Thinking about moulds for a potential Sail Barge, the only ones that are really needed would be new heads for J’Quille and Saelt-Marae, so certainly not too much for a large UCS set.

They’d also need to bring back a few moulds that have been out of production for close to a decade: Bib Fortuna’s Lekku, Leia’s hair, Lando’s helmet, Jabba, Max Rebo’s head, Ree-Yees’ head, and Salacious Crumb.

Bib Fortuna's ROTJ lekku is starting to look a bit outdated. I wouldn't mind that piece getting a completely all new redesign although it also wouldn't surprise me if he ends up reusing the BOBF headpiece to save costs despite its inaccuracies.

Saelt-Marae/Yak-Face is an absolute must if the Sail Barge comes into fruition. Also hoping they throw Tessek in there as well since they currently have the Quarren mold in production.

That Sailbarge set is definitely one of the few among the survey leaks that could still reasonably be released this year. It would fit in perfectly with the 40th anniversary of ROTJ and the alleged Max Rebo leak

Then again, it looks decisively less polished than a lot of the other sets and as has been pointed out before, TLG is notoriously nonchalant about celebrating anniversaries :shrug_oh_well:

Exciting times either way!

I hope they make atleast 3-4 new molded characters, like in the case of the cantina

I mean there just aren’t that many new species that haven’t been made in Lego on the barge. There’s J’Quille and Saelt-Marae, and the only other ones you could possibly have is the unnamed Ishi Tib, and maybe Mosep Binneed or Geezum, although they could probably be made with normal minifig heads like Kabe was. And I guess you could do one for Tanus Spijek, who was apparently there according to reference photos, but I’m not sure if you can even see him on the barge in the movie. But those other characters are so obscure I doubt they’d be included in the set at all.

Since we already have moulds for Bib Fortuna (Twi’lek), Jabba (Hutt), Salacious Crumb (Kowakian Monkey Lizard), Tessek (Quarren), Ree-Yees (Gran), Max Rebo (Ortolan), Chewbacca (Wookiee), Bossk (Trandoshan), Yoxgit (Ugnaught), and Gamorreans. And all of the Humans, Nikto, Weequays, Klatoonians, Jawas, and the single Skrilling can all use normal minifig heads.

Although they could always update old moulds if they wanted to.

Yeah, I really hope they don’t reuse the BOBF one.

The most minifigs we’ve got in a Star Wars set is 25 for the Death Star (27 if you count the mouse droid and the torture droid)

So my ideal/expected minifig lineup would be:

1. Jabba

2. Leia

3. Luke

4. Han

5. Chewbacca

6. C-3PO

7. R2-D2

8. Lando

9. Boba Fett

10. Bib Fortuna

11. Max Rebo

12. Salacious Crumb

13. Bossk

14. Ree-Yees

15. Tessek

16. Kithaba (Klatooinian)

17. Barada (Klatooinian)

18. Pagetti Rook (Weequay)

19. Rintel Aren (Weequay)

20. Pote Snitkin (Skrilling)

21. Vizam (Brown Nikto)

22. Klaatu (Green Nikto)

23. J’Quille

24. Saelt-Marae

25. Bartender Astromech Droid

Included the species names for the guards since they tend to blend together. If I had to guess what Lego was going to do, they’d probably take out a couple of Skiff Guards like Pote Snitkin and one of the Weequays or Klatooinians and add a couple Gamorreans and/or Jawas. And maybe they include Yoxgit or one of the Human guards.

I’d love to get an Ishi Tib, Geezum, or Mosep Binneed, but I don’t think that’s very realistic.

Well there are a bunch of characters related to Jabba that coulde be made and most of them do not have lego molds:

Who's Who in Jabba's Palace | Wookieepedia | Fandom

Nikto, Weequays, Klatoonians in my opinions should have molded heads as well, they have to many things going on in their faces and on their heads to make normal head credible, but unfortunately lego wanted to save some money.

Unfortunately its more likely that we will get the same amount of figures as the sand crawler, so around 14, if we are lucky. For my sake the more new, unused characters the better, but I know from experience that at least around half of them will be some old regulars.

If I remember correctly, we got three new molds with the Cantina - Garindan, Ponda Baba, and Labria.  Ponda Baba was mandatory for that set, Garindan was a highly requested character for a while, and fit in really well with the other building that were included, and Labria, while less well known than the other two, was probably one of the most logical background characters to get from the scene.  Assuming we get a Sail Barge, and assuming it's MBS style, I think your list pretty well proves that you can make a list of 20+ figures before you get to any that require a new mold.  I agree that Saelt-Marae and J'Quille would be most logical, but other than that, I don't really think a new mold is necessary.

I'd honestly never even heard of any of the other characters you listed (though I did recognize the Ishi Tib species from some of the TV shows), whereas most of the Cantina background aliens each had close up shots in the movie and have had action figures of them for the better part of 40 years.

Anyway, with respect to the set, I'm still a bit confused about how it is supposedly 6,500 pieces, because the image we got looked nowhere close to that, even with an interior.  I would assume if it's MBS style, it would include the Sarlacc and at least one, possibly two, skiffs, but that's probably 500 pieces max.  I mean, the UCS Star Destroyer is only a little over 4,000 pieces, and that thing was massive.  Like, I know it's a preliminary image, but even if it were a prototype, it would have to at least resemble the final product, and it wouldn't make any sense to make it substantially smaller than the final image.  Would you even need 6,500 pieces for a Sail Barge?

We're starting to stray into wish-listing guys.

I mean we’re just speculating on what could be in a rumoured set. It’s not any different than 90% of this thread.

I mean the prototype is really rough, and since they don’t have a finished set, I’m assuming the piece count is just an estimate. So it could have way fewer pieces once the set is perfected and finalized. And who knows, maybe the entire set will be covered in 1x1 tiles?

I agree I’d absolutely love to have a lot of the Jabba’s Palace figures, but I don’t think they’d be cutting into that pool when they already have more than enough figs that appear in the scene they’re basing the set on.

I definitely think Nikto and Weequays should not have moulded heads. Because they’re barely different from humans, and if you have small moulded heads for every character with a slightly different chin or forehead then it stops feeling like the figures are in the same style as the human figures are. (You can make a bit more of an argument for Klatooinians because of their head ridges, but I still think their heads are small enough that it’s really unnecessary) And if you make them have moulded heads that means they can’t wear hats or helmets, which causes issue for nearly every character of those species you’d be trying to represent in Lego. Plus a lot of Weequays and Niktos have different looking faces that wouldn’t be well represented by a single mould. (See Hondo vs. Taanti or Neeku vs. Ima-Gun Di)

That’s ominous to hear. Summer 2021 and 2022 were some of the best recent waves for this theme in my opinion, I do hope the design team doesn’t disrupt that momentum completely. I suspect this may have something to do with those smaller sets being gimmick-based.

What’s everyone hoping for this summer? For me, a strong set or two from the Ahsoka series (T-6 Shuttle please), something with Phase 2 Rex, and a system scale set from Jedi: Fallen Order / Survivor would be the top picks. Fingers crossed that the Mandalorian S3 sets are strong ones.

Glad to see the Sail Barge getting the UCS treatment, one of Promobricks’ stories on the usual place seems to indicate it’s definitely coming later in the year, unless I’m misreading it.

What could that possibly mean? All Original Trilogy?

I really hope it’s not a bunch of 18+ sets.

Or maybe we’re finally seeing the return of Sequel Trilogy sets, which I would absolutely adore.

I too would like to see some new sequel sets. but with all the new shows coming out and such, I don't know that room can be made for them on the priorities list.

The X-Mansion set from the leak also has a piece count that seems way higher than what is shown in the leak, so this could be a similar situation. The thing that gives me pause about that though is that the Sail Barge still looks rather complete as is, whereas the Mansion is clearly a very early prototype.

"Controversial" probably means no prequel sets

Regarding piece counts, it's not difficult with modern building techniques to have a high piece count in a small volume, say a bracket or clip stacked with 1x1 plates to bring it up to the height of a brick; 3 pieces instead on 1, rinse and repeat. Ambush on Ferrix for example has quite a high piece count vs "volume of stuff".

Glad the Sail Barge is coming sooner rather than later.

Hopefully the names of the summer wave sets start leaking soon. I'm curious how they will approach the Desert Skiff - included with the Sail Barge or released separately like Luke's Landspeeder was with the Cantina?

I get you, there are of course disadvantages of having molded heads in terms of configuratons and customing as well, but there are some molds that also have close to human heads like the ugnaught and maz kanata, so like you say, especially the Klaatoinians are in the border region. But mostly mr criticism of depicting niktos and weequays is that lego can release them without a headpiece, if they would have made an nice hairpiece instead of printing the hair on the torso it would had been much better, this printing hair is move that really disturbs me.

Definitely won't be a part of the D2C.

I suppose it has been pretty long since we got a Desert Skiff tho, huh?

I think it's a very likely option for an August set.

Same pattern with the UCS AT-AT and separate Hoth AT-ST. I’m pretty certain a Skiff will be an additional set then people can decide if they want one or two.

It would make minifig choice interesting though. If people wanted two skiffs would they really want more duplicates of the common minifigs? Although I don’t predict many complaints about there being more Boba Fett figs out there.

That would definitely be controversial. Personally, I would really be disappointed if that were the case. We need some balance!

Meh. Sure, there hasn’t been a TPM version since 2015, but it still feels unnecessary. Hope it includes some cool minifigs at least :shrug_oh_well:

Two N-1s in the span of about a year? Interesting, my guess would be 75362 ($70 September) since that is the only leaked set number that has about the right price, but of course 75361 could still be its own set. I would also guess the sail barge is the $200 September UCS, but that's just based on the leaked model not looking too impressive.

Looking at the Official 2023 News thread, 75361 wasn’t assigned a price / piece count yet right? It was one of the ‘gap’ set numbers up until now.

Meh indeed. But hey, Mando’s N-1 was far too large and clunky. If we can get another N-1 that’s smaller and more aerodynamic, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing I suppose.

Does seem like a waste of a slot though.

@ForgedInLego It’s explicitly stated to be 75361, not 362. I suspect the September sets are tie-ins for Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. Although, Ambush on Ferrix was rumoured as a September release last year before it was revealed to accompany the rest of the August wave, so you never know.
