the 2020 501st set, I'll likely be getting several copies of this set during its lifespan.

I guess my wallet should be happy that there isn't much here that excites me (and there really isn't much grabbing me from any of the 2024 rumors for other themes either) but man, it kinda sucks to see so few playsets in the first half of the year unless there are some set numbers missing here like others have mentioned. I personally think this is it until next summer unless they are spreading stuff out more next year versus just having a lot coming out in 2HY like usual.

It will be interesting to see what the summer wave looks like next year. For new shows, assuming they don't get pushed around too much due to the current Hollywood strikes, we should be getting The Acolyte, The Bad Batch season 3 and Andor season 2. Lego completely skipped Bad Batch season 2 so I wouldn't be surprised to see them focus more on the other shows, which the former should give us some really cool High Republic-era minifigures at the very least and we could very well be getting the highly desired Fondor haulcraft model to tie-in with the latter. There's also the video game Star Wars: Outlaws due to release in 2024 but Lego will probably skip it like they did with Jedi: Survivor this year. Beyond that, I foresee some more spoilery Mando S3 and Ahsoka sets sprinkled throughout next year's lineup.

Absolutely. It's been over 20 years since the first release, and it's about time. I mean, an un-opened copy of the original goes for $1,000 at minimum right now. There's clearly an interest. Barring an absolute choke job on design, this will be a definite buy for me. Also, getting it out of the way (let's be real - we all knew an updated UCS Tie Interceptor was going to happen) clears one more from the backlog of future UCS sets and makes room for some prequel UCS sets. They'll happen - just be patient.

The CMF series scheduled for next May is codenamed “Space”. Are you guys thinking what I’m thinking? :laugh_hard: Ok, wishful thinking, but still.

I think it'd be too obvious.

LEGO usually uses totally random codenames.

My first thoughts as well... But then I started wondering what else it could be? Last May they did Disney, I feel like HP is a bit overdone now as CMF? Marcel gets one this year already... Or could it really be Star Wars?

Only alternative is an one-off like the muppets? Those tend to be released around May-april.

I feel liek this hs been discussed a bunch of times, but I don't think Star Wars needs a CMF series.

We know that half the minifigures would be the most popular characters like Vader, Luke, or Kenobi, and there aren't any interesting variants or accessories left for those.

It would give us a few interesting characters or variants, sure, but mostly people would complain about the series not being unique enough.

It’s got the potential to be Futurama as a one of CMF series, or maybe that’s just my wishful thinking.

For me I have little to no interest in the Tie Interceptor.  There are so many ships that have never been produced at any level let alone UCS level that deserve to be made first of all.

The one thing I’d like to see is a Vader with a new 3 piece helmet that can be taken off just like it’s taken off in the movies.
